Cukeman's above post
Yaaas! I hope so. It could also just be a Fall themed spot too. But, given how off-the-rails from the Zelda norm this game is looking, I wouldn't be surprised if we had time travel, and changing seasons.

I don't normally get too deep into fan theories, but this one actually sounds like it could be onto something. It's not crazy, and it's not "Link is dead in this game" so that's a good start.
It's a little long, but the first half is the more interesting stuff.

So there's a rumor about this game now stating that it's cancelled for the Wii U.

"Hey guys, awesome new Zelda coming for the Wii U!"
"Hey guys, I know the Wii U's not doing great, but Breath of the Wild will be awesome, trust us, it's worth buying a Wii U!"
"Hey guys, it's coming out on the Switch too, but we promise your Wii U investment wasn't a waste, you can still play it."
"Hey guys, screw you all, it's not actually coming out on the Wii U."
If the rumor turns out to be true, I'm probably going to be refraining from purchasing Nintendo stuff in the future. A string of bad marketing decisions is one thing. Conning your fanbase into buying a failing console and then not giving them the one thing you've been promising them for years is quite another. I'm hoping the rumor turns out to be false, cuz I'd like to think Nintendo's not that awful to their fans. And yet it doesn't exactly sound like something they're above at this point...

I guess the wait for this game is "Nintendo hard". If this is true, this would also make the Wii U the only Nintendo console in history to not have an original Zelda, barring the Hyrule Warriors cross-over. As much as it would be a kick in the dick for them to not release it on the WiiU, a small part of me can't help but think it might be better that way. I would rather have the most revolutionary Zelda I can get, then have a company say "well, we wanted to do this, but since it has to also run on this 5-year-old system, we can't, soo.."

If I wasn't already planning to get the Switch, I'd be really upset right now.
I sincerely hope this is just because the game will be too big and the graphics too glorious for the Wii U to handle. *Crosses fingers*
Too bad about the Wii U (potentially) not having its own main series Zelda game.

Rumor is undoubtedly false, or they wouldn't have shown it off this month at The Game Awards. The game's basically done by this point I have to imagine, and the final efforts are just porting it to Switch and bugtesting and localizing both versions. Probably just some stupid rumor riding the coattails of the announcement of the cancellation of Yooka-Laylee's Wii U version.

I hope that's the case. I plan on getting the Switch either way, but I did plan on buying the Wii U version too. Which brings me to why I think this is a false rumor. Releasing it on two systems means more sales. Making money + not shitting on Wii U owners (hopefully) = smart business move.Rumor is undoubtedly false, or they wouldn't have shown it off this month at The Game Awards. I would also like to reiterate that it's unlike Nintendo to have a console without an original Zelda. It would be a bad first for the series, and company, imo, and should be one they're not willing to consider.

^This. They aren't on Niantic levels of stupid. Cancelling it on the Wii U would kill the sales for the Switch and any trust fans had in them with any future game. Nintendo knows they can't botch this which is probably why it is taking an eternity to come out.
I do find it most likely the Wii U version will be released later than the Switch version though (like with Twilight Princess.)
(I probably won't be getting the Switch either. Don't have the $ and most new games just don't interest me.)

Also let's not forget that the game was first developed on the Wii U to begin with. A cancellation would just be silly. ![]()

If they're worried about losing money by releasing it on the Wii U, it'd make more sense for them to release it on the eshop rather than press Wii U discs. I think it's more likely the rumor is baseless.

One thing is like, sure, as examples Yooka-Laylee's Wii U version got canned, and Stardew Valley is going to Switch instead... but those are 3rd parties. Developing on the Wii U is a lot harder for them, but also, Nintendo knows their own hardware really, really well. Almost like they made it themselves! And they do a damn good job working on it. There was no way in hell it was getting canceled, I mean even without the whole, "They played it on the Wii U for us a week and a half ago," argument, the rumor was just completely unfounded.
(Also can I maybe just say I'm a teensy bit annoyed that a few pages ago I was being lambasted for daring to speak about a rumor from a source who has a really good track record for being right... and then on this page someone just says "Oh I heard the wii u version is being canceled" without any sources or links, and definitely isn't someone who has connections behind the scenes, and people just... believe it? Funny how that works.)

Because Emily is like a Fortune Teller: they may be right quite a bunch of times, but most of them are quite simple and if they get something wrong, "Oh the sources were really blurry there". I can say for a fact that there are going to be at least 4 dungeons in BOTW. Am I a confirmed leaker whose uncle works at Nintendo yet?
Although I do agree on that other part; people bought it a bit too easily. Then again, this rumor was a bit more believable: Cancelling the version of a game that's on a dead system to save a cheap buck and force people to buy a Switch is in Nintendo's "screwing over fans for money" track record, where as delaying the game altogether, losing it as a launch title, would lose them money regardless.
