The asteroid belt is NOT thick with asteroids. It is not an actual physical object. It is just a region of distance from the sun where most asteroids are found.

You know, I didn't even know that. Thank you for the info.

Wow I didn't know that either. But why would they call it the Asteroid Belt then?

Because most of the asteroids in the Solar System orbit the sun in that path. It sounds better than "The Asteroid Orbital Path". icon_biggrin.gif

Here's an idea.

Siguy, since there is such a big interest in astronomy and science, why don't we start a thread devoted to such. Much like the weekly PureZC vocabulary threads.

As it seems that this discussion has turned toward astronomy and the science behind it.

I've started it here. Check it out.

You may continue to discuss Nibiru in here, but take the astronomy discussion to the thread I just created.
No need to go off topic, eh.

Wow. Thanks for starting that topic.

My only concern is that some of your quotes could be a bit misleading. Many of them aren't so well explained, and a lot of them are from Wikipedia. Wikipedia can provide some very useful information, and has quality control guidelines. Unfortunately, the guidelines aren't so well enforced and thus there is a lot of poor writing and unreferenced pages that slip through.

Feel free to adjust any of them correctly. I am aware that wikipedia can be brutal, but still it gives some kind of explanation.

You can also ask me to explain most things related to astronomy. I am happy to share my knowledge.

Wow, this is an old topic. I was reading through it (Someone was reading it on the online list. I'm such an online list stalker. icon_razz.gif ) and considering how 2012 is approaching in a little over half a year, I figured I'd post in it. I also didn't see any mention of the Sitching Is Wrong website. Pretty decent information.

Also, just for fun, here's something Chris White put together. His videos usually involve the Bible in some way, shape, or form, but his video on the 2012 subject isn't too shabby. It covers the Galactic Alignment and its insignificance, the Vertical and planar galactic plane alignment, Nibiru, (Around 5:20 in.) pole shift, etc. Lots of good stuff. Again, do feel free to research anything you see. There are as many videos of people who know what the hell they're talking about debunking this stuff as there are people declaring it to be true and scary. (Or beautiful.)

Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence, as it's said.

This is a link to something that say that "Planet-X" is completely made up. I'm not sure how creditable the source is, though.

December 20th - December 21st, 2012, I will pull a massive all-nighter just to laugh at the poor bastards who think there's going to be a problem.

As for the subject of Nibiru, we could discover planets back in the days of Jesus himself (and even before that!), even without today's complicated telescopes and astronomy equipment. If we haven't detected an incoming planet with today's sophisticated technology, I'm fairly certain we won't be having an unwelcome visitor smashing into Earth any time soon.

The thing that I really don't like, is that when someone says "____ translates to ____" they don't post their source. When someone says "They believe Tiamat cut open Marduk" or whatever, ... source? Everything needs a source.

Why? If we do our own research, what happens if our findings are entirely different? Does that mean we're wrong? Does that mean they're wrong? Does that mean everyone doesn't know what the hell they're talking about? It's really annoying to not know who is making stuff up or getting stuff wrong just because they force people to take information for granted merely by telling a compelling story.

Honestly. Nobody can post a source these days on things they want other people to believe! *flustered*

I've actually heard plenty of pro-2012 people saying that, "no, it won't happen overnight, nor during the day. It's a gradual change." Whether it's to cover their own butts or not, it doesn't matter. Anything that actually will happen, if it will, will be an undertaking outside the realm of modern conventional science. It'll have to be. Science knows what it knows, and it knows it well enough to discuss anything physical that could happen.

If anything, the day I'll be watching will be May 21st of this year, but that's neither here nor there. icon_razz.gif

Aye. Even a fervent believer would have a hard time dismissing this. You can only claim "Oh, it's hiding behind the sun" for so long. Eventually: Blame Romulans.

It's always the damn Romulans. icon_disgust.gif

It's not coming. It would've been all over the news, just like that asteroid that's supposed to pass by us in a few years.
I don't think it's a coincidence that most of the sites Nibiru brings up in a search are conspiracy theory sites. That alone should take its credibility down a few notches.

I would like to make one observation here:
Assuming that the laws of physics don't apply and there is a singular planet on a wildly eccentric orbit about to hit us, it doesn't matter if NASA gives us any advance warning. There's nothing we can do to stop it or turn it because it's a hell of a lot bigger than an asteroid. There is no way to evacuate, and no place to go even if we could evacuate Earth.

21st of December 2012? Correct me if I'm wrong but that date was altered a bit the 23rd of December 2012 was the date.

EDIT: I kind of cutted out most of the off-topic-ish parts. Also I live in Australia I didn't see anything unusual with the sun. So yeah.
