Hmm, that's pretty much how every Sonic game is anyway and you don't complain for the rest.

Not really. Play Colors DS, or Sonic 4. They have fast parts, sure, but they still have platforming. Or at least require Sonic to press the A button every once in a while. It looks like you can beat almost the entire level just by holding down the boost button. Rush did that too, and if you'll notice, I DO complain about those ones. A lot.

Yeah, but, I dunno, most Sonic games have, I dunno... obstacles? icon_shrug.gif

Levels in Sonic Unleashed are all like that. You don't really stop at all. You just start, keep on going, then finish. Yippy!
Not really. Plenty of Unelashed levels actually required careful timing in places (and I don't mean the QTEs). Even the first level required more skill than the 3DS video. icon_unsettled.gif

Also I'm not complaining. Just saying the truth, that not all Sonic games are boost and nothing more. Cuz, well, they're not. Some crappy games are, but not most of them.

Sonic is supposed to be about SPEED so wouldn't you expect it to have alot of boosting?
Anyways I don't think the whole game will be like this, it is only level one.

Someone is forgetting about the original Genesis Sonic games. They've been all about platforming as much as they have speed. I know it's just the first level and the whole game may not be this way, but I'm just trying to explain that "OMG Sonic's should be fast lulz" is not an excuse to, well, excuse blind or bland level design, sacrificing clever platforming in the name of speed. Cuz that's not fun, that's "Press the A button to win."

And that's all I have to say on the subject. Moving on.

EDIT: And on a random funny note, my Sonic playlist on iTunes is on. I swear I didn't plan this. D:

Was that... was that really the music they're using for Green Hill Zone? I thought they would've remixed the music for the stages, but they sound nothing alike. Huh. Strange.

I don't think it was. Probably filler music. Notice how the gameplay had no sound either?

UPDATE:

I like how they constantly chop and change the Modern footage so you have virtually no clue what to expect of it unlike the Classic footage.

Looking at it that way, you're right. Showing us less will make it that more exciting in the end, cuz the little of the Modern Sonic footage they showed had me worried, but when I saw the level playthrough video on Gamespot, I was impressed.

On a side note, here's some gameplay of the Classic and Modern Sonics in the 3DS version, albeit horribly filmed and Modern is cut way short:

Modern Sonic incorporates more elements of the recent console games than I thought. Makes me wonder what the future of the 3DS Sonic games will be like. Although personally if they can perfect this system and make games play as well as Colors DS, I say they should stick with the side-scrolling view. Cuz we don't want to lose pure side-scrolling Sonics forever, right? (Yes, I know that Unleashed, Colors, and Generations incorporate side-scrolling but in half the levels, not the whole thing.)

Okay, so we have an alternative to the crappy video above. These are not the greatest quality but they're clear enough you can plainly see what's going on, plus the audio quality is fantastic. So... here we go:

I need to go replay Sonic 1's Green Hill Zone; according to a comment on the Classic one, the level's just a port of the Sonic 1 version. I feel ashamed I don't already have it memorized. Plus it looks kinda short... not that the original one wasn't short, but if you're only giving us one Green Hill Zone for Classic Sonic, it should be longer. icon_frown.gif

Now for Modern. ... nothing new to say, except this is the clearest I've heard the remix of Green Hill Zone and I am in love with it. I want it now just cuz it sounds so awesome. Though the level does look slightly less empty than anticipated and suddenly I have a bit of hope. Yay.

The 3DS Modern Sonic gameplay does look quite better than I expected. Although, that might be cause I was expecting it to be more like sonic Rush than the 2D segments of Unleashed day stages. But holy damn, that music is awesome.

Unfortunately, I doubt I'll be getting this. The PS3 and Xbox versions, gameplay-wise, are far superior to me, and the 3DS Modern Sonic, sadly, just doesn't quite cut it for me. However, if I had reason other than this to start playing my old, unused PS3 or Xbox, I would DEFINITELY get it. Especially after seeing the City Escape stage. The Modern Sonic, while still being recognizable as Unleashed Day/Colours gameplay, showed touches of SA2 gameplay, which, seeing as how SA2 is my favourite Sonic game, made me VERY happy, then very disappointed as I remembered I wouldn't be able to get that version. icon_deformed.gif. But, then again, who knows, I might get the 3DS version anyway. Depends how good it's reviews are.

Also, TS, I didn't even play the Classic Sonics a lot and I noticed that Classic Sonic Green Hill Zone was just a Sonic 1 Green Hill Zone Act 1 port. icon_xd.gif

Meh, it looks okay. But the levels are WAY too short. Seriously, I could beat the Modern Sonic level in 30 seconds. Plus Modern still looks a bit empty. I think it's a little too early to make any conclusions though.

I would not mind short stages as long as they are fun, well thought out and if there are a lot of them.

I think it's just the first levels that are smaller. I am probably going to get the xbox360 version and not the 3ds one because I love the sonic unleashed day stages and the classic 2d type stages... the 3ds only has 2d gameplay it seems. The 360/ps3 have S.U. type stages AND classic 2d... icon_biggrin.gif icon_biggrin.gif icon_biggrin.gif icon_biggrin.gif icon_biggrin.gif icon_biggrin.gif icon_biggrin.gif icon_biggrin.gif icon_biggrin.gif icon_biggrin.gif icon_biggrin.gif icon_biggrin.gif

Confirmed. Maybe I've just seen too many beach zone levels (all three Green Hill and Emerald Hill Zone on Sonic 2) to recognize it immediately, but just played Sonic 1's GHZ Act 1 and compared it with video. Exact port. Just better graphics.

Maybe they just ran out of time and just ported the original level within the time limit so they could have some sort of demo? I hope that's all it is; that'd sorta defeat the purpose of making a whole new game based on the old ones. I mean depending on the levels I'd probably get it and have fun with it anyway (Casino Night Zone rumored, WHOO), but still, make new levels from scratch so the experience is fresh. icon_frown.gif

Both styles are absolutely incredible if done right. In Unleashed, modern gameplay was done right. In Colors, it was bogged down by limiting certain controls to certain areas (i.e. drift and quick-step) and clogged up and ruined by Wisps. But... no Wisps here, and controls are free again, so yay! ... also yes, level design has to do with it.

I'm pumped. I can't wait till that demo comes out so I can play it. w00t

There is a distinct lack of fun in that second video. It's short, and nothing but wild running, no real platforming, and them a stupid gimmick with the giant totem pole. It follows what looks like one path(can't choose where to go its all one way) and there's really no variety or real skill needed to do anything.

I expect it to not be any fun, as I did with Colors(which I ALSO hated immensely).

I'm going to get this spiel about how I'm always here bashing sonic games, but I HATE what Sonic became. There is very little of what the original games were like in the series.

I'm going to say this again, and as a fan of Sonic the Hedgehog: I want the series to die.
