It's weird that whenever you get a gym badge, in the case, the pictures of the gym leaders are still gray. icon_xd.gif I'd expect them to light up whenever you get their badge...
You can rub the badges to get them shiny, and as the badges are cleaner, the gym leader's faces will get clearer as well. icon_wink.gif

Hah, mine too! Tossed an infected into the box for safekeeping.

@ Russ
You beat the E4 with that team?! Count me impressed! I didn't take nearly as much risk-- my goal for the game is to get through without 'whiting out' (and also not resetting if the situation looks grim). And, so far, so good. I've beaten the game once, but my goal continues until I beat the Elite Four a second time. I pre-grinded for the Elite Four battle all my Pokes to level 50, just to be safe. It wasn't too hard, though the final boss wiped out half of my team with one Pokemon (I think we all know what it was). I honestly had the most trouble with the Dragon-type gym-- how you, literally, have to fight through all 10 or so of the trainers in there before you get a break to hit the Pokemon Center again. I ran out of Revives in the end, but survived the trial. It would'a helped if I had something good against dragons, but my Reuniclus pulled me through, while Galvantula supported with speedy Thunder Waves. (The rest of my team was Emboar, Carracosta, Zoroark, and Lilligant. Man, I love Lilligants.)

I make it a habit of beating the Elite Four with low level teams. I've never had anything higher than 50 (and never higher than 45 except in the case of Platinum), and my lowest was in Hg/Ss, where I averaged level 34 for my team. It's all about strategy. Covering the bases with all the types, having the right items, the right balance of speed, offense, and defense, and knowing when you use what items for maximum effectiveness. It makes the game a whole lot more fun.

Ugh, I hated that about it. I considered just suiciding to get sent back to the Pokemon Center instead of wasting all my items at one point.

So when I looked on Serebii, it showed you could catch special Pokemon on special surfing and fishing spots, as opposed to just normally surfing and fishing. Anybody know how to find those spots?

These spots of water appear as odd wellings. The same principal can applied to the grass, patches that visibly shake often yeld rare Pokemon.

Yeah, it's the same as with grass. Just use a repel and go back and forth until you hear a little "blub" sound. You should be able to find it.

And, I like to use strategy after the main game (not that I don't during; just, to a lesser extent). During the story, I like to use the ones I think are cool-lookin', regardless of how good they are, just for role-play. Some just can't be done (Emolga, for example), but I've found new favorites by doing that (lovely Lilligants or speedy Galvantulas). For all of the 4th generation, I had my whole team figured out before the games were even released, and that was more tedious than fun for me. In the 5th, I just caught them as I went, trying to keep typing as diverse as possible. I didn't check their stats online or anything, but I learned what worked and what didn't, actually discovering things. That's more fun for me. Though, I may have to try your "challenge" for the third installment in the 5th gen (or the Ruby/Sapphire remakes that are bound to happen), since I already know the Pokemon I'll be finding.

I save all my EV training for post-game.

Hey, nobody said I didn't. I refuse to evolve my Dewott, because I love it. I ONLY use Pokemon that I think are awesome; I just make it work with the strategy. icon_razz.gif

I beat the main storyline in Pokémon Black.

My team was:
Reshiram Lv. 51 (swapped Zweilous for it.)
Mienshao Lv. 51
Chandelure Lv. 50
Bisharp Lv. 53
Scolipede Lv. 48
Haxorus Lv. 48
I have to say, if Chandelure's Inferno didn't hit the final boss's strongest Pokémon, I would have been at his mercy.

Well, either way, I'm still majorly impressed (and sorta jealous! X) ). On my first run (in Japanese), I died multiple times, and all my Pokemon were probably 10 levels above yours in the end.

I was this close *holds thumb and index finger in close proximity* to playing the game with a Nuzlocke challenge on, but I decided against it after my starter died during the second or third gym battle. icon_heh.gif

Hey, I never said I didn't die. I just reset every time I did. On average, I'd die the first time I fought the Elite Four while I learned what types their Pokemon were and what they did and what was best to use against them, and then I'd beat them the second time. As for the last part...

Spoiler

If ya want, I got the save file right before the Elite Four, if you wanna look at the team and see how I did it so you can try something like it next time.

That Hydra Pokemon is WAY too overpowered. I guess having 4 weaknesses balances it out.

Oh yeah, I had a hard time with that one too >_<

Anyways, does anyone have a pichu egg they wouldn't mind sending off? Or a Pikachu/Raichu which I can then breed myself, doesn't really matter...

I don't have much to offer in return, other than an egg with Tepig if anyone's interested...

