Here's a new improved version. Also changed Link's tunic color from green to blue. and gave him some magic. icon_smile.gif
Is it an improvement?

It's better, but the river is a little too straight. Fix that a little.
Could you check out and critique mine too, please? icon_frown.gif

Found them, and I'm impressed. Way better then anything I could ever make, that's for sure.
Since you're using a high end tileset, have you thought about adding shadows so it looks like there's an angle of light.

Here are some screens I've made in the BS set. I have a partial 8x8 overworld here, and I'm not quiet sure what to do with it.

Just a heads up, any comments pointing out cliff errors will be disregarded. I may make some minor case by case tile edits, but for now, it is what it is.

EDIT: Oh, and it is worth mentioning that the last two shots aren't technically finished. I just wanted to have the cliff lay out done. In theory, these will have a snow palette, and have snow on the ground instead of those brown stones.

Bish: that grass on the lizalfos screen could mess with the rest buy fading into the trees or something. blockiness can be avoided in a classic style by utilizing edited copies of other tiles. some variation goes a long way. the feel is close to immersing and I think some grass variation and softened edging will do it. loving the concepts!

Jared: improved, for sure! I like them.

Anthus: the cliff errors almost make a style that suggest varied gradients of slope. almost. if it is maintained and even featured, somehow, it may fully work. they are fabulous screens. quite pretty.

Those shots are missing something... Life, they look so dead. Perhaps if you added some monsters and link to the screens it would be better. I don't know.

Thank you!
I'm not too sure on shadows, yet. But I was keeping it in consideration, and still am!

I like them. But, as you mentioned, the cliffs are off.
I really love the sky shots, though. Amazing work.

Another thing, I never thought the GB trees fit in correctly. Maybe look for alternatives?

I like the palette, it's very nice. I'd change up the river to a more narrow version and make it a little more curvy, though. That's my only complaint. Very solid!

Better, but it's still too straight.
It's too symmetrical, and that's the overall problem.

It's not that hard...-__(\
Put land sticking into the river. I can't believe you don't know how to do that.

Oh that's what you mean. icon_razz.gif
Sorry, my brain was on stupid mode.

Just tried what you suggested and it turn out awful. It must be because of the width of the river. It's just not wide for something like that I guess. icon_cry.gif

It looks fine, after all, it's only the classic tileset.

I agree. Were it any other tileset, it would look weird, but you're using the Classic tileset so I, personally, think it works.

I disagree completely. Honestly, because of the graphics being used, I expect better design from a Classic screen than from a regular DOR or Pure screen. That's the only way the Classic set keeps me interested, if the design is superb rather than just plain ol' Classic.
