I beat the elite the other day, and now I'm running through it again because I can't find a way to get back to Pallet Town or Pewter City in Kanto. I've beaten all the gym leaders over there that I can, but as far as getting back over there... we got road blocks all over the place. So I'm stuck.

My Meganium is at Level 60 and has an Attack of 122 and a Special Attack of 110. Is that too weak?

Dunno... I have a level 51 Typhlosion with 103 attack but 121 special attack. So in terms of sp. atk it's kinda low, but that all depends on the nature.

You fixed the Power Plant right? Talk to a guy in the Kanto Radio Tower (Lavender Town) so that you can listen to radio stations in Kanto; this enables you to listen to the Pokeflute station that will wake up the Snorlax in front of Diglett's Cave.

Why does everybody say this? Am I the only one that thinks the new soundtrack—some bad tracks, mostly enjoyable tracks, and only two tracks better than the original (Violet City and Viridian/Pewter/Saffron City)—pales in comparison to the 8-bit tracks?

Is it because I played and beat the originals when they first came out? icon_frown.gif

Nah, I agree with you on that. I don't care for quite a few of the new ones. Goldenrod City drives me nuts; it has to be in the original GB if I'm in that place. >_>

I randomly caught a Lonely Magikarp with maxed Attack IV's, bred a Jolly Trapinch with max HP and 30 Attack/Sp. Attack, and bred a Rash Infernape with 30 Attack and 29 Sp.Attack. Wasn't even trying for IV's, and these guys are awesome. icon_biggrin.gif

Yeah, well...IDKUSUCK. icon_frown.gif

Not really. *jealousmuch*

Well, Meganium IS meant for Defense and Sp. Defense, right? So low Attack/Sp. Attack isn't much of a surprise. Though if it's not at least 200 by the time it's level 100, it must have low IVs or something...

Don't worry; that drove me nuts, too. I knew what to do, I just hated doing it, because I had to catch the Snorlax, and sometimes it took me a while. And all I wanted anyways was to get to Route 2/Viridian Forest and catch a Pikachu, so I could breed it and get my Pichu. icon_deformed.gif

Speaking of the Elite Four, my sister managed to beat them yesterday with her team at level 50. She had been complaining about how long it took to get her Pokémon up that high, but also said that the Elite Four was kinda hard at some points. So I asked her if she was glad she took the time to get to level 50. Her response? "... yes..." I loved it. icon_deformed.gif

She's actually got a real solid team, maybe even better than mine. She has a Feraligatr, Typhlosion, Steelix, Noctowl, Raichu, and Bellossom. icon_eek.gif

Of course, she wouldn't have the Typhlosion, Raichu, or Steelix without my help -- gave her a Cyndaquil and Pichu, then sacrificed my Metal Coat for her sake (she'll give me hers when I want to evolve Scyther) -- so she owes me some credit. icon_blah.gif

Oh, man, I know! Goldenrod and Ecruteak City = totally ruined. icon_sweat.gif

If there was a high point, though, it's that they brought back Cerulean's theme from R/B/Y, only remixed, and it sounded pretty good. The theme that they used in nearly every Kanto city in G/S/C got on my last nerve.

IV stands for Individual Values. Each Pokemon has unique values that are assigned either at birth (for hatched Pokemon) or when encountered in battle* (for wild Pokemon). Each stat that the Pokemon has is assigned a random number between 0 and 31 (it's a bit more complicated for bred Pokemon but for all intents and purposes its random). Each IV point in a stat corresponds to 1 extra point at level 100, so a Pokemon with a 0 HP IV might have 300 HP while a Pokemon with a 31 HP IV will have 331. If you have a stat reducing or boosting nature these points will be worth more or less depending. In HG/SS only, equipping a parent Pokemon with a "Power" item (Power Weight, Power Bracer, etc.) will cause the IV in the stat associated with the Power item to be passed on, making it easy (if long) to achieve very good stats if you have a good IV base.

They can't ever change and are hidden unless you track the EV's (effort values) that you train for the Pokemon and use online IV calculators; it's sort of a tedious process and you can't really calculate the IV's of something that you haven't deliberately trained.