Oooor you could tell me where to find a trainer in-game (Black) that has either a Pichu, Pikachu or a Raichu, seeing as you can't request Pokemon you haven't seen over the GTS. Thanks icon_biggrin.gif

I agree that it was overpowered; My Lv. 49 Samarott was the only one in my party (aside from my Lv. 47 Musharna, which was weak to Dark) that could even stand a single hit against it's Dragon Pulse, with only 10 or so HP left. If it wasn't for Samarott's Dragon Tail, it would have been to first time I had to restart a trainer battle in White.

Eh, I am finding the postgame trainers much eaiser than what I expected. I was expecting to get my butt handed to me by most of them, but I never lost to any of them (that's with the help of items icon_razz.gif). I also unexpectedly run into Cynthia last night, who kindly gave me the option to decline the battle with her.

I actually beat that Hydra Pokemon with Samurott's Revenge atttack. If Samurott receives damage, it would have a base attack of 120, then since he's weak to fighting attacks, it will double to 240.

I think there may be one trainer who has a Pikachu, but I can't remember who (I'm trying to remember my Japanese run, but it was a while ago =P ).

But, I do have a Pichu you can have, either way, if ya want! It's a male, though, so you're gonna need a Ditto to breed with it. He does come with a bonus, though: POKERUS!! He was actually the pokemon I threw into the box in case I needed Pokerus again, but it's alright for me to trade it-- I have more infected hanging around.

Though, if breeding's not your thing, I do have a female Pikachu you can have, too. I really liked it, but I got it from SoulSilver and it's name is in ALL-CAPS, and I really don't want any of my Pokemon to feel like they're being yelled at, so... you can have it, and breed with something to produce a kid with a properly written name.

I'll be free tonight after classes, maybe 7 hours from this post, or a little earlier. I'll be free until midnight (EST), so just let me know when! (or, if not today, the same schedule applies to tomorrow).

So I just beat the second gym. (I'm taking my time. icon_razz.gif) I'm having so much fun with this; last Monday me and three others spent some time trading Pokemon. So now I've got an Oshowatt (I started with Snivy) and I should soon have a Tepig. I also have an Eevee now. :3 And to top it all off, I've got a Ditto for breeding anything either my brother or myself want. :3 (It's level 66, so I can't get very much use out of it) Having Surf prematurely is also pretty fun...until you run into a trainer with Pokemon twice your level when you're not expecting it. XD Though I did manage to slingshot myself from a level 14-15 Pokemon to 20 in one KO. XD

Just beat the sixth gym on my White ROM.

Trainer:
Tchock
'Mons:
Separator (Samurott) - Lv. 37
Idioteque (Zebstrika) - Lv. 38
15 Step (Darmanitan) - Lv. 39
Reckoner (Duosion) - Lv. 38
Amnesiac (Archeops) - Lv. 37

So far I'm very pleased with this team. Archeops and Darmanitan are physical monstrosities (Darmanitan just walks all over Simisear), and Samurott is a great anchor for the team (the water starter is always best). Zebstrika is becoming comparatively less and less strong, but I like its speed so it's got a spot until something better pops up. Duosion is a bit of a challenge; he's got an extremely limited movepool, Shuckle-like speed, and his defensive stats aren't anything to write home about, but his Special Attack is great and he's got high HP. Once he evolves and I can get my hands on some good TM's (Focus Blast, Shadow Ball, Energy Ball, etc.) I think he'll be great, if a little unorthodox. Trick Room's another possibility. Of he ends up being a detriment, I'll bring in a Chandelure instead, since it looks like a much more typical special Pokemon.

Also, why can it learn Thunder but not Thunderbolt?! Argh. Looks like Thunderbolt just won't be getting any love from me this game. icon_frown.gif

My 6th spot is probably going to go to Haxorus, since the thing's about as overpowered as you can get without dipping into the legends. I'm also looking pretty hard at Mienshao, since I love Fighting-types and it looks like a slightly more offensive Lucario. I'll most likely end up getting rid of Zebstrika if it comes down to it.

QUOTE(Russ @ Mar 19 2011, 04:09 PM) View Post

My final team:

Skipper, the level 42 Dewott
Fuego, the level 40 Simisear
Scaler, the level 41 Krookodile
Archy, the level 44 Archeops
Frosty, the level 44 Beartic
Striker, the level 39 Zebstrika
I have no idea how your Pokemon are even that low-leveled. I'm only just past the sixth-gym and have almost hit those, and I haven't even been intentionally grinding, just fighting every trainer.
