I tried some sound balancing because I've been told I've been quiet the last couple of episodes, so any feedback would be helpful if it's any better. ![]()

The newest episode of ZCast is now up and available at the usual spot at zcast.purezc.net. Sorry about the delay this week, ended up forgetting to render out the episode on Friday. Also, welcome to the new home for it, here in good old 1955 General Discussion. ![]()

Hmm...maybe this podcast should get a little more visibility on the front page?

You should really get on the Breaking Bad train, Justin! Probably my favorite show. Better Call Saul seems promising, as its style is different yet similar to Breaking Bad's (the direction in particular is very reminiscent of Breaking Bad).
And I think I have to disagree with you guys on the matter of a Zelda Maker being restricted to Z1 or Z1+. I don't think Z3-style scrolling would make the editor that much more complex - it'll just be automatic when you specify the room size. I mean, I imagine it would work the same way as the editor for Mario Maker. Maybe you couldn't do EVERYTHING you could do in ALttP, but I could see most of the basics being covered pretty easily, and be much easier to use than Zelda Classic. Though Zelda Classic would still be more powerful in most ways.
I think the biggest restriction would be the lack of text, because I don't see Nintendo allowing custom text to be uploaded. In that case, I would imagine this to be more of a dungeon maker.
There are plenty of other possibilities: Donkey Kong Maker, Kirby Maker, Metroid Maker, Pokemon Maker. Though if any of them come to pass (and I'm not sure they would), I'd guess Zelda.

Update: Oh yes. After reading DCE's post. I realize it has. It has indeed been moved.

Well, it's always good to have someone to discuss Better Call Saul with as it comes out. ![]()
As far as the whole Z3 scrolling thing, I think specifying the room size is what would start making it complex. Every time you add a room, you'd have to specify the room size. It would be a lot of details you'd have to keep up with, and it opens up rooms for things not to work. It would become a lot more complex than Mario Maker, which is why I'm not sure Nintendo would do it. Also, your statement about text is pretty valid too.
I would love a Metroid Maker personally, though!
Also, we're about to go live in a few minutes.
And, personally, I love the thought of discussing topics in here we've covered, so feel free to bring up your thoughts about stuff we discuss here if you want!

I was referred to your podcast last week because you enjoyed Zodiac: The Guardian Story. Good to hear, and I'm glad you liked it! As you probably noticed, the quest is pretty far divorced from what you usually see in Zquest. I'm trying to hold myself to the standard of a GAME, not a QUEST, and that means challenging ZClassic conventions where they do not fit. To give you an idea of what this involves, I'm past 75,000 lines of code in the game script at this point. Some of that is because I'm a bad programmer, and some code has been replaced and is redundant at this point, but generally speaking this is a good measurement of how much customization is involved here.
I got your comments about hit box detection, and I will address them. (What you're noticing is that damage tiles are 16x16, but some sprites only look like they are maybe 10x10 in size).
The game is complete, in the sense that you can go all the way to the end in each demo I upload. What I am doing now is bugtesting to remove errors and re-coding aspects of the game that players complain about. My current project is to replace most of the TLOZ enemies with entirely custom scripted enemies, using my own techniques instead of ghost.zh. On top of that, I have more bosses to remaster and other edits to do. Think of it like a paper that is complete, but now I'm going back an editing. I update the quest file every few days as I add more stuff to the quest.
As part of that process, I'm trying to get as many people as possible playing the demos so that I can get as much feedback as possible. Particularly non-ZC folks, because they will be less forgiving of engine limitations. If you want to get the word out, or simply keep playing it yourself into the late game to offer feedback, all of that is greatly appreciated. I'd be happy to appear on the show if you wanted to talk about what's going on with the Quest and plug it to more folks.
Also note that the quest file is unpassworded and my entire script is in the buffer. Since I started this in 2008, the project has always been completely open and anyone who wants to see how I'm doing things is welcome to check it out.

That might actually be really interesting. I think both Justin and I would be up for that. ![]()
