I'm posting in the art thread, apparently. Weird. Anyway, over the past few days, I made a new icon of my furry persona, Brennan Dowell. I think it's quite a step up from the last one I did.

Any critique would be greatly appreciated. icon_smile.gif

I think it looks great personally, and it is a step up from before icon_biggrin.gif! The shading looks nice too. But, why aren't his eyes as shiny as before icon_frown.gif?

That's a good question, actually. I guess I just overlooked the eyes while I was shading everything else.

Just drew an update for Cecil, with shading and everything. Like I said on there, I'm probably going to either re-draw it, or spruce it up, because after the scan was saved to a file, most of Cecil's shading was dropped icon_sweat.gif...

A drawing totally inspired by Crash Bandicoot 3. Also, more fun with layers and my VeriThin pencils =D! Opinions wanted!

@BetaLink: Definitely an improvement! icon_smile.gif Nice job! I would suggest making the back of his head go out more, though, so his head doesn't look all out of proportion (his face is curved, but the back of his head is basically flat, minus the feathering).

Also, though this could be more of a preference than anything on my part, I think his beak should be moved up a little bit, so his face doesn't look so long. I can't really explain what I'm trying to tell you here, so I guess you can just ignore this...lol

Nice job!

@Koh: I haven't been commenting on your images because for some reason I can't access DA. If you could post the image location rather than the link to the page, then that would be extremely helpful to me, though it would be considered too much trouble for a little extra advice, by some. Either way. icon_razz.gif

Lol, thanks, and maybe some other time XD!

I was testing something out before doing my art trade. I think it turned out the way I wanted it to. By the way, it looks more vibrant on paper, I don't know why the To File part of the Scan likes eating colors, but it does -.-'...anyway, for comparison, here's the old version:

Please tell me what you think and mention any flaws! Enjoy!

I guess since it's been 12 hours....

Just when you thought Cecil couldn't get any cooler, he goes Ninja on you >= D! Got the guts to face him in combat? Anyway, last experimentation before I do the art trade; I was attempting to see how dark the grays need to be in order to not be eaten when saved to a file. Because seriously, when I scan, it looks fine, but once it goes to a file, a lot of the shading is totally destroyed >.>. Also, my new avatar here =D!

The first picture is the best, but the arms look funny. When you draw him think about how you would look while doing that action. Would your arms be tucked in like his, or would his elbows be placed in a more outward position?

Same goes for the second pic. However, you should also think about changing the right (his left) leg. It is anatomically incorrect, and I'm not sure how to make it correct with the foot still being up like that.

For the third pic, there are two issues that I noticed. a) The left (his right) arm is not wide enough near the hand when compared to the rest of his body (including his other arm). And b), the right (his left) leg should be on top of his body, instead of underneath.

You're definitely getting better, keep it up. icon_thumbsup.gif

Thanks Molty =D. And I just finished my Gift Art:

IPB Image

Gift art for Shadowlink350. I decided to draw Cecil and his character, Joule, together. Looks like they became quick friends =D. By the way, for those of you who don't know, Joule is a boy =). Also, PURPLE IS HARD TO LAYER D=! And after the layering, it became totally impossible to see the lines I made, which made it very difficult to darken them at the end XD! Overall, it took my 3 hours and 37 minutes to complete, but it was still fun to draw =D.

Cecil's body seems to get bigger closer to the ground, his feet are huge! icon_razz.gif Also, the left (his right) foot is on top of the right one. Joule's tail looks like it's coming out half way up is back.

I'm wondering, would Cecil look better with a slightly shorter nose? Try it.

Anyways, it took me a while to find anything wrong with the picture anatomically. So good job. icon_wink.gif

Thanks =D, and now it's time to choose again! Well first of all, I also made his nose shorter in both versions, so you can compare whether he looks better with a shorter or longer nose from the images above. But which hairstyle do you guys prefer for Cecil, the new style, or the current style? Either one works for me icon_wink.gif, but what do you guys think?

I see that you've attempted incorporating shading and values into your artwork. I'd say that your highlights can be lighter and your shadows much darker. Don't be afraid to be bold. Also, if it helps, (even though your drawing wasn't of a human face) try studying your own face under dramatic lighting. See where the light hits certain features and watch how other features can be obscured by shadow.

Also, Koh, while it is nice to post several drawings of the same character to show your own development, I don't think posting picture after picture of the cartoon dog leaves much for us to say, if you are looking for critique. A few can be nice, but give us variety. Don't stick to drawing the same thing over and over, try branching out and trying something different.
