The requirements to get someone to move in changed slightly after 1.0.6.
A house must include one "comfort item", one "flat surface furniture", and a door, be fully enclosed in blocks made of something other than dirt, have walls behind it made of something other than dirt or Dungeon walls, and must have at least one Light Source.
The Workbench would be the table or flat surface item and the bed would be a comfort item and you would most likely have a door.

And the moral of our story is build your house out of dungeon blocks.
Anyways, I'm really hoping for a Mac version (even though I very well know it's impossible because of how the game is coded) as apparently, Steam makes the family PC implode...no idea why.

You might take a look at this, then.
If that doesn't work for you, google WineBottler and run the PC version of Steam inside of it. The necessary frameworks run well inside of it, and Terraria is not very intensive anyway.
