Considering they were bragging about making a huge, seamless world... I mean, you can mask loading by having things load while you're moving around. Wind Waker, for example, certainly loaded each area as you were going to it, with a lower-res map being what you see into the distance until it loads in.

I'm not sure if this was mentioned in this thread yet (it probably was) but Link's appearance in BotW really reminds me a lot of this.

I got this random idea to look up every single main Zelda game's final release trailer if applicable, or the commercial for it. Quite interesting really; the evolution of video game marketing.

The Legend of Zelda US TV Ad:

https://www.youtube....h?v=uI3rO3PbYOo

WOAH! CHECK OUT THOSE GRAPHICS!

Zelda II: The Adventure of Link US TV Ad:

https://www.youtube....h?v=teB2xkUw3bI

So, Link is basically He-Man?

A Link to the Past US TV Ad:

https://www.youtube....h?v=gtHPQqb2ols

Shows absolutely zero gameplay footage, and this game was hugely successful. Wow. And Link is still He-Man.

Ocarina of Time Release Trailer:

https://www.youtube....h?v=rzhw_jxWJoU

"Will thou suck?". What does that even mean? There's also a lot of subtle differences between this and the final game, mostly graphical.

Majora's Mask Release Trailer:

https://www.youtube....h?v=NvMls1vK1OU

I remember seeing this. This one is pretty unique. And dark.

Wind Waker Release Trailer:

https://www.youtube....h?v=RxMos9muPYQ

Hm, same song as the OoT trailer. AFAIK, this is the last trailer for the game, and they didn't give a title. Some in-game elements are different (Hud, crouch on R, etc)

Twilight Princess Release Trailer:

https://www.youtube....h?v=KqUqxVKd5q0

This is just the video that plays after staying on the title screen a while in the GCN version. Still awesome nonetheless. I wonder why they completely scrubbed it from the HD remake? Maybe cause it is a recorded video, and not in-engine, so up-scaling it was not gonna be easy without completely re-making it? A similar change was made to the GCN version of OoT's ending sequence, as revealed by this guy.

Skyward Sword Release Trailer:

https://www.youtube....h?v=8Zm1tLH1Oks

Man... Just... maaaaan, why couldn't the game been as fun and awesome as it looks here? Uhhhghghg come on Nintendo, we know you're gonna HD it up, and hopefully remove the motion controls.

Breath of the Wild Release Trailer:

https://www.youtube....h?v=5i_PS4udN9U

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH. With that out of the way, I need it. Best trailer so far. Best trailer music so far.

Yeah, that's definitely been noticed. No way it wasn't intentional I think. It's a tale about the origins of Wind Waker Link's pajamas.

(for the record, no I firmly do not believe this game will have anything to do with the adult timeline sort of weird timeline merger shenanigans)

That climbing at the beginning is absolutely reminiscent of this artwork, although it might be a stretch to call the artwork a reference. Also, nice to see they put the Master Sword in the completely wrong spot.

Ocarina of Time Release Trailer:

Heh, the "Willst thou soar? Or willst thou suck?" was once quite different. "Willst thou get the girl? Or willst thou play like one?" was the original text. It caught enough ire that the commercial was changed.

Hm, same song as the OoT trailer.

That music's apparently from Conan the Barbarian. It was also used in Twilight Princess's first ever trailer. It's so unfitting for Wind Waker.

Skyward Sword Release Trailer:

They won't remove the motion controls. If anything, the Joy-Cons are essentially the same or similar technology to the Wii Motion Plus. A Skyward Sword HD with the same controls seems inevitable, but there's other, more important things I'd rather they change first over controls that quite honestly worked, just were aggravating for certain tasks.

Also yes, that Breath of the Wild trailer just destroys all of these. It's seriously one of the best trailers I've seen for... anything, really.

That's just using LOD's.  Games have been doing that for over a decade now.

I know they have, was just using an example. Didn't know there was an actual term for it though.

That's a lengthy load, but I wonder if it'll be improved by the time the game releases, or if it's basically loading everything, reducing load times for, say, warping. In which case, that'd be very impressive.

I suspect it will preload commonly accessed data in to RAM when the game is launched, then it will load additional/less common data as it is required. Thus you get a long load time when launching the game and quick load times during gameplay. It's a pretty common practice (especially with the shift towards 64bit game engines).

I mentioned the new Switch commercials in the Switch thread, but I'll post the shorter one here as it only focuses on Zelda, and drops a few new tidbits:

That big guy's the Hinox, eh? Sure looks different.

Yes. I just couldn't really get into it. I wasn't a big fan of the control scheme at all, nor the inability to pause safely unless I was absolutely certain I was in a safe zone. I get it was kind of the point, but I value being able to pause the game any time I want.

Dark Souls is primarily an online game. You can't pause online games. :P

I'd sooner call it primarily a single-player game with optional online content, especially since I'm a guy who doesn't have Xbox Live and his 360 doesn't even have an internet connection. So.

Lots of open world games does this. You don't get loading while travelling unless you're completing entering a new area that's not included in the main map or whatever.

But as soon as you're connected to the internet. I believe many of the online features are automatic. It's not like there's a "single player" mode. The online aspect is literally built right into the campaign. Getting invaded is not "optional" when your console is online. :P

The point I'm making though is if all it's online features are built into the main campaign, are you surprised that pausing isn't an option?

I suppose not. Doesn't mean I have to care for that feature. :P

Right, invasions... mark those up to another reason I'm not that fond of Dark Souls.

As for Hinox. It looks like they made him similar to a Moblin type species, and appear strangely similar to Skyward Sword's Moblins. Probably a hint that Moblins will be similar to their look in Wind Waker, Four Swords, and ALBW. Big and tough but not incredibly big.

Yeah I noticed that as well, which is why I was surprised when they actually said it was a Hinox. Gotta admit, I'm not sure I'm a fan of everything turning into some sort of Bokoblin family member, and I've voiced this in the past (why do we have Stal Bokoblins instead of just Stalfos/Stalchildren?), but at least we get that classic enemy back.

The moblin nose is mainly the only glaring change.

I'll be honest, the way that eyeball fold works, it almost looks like it does have two regular eyes, they're just slammed shut in favor of the big eye up there.