*This is important for roaming legendaries, as its IV's and nature are assigned the first time you see it and will never change afterwards. No matter how many times you save/reset, Raikou's stats will never change if you've seen him before the capture attempt.

Christian: You can't IV train Pokemon, as those values can't change. However, you can EV train Pokemon. EV stands for Effort Value and is an entirely different beast. Using EV's can potentially raise a stat by as much as 63 points at level 100, so are in some ways more important; however you can only gain a maximum of 127 points for all stats, meaning that they are more limited than IV's, which can be maxed for all stats.

I caught Snorlax with the first ball I threw. Heavy balls work miracles on him. icon_razz.gif

Well, I never heard the original (but I will when I get the GB player), but I like the new ones. Goldenrod has a nice, uplifting beat, while Ecruteak really has that old Japanese feel to it.

My Meganium has Jolly Nature so I'm guessing having that nature boosts ATK a notch doesn't it?

My Proposed Moveset:
* Body Slam
* Seed Bomb
* Swords Dance
* Earthquake

They're way different than the originals. The new Goldenrod's tempo is off; the old one is a bit more relaxed and much more enjoyable. Ecruteak's intro is just so far removed from its original version that I don't even call it Ecruteak's theme anymore.

I played, beat, and was literally obsessed with gold and silver back in my childhood. The remastered versions of the games are way better due to the instruments that are now available due to technology. The battle tracks really sets the mood to kick some trainer/wild Pokemon/ gym leader/ elite four a**. The city and routes all fit perfectly. They gave the games a traditional Japanese feel. Something that was not possible to do with chip sounds. Ecruteak city was meant to be a Japanese town in the first place which is why the music sounds like that.

The instruments are really really catchy in the remastered versions.

EDIT: Does anyone know how to catch Hoenn and Sinnoh Pokemon?

There are multiple ways to catch them. On Wednesday, Hoenn sound plays on the radio, and on Thursday, Sinnoh sound plays. Tune into those stations to attracts wild Pokemon from that region to you (I think each route has one wild Pokemon from each of the two regions in it). If you go to the Safari Zone, you'll know be able to customize the areas further with blocks, some of which will instantly attract new Pokemon, and some of each will attract them after a certain amount of time (for example, Riolu appears 70 days after a certain block is placed). In addition, each day, if you tune into Mary and Oak's radio program, Mary will announce the day's swarm. Once you beat the Elite Four and use the Pokewalker enough, it will give you certain routes like Hoenn field or Mt. Coronet, where you can catch Hoenn and Sinnoh Pokemon. Lastly, I think the Super Rod can be used to catch certain Hoenn and Sinnoh fish, but I'm not 100% sure of that one.

Eh, you may feel that way, but I'm just the opposite. Updated doesn't always mean better. Simply because of the great range of possibility nowadays, old tunes struck me greater because of the limitations; when you could perform such awesome with such limits, then it's epic. Now... Now it's not that easy.

I think that's only during swarms. But you forgot one another method: Headbutting trees. I found Wurmple headbutting trees in Pewter City while looking for a Pineco -- and on a side note, if you get a Pineco and evolve it into Forretress, you can trade it to Steven Stone for a Beldum. Taillow are supposed to show up in trees in Cherrygrove City, but I've never found one.

And no, Russ, I don't think each Pokémon is limited to certain routes. Check the 'dex, look up a Hoenn/Sinnoh Pokémon, and search its area. Unless it's in a city -- which means you'll have to headbutt to find it -- it'll tell you where to find one, as long as you're playing either Hoenn/Sinnoh Sound.

There's a list on Bulbapedia (and probably one on Serebii, too) of which ones you can find and where. I'd link it, but can't on Wii. icon_frown.gif

In Cherrygrove? Try looking for a rock climb spot. Most of the foreign Pokemon you find in trees are either in Kanto. The ones in Johto need rock climb to be reach, to make sure you've been to Kanto.

QUOTE

Oh. Well, it did in Platinum, so I assumed it would here as well.

QUOTE

Sorry, what I meant to say is each route has one Hoenn Pokemon and one Sinnoh Pokemon. They're not necessarily exclusive to that route, but each route has one of each.
