Bets on #666 being a devil-like Pokemon as a joke?

And I bet it's name is Christoper Robin. Er, but seriously though. I can imagine #666 being a devil-like Pokemon as a joke.

Still gotta remember all those people who might find it offensive. (Not including me, but still)

To be honest, they shouldn't play if they're going to interpret a joke as the end of the world.

They probably wouldn't expect a Devil joke in a childrens game, just saying.

Considering how many children's games have worse jokes hidden in them... that would make them pretty naive then. icon_razz.gif

I had friend's who weren't allowed to watch Pokemon with me because it was "demonic". Making #666 a demon, even as a joke, would backfire in their faces quicker than you'd think possible. It'd be a PR disaster.

That's what I'm getting at. There's already people who think Pokemon is demonic, and making such a Pokemon would make it worse.

In Mario (I forgot which), there was a secret line "Peach's XXX" and in Zelda OoT, Ganondorf spewed blood and there was blood on the floor near trap devices in the Bottom of the Well and Shadow Temple. Both are pretty much children's games but I see no one offended (they still removed it in spite of that).

EDIT: Sorry to go off topic, just pointing out there are things in a children's game and I don't see one child complaining (unless I'm not looking hard enough). Also, Zelda has a ton of demonic enemies (SS Bokoblins are reference to Onis so I heard).

Super Mario RPG, but in Japan, "XXX" is the same thing as our "???," so it's nothing to really get worked up about. It was "???" in the English version anyway.

Eh, we'll see what happens. We never know what Japan might be up to, but it almost seems like that would be something they'd do as a joke. Maybe. Or maybe it'll be an angel. >.>

You're missing the point. it's not that "Oh no dark thing in a kid's game." It's that some people believe Pokemon is demonic. As in Satanic. As in literally connected to the Devil. I was reprimanded for wearing a Pokemon hat to youth group on Hat Night when I was young, being lectured about how I dare I bring something demonic into a Church blah blah blah. It has nothing to do with child-inappropriateness; it has everything to do with idiots who don't know a thing about the series. The fire's already there. Making #666 a demon would be like throwing gasoline onto the fire.

Well, I don't really care about #666 being the devil or not. It'd be interesting to see what they come up with, but I have other concerns about Pokemon.

Well you know, there's already a Dark Type, so, it's not like they have to do much more extra work other than come up with a new imp-like Pokemon that has that type for 666. And there ya go.

I feel bad for kids nowadays. When I was a kid into Pokemans I only had 150 to learn about. Heck, I can probably still recite all 150 of their names and a somewhat accurate list of their abilities.

It's kinda sad to me that the Pokemon franchise seems to invest all it's time and creative force into the main games which haven't really significantly changed. Sure they've added things like Day/Night, team battles, so on and so forth, but the core structure is exactly the same. Unlike Final Fantasy which completely reinvented itself with a loose union of gameplay, Pokemon is completely ok with churning out the same game over and over again.

Then again I'm no longer the target market for this and likely won't ever give them money ever again.
