A few questions as I'd potentially like to get involved.
- Do you have to officially sign up or can anyone just submit a quest by the deadline?
- For new enemies do they have to be built from scratch or can we use enemies already in the system not present in the originals ex. Fire/Wind/Mirror Wizzrobes? If yes, can we edit stats on some enemies so they are more fair? (Mirror wizzrobes way too strong)
- Could I for example make digdogger kids immune to the boomerang to use as a late game boss?
- Would using the mirror shield even be ok?
- Could Keys be made level specific without ruining authenticity?
- Do we have to give the Wooden Sword on the origin screen or can it be something else?
The sign-up at AGN was originally to give members time to finish their quests when the deadline was pushed forward to October 5th. Since that deadline has been restored to November 5th, sign-up at AGN is simply for the purpose of having your submission tested before (and during) the judging by the AGN Quest Player's Club (We discussed this on the other forum, but I believe it is best to say it here as well for the sake of others looking to participate).
New enemies may be built from scratch or they may simply be snatched from those built in to the program. In fact, all that is necessary to meet this requirement is to take three of those enemies (Item Jinxes and Item Cure Jinxes are popular picks). You are free to make any enemy you please with the editor, but may not SCRIPT custom enemies. For example, I created a Lizalfos by making a Walker with a Sword Weapon and setting it to the Vire movement type. This enemy hops back and forth, shooting off a sword every time it lands.
You are also free to adjust the defenses of any enemy you please, though if you do so make sure you convey to the player that the enemy is different (either by using a different palette or possibly by using a different graphic).
EDIT: Actually, you cannot make:
- Enemies that split into bosses
- Enemies that summon bosses
- Enemies that summon summoners
- Enemies that tribble into bosses
Mirror shield and mirror combos are fine... just be careful to avoid infinite magic refractors. If you DO include one of these on your screen, set the enemy secret to remove some mirrors from the floorplan so that the magic disperses after the room is cleared. Also, use your best judgment with the reflect flags you assign to the Mirror Shield; having it reflect weapons like Swords and Arrows makes the item overpowered and may lose you points in the judging.
You may NOT use level-specific keys. There is nothing preventing you from removing keys from the shops, though I recommend leaving them as an option to avoid creating an unbeatable scenario. Whether or not you can use level-specific MAGIC KEYS is another question... those might be okay.
There is precedent to changing the weapon given by Abei in the first screen (one submission I've tested grants the boomerang instead of the wooden sword). It will not make you popular but is technically not against the rules. Giving the player the Magic Book on the first screen, however, is cruel and will be punished!
