Star Trek XI It's a generic (crappy) action film with the Star Trek name and a steampunk version of the Enterprise. Gene Roddenberry is spinning in his grave.

Them's fightin' words. icon_glare.gif

I'd take XI over the abomination of Star Trek Nemesis any day of the week.

Nemesis sucked almost as hard. Data's mentally retarded older brother was bad enough.
What got me was why Shinzon decided to destroy Earth....no reason, really. The Romulans were mean to him.
And every scene was just jammed together in a bunch of quick cuts. It's not a damned kung-fu action movie. >_>

Ooh, that's another one. Star Trek. I get why people like it, but it's not for me. I've watched most of the classic series, a few Next Trek episodes, Wrath of Khan, and the new "Star Trek" movie, and it's all been good but there's nothing that really hooked me. It's just mildly entertaining. At least, for me, anyway.

Reality Shows: Let's face it, without the editing programs it would suck. Cracking eggs without special effects would be boring. Hammering a nail would be boring too. But adding dramatic music, commentary, etc. Would make it look good when really in real reality it's boring.

Alcohol: Alcohol is fine as long as people stay away form steering wheels and even trouble.

Drag Racing on the Streets: Seriously, wtf? Racing on the streets always don't end well. (police, crashes, deaths, etc.)

Gangs: Same goes with street racing it doesn't end well. (police, fights, deaths, etc.)

BLASPHEMY!

Nah, I can understand some people not liking Star Trek. I can also understand some people (not you I assume) not liking anything Sci-Fi either. I happen to enjoy it myself. The original series was very cheesy (which I find humor in myself), but for its time, I thought it was very good. Sci-Fi has gone a long way since then, but it all started somewhere, and during a time with different regulations for what was on TV, added with the fact that it was aired on a major network (also before they had cable, for sure, something we take for granted these days) You can say similar things about the older version of Battlestar Galactica, although not as good as the newer one for sure. As for the Star Trek movies (the first six being of the original cast), I wasn't wild about the Motion Picture (the first one), as it was way too much focus on special effects and way too little of everything else. Wrath of Khan was without a doubt my favorite of the bunch. Roberto Montalban's acting was superb, as they brought back a great character (Khan) from one of the TV show episodes. The next two, the Search for Spock and The Voyage Home I also enjoyed a lot. The Final Frontier and The Undiscovered Country I can't even remember to this day, thus they weren't as good as the trilogy. The four TNG movies I thought were good too, but generally went slightly downhill with each one that followed, I think. Generations and First Contact I think were definitely the better two of the four. I did enjoy the most recent one with the new actors for the original crew, but I can't say it was my favorite.

I'll jump on this train as well...

Star Trek, Star Wars, Doctor Who, you name it. Sci-fi in general actually, though there's a few shows I have taken a liking too, most notably Battlestar Galactica (I swear, the lamest thing about that show is the name itself. Rest of it is a deep, awesomely written show on-par with favorites like Breaking Bad, Entourage, True Blood and Dexter, which is f***ing awesome icon_biggrin.gif I loved Stargate Universe too, and I did see most of SG-1 and some Atlantis, though the latter was horrible.

I don't know, I'm not really a nerd, nor a geek (not that there is anything wrong with being one) so I guess most sci-fi simply isn't up my alley. I don't hate all sci-fi simply because it's sci-fi though, because I do know there are some awesome ones out there. I have nothing against sci-fi as long as it isn't overly cheesy. I suppose that's my main problem with it; being cheesy and a little too 'geeky' in terms of the humor (though not all of em has humor anyway). I can however stand it, so it's not like I hate it icon_razz.gif I mean, compared to anime. >_<

Edit: Just for clarification, yes I know you don't have to be a nerd or a geek in order to enjoy sci-fi. You can't deny that is the main audience for it however icon_razz.gif

Yeah, I can appreciate that it's a good series for the most-part. But I'm a Doctor Who fan all the way.

@ Robin, you don't have to like sci-fi in order to like Doctor Who, though. You just have to be able to appreciate a freaking uncanny and epic protagonist. And anyway, Doctor Who is one part sci-fi and three parts mystery. The sci-fi part of it takes a back seat to the plot most of the time.

Robin: If you haven't seen it before, you might enjoy Firefly. It only lasted one season (I blame the Fox Network's mismanagement on that, although it would have done better on a cable network.), but it definitely brings a unique perspective to Sci-Fi that you won't find in other Sci-Fi series, although I would say that Battlestar Galactica (the newer one) comes closest to it.

EDIT: I have never seen Dr. Who, so I can't comment on that. Maybe I will get into it one of these days.

Doesn't really help when I don't like Doctor Who to begin with though. Quite frankly I think it's lame, boring and the humor makes me cringe icon_razz.gif

I've actually heard that it's really good, but I can't get myself to start watching a show that I know doesn't have a proper ending :/

Well that's not really fair. For one thing, it's not supposed to be a comedy. For another, the writing changes completely every time they switch doctors, so saying it's lame, boring or unfunny really depends on which doctor you're watching. For example, if the only Doctors I had ever been exposed to were Patrick Troughton and Christopher Eccleston, I'd probably hate the show to no end. But instead I started with Matt Smith, and then worked backwards, and as you can tell now I absolutely love the show.

Doctor Who,

icon_eek.gif
Doctor Who is nothing like typical sci-fi like Star Trek or Star Wars. Not your typical cheesy alien show at all. It's about the history and future of the world, the story of Timelords. I found it simply the most amazing show I ever saw.

And Powergauntlets, I think that Eccleston rocks personally. He plays the role of the Doctor wonderfully and differently according to the story of the show.

I can appreciate Eccleston now that I'm already hooked on the show, but had I chosen to START with Eccleston, I probably wouldn't have gotten very far. He was a good doctor, yes, but the writing during his season wasn't much to speak of. Plus when you take into account the transition from Eccleston to Tennant, they're basically the same doctor - he doesn't change much at all save for appearance.

It is completely fair because it is my opinion. This is what, the third time you're complaining about what I've put in this topic. Drop that, I'm not saying what you don't like, I'm saying what I don't like. There's a difference icon_razz.gif

And it doesn't matter if it's not supposed to be a comedy, there is still humor in it (you can't deny that), and said humor is lame and makes me cringe. Keyword: me.

And I'm not saying you have to like what I have to say. But I'm well within my boundaries to say that your perspective on it is, perhaps, a bit incomplete and that it would be worth your while to give it a second chance.

I have never seen any reason to avoid redeeming something in one's own mind. To go on disliking a series when there may be something out there that will redeem it for you a thousand-fold just seems absolutely pointless to me.

For example, I hate the Jonas Brothers to no end. But with that in mind, if they did a Jazz-Fusion album, I would give it a listen, and maybe even enjoy it. I have not resigned myself to the idea that anything I currently hate will remain that way. Hell, look at my profile. It used to be that I was the kid who heckled other kids for watching girly shows. And now, well, I guess the joke's on me.

So yeah. People seem to revel in their own perpetual dislike for stuff. But that's not for me. I like redemption.
