I think that the detail in the edited screen is better. Maybe remove one flower or two and thats it. The water detail is better too.

I do too, honestly, but maybe I did go a tad bit overboard in details.

And I also do not understand how my screen is mediocre, perhaps it's because you don't like this tileset?

Mediocre does not mean outright horrible icon_razz.gif

It's just not a very nice screen in terms of design. It just looks uninspired and boring, and there really isn't much tips I can give you other than 'be inspired'. Try to be a little creative with the tiles, play around with them. For example, have a little 'arm' of sand sticking out on the beach, which causes it to look a little more exotic. Now, it's not exactly realistic, but real-world nature often looks really boring in a 2D game, especially top-down.

It's not that your screen is outright bad though, but I would hesitate to call it a good screen as well (no offense intended, I'm sure you understand). I'm talking in terms of pure looks here, not anything else. Look at it this way; going through the screen the player will think 'just another screen', and while some people might argue that not all screens needs to have that 'something special', which is true, all screens do, in my opinion, need to tell the player 'you're playing Yoshidude's quest!' rather than 'this sure is a quest'. If you know what I'm saying.

Maybe I'm being overly critical, but that's me in a nutshell, and you did ask me to elaborate icon_razz.gif

Those trees are arranged quite unnaturally. Break up that perfect rectangle.

That does look better. As for the trees, what Giggidy said, unless they are arranged like that for a reason, such as a hint to something hidden.

That looks very nice Sephiroth! By the way, you use the dor mountains better than i did, I always had a problem with them. Nice job! icon_smile.gif
Here's a screen I just recently cooked up with my new AoD tileset that I've been working on these past few weeks. It's a Minish Cap - Pure Hybrid.

I mean it IS a transition screen, nothing majorly important on it, but DAMN you can make transition screens look good!

I do believe this is the first time I've ever liked a screen with MC trees. Really digging the palette.

The tileset isn't done, but so far it's coming along great. I'm really loving the feedback so far! Hmm, would any of you be interested in me releasing this tileset for use by the zc community when it's done? I may do so seeing as you guys seem to like it. icon_smile.gif

Actually, ZebraStallion mixed Pure and MC for his Pearl Of Shadows before it was cool.

But yeah, nice screens here. Nothing much to say about them that hasen't been said yet here or in IRC though.
Edit: One thing. Sepulcher, I think it would look better if the path was winding and less straight. Looks half-assed sort of.

Yeah, ZebraStallion beat me to that, but yeah. I'm gonna go all out with this tileset to make it as functional as possible so I can start building my game and have no problems. I even ripped, recolored, and created a custom palette for the tiles from the temple of droplets in MC. It looks grrrreat! icon_lol.gif
