Really, the point I was trying to make is, if all you're excited for is who is going to be in the game, rather than how they played, I questions the motives of those who follow the game. Like, by this logic, there's no reason to even buy the game, since the leaks already revealed the roster, and you know what I think? This is silly.

It's basically like saying, "Hey, want to go watch a movie?" and then saying, "No, because I already know what the plot is." Okay, yeah, you know the plot, but do you know what's around it that you might also enjoy? It's practically identical to the term "Never judge a book by its cover." If you don't enjoy one aspect of a game, you need to consider the others, and see if maybe you'll enjoy them.

I can actually make an example out of the previous Smash Bros. Games. In particular, items. Sure, it takes out the competetive aspect of Smash, but replaces it a different aspect, known as sitting down, and enjoying the game with items. Don't enjoy items? Well, okay, let's turn off items, and hey you enjoy it some more.

Simply put, I'm thinking you shouldn't judge a game based on some simple aspects such as how a demo played, the roster, or the OPness of the Villager. (Even though, he totally needs a slight nerf.) You enjoyed the previous games in the series, but there were never any real demos for those. Simply put, a demo is suppose to get you prepared for the whole thing.

Oh, and if I recall correctly, Custom Movesets are limited to offline play, unless playing online with friends. :x

You're welcome to disagree, but the reason I feel Smash Bros even became popular was because of the roster. It isn't because of the gameplay that everyone bought the games, it's because it has "Nintendo's Superstars" in it. Otherwise I'm sure there are a bunch of other fighting games to enjoy.

I do get what you're saying, but I am asking what other content there is to be excited about still. For someone who doesn't like playing online, doesn't have multiple 3DSes and is only interested in about 2 newcomers, what else is there? There's no Story nor Adventure mode from what I hear. Classic will be just basic fights, Challenges will be alright if they're there and there's probably All Star mode? The game seems lacking in content from my view.

Now if connecting both games unlocked characters and an Adventure mode, I'd totally reconsider getting the 3DS version. But as nothing of that nature has been confirmed, I'll probably be sitting out.

The Wii U one I can at least play with my family on one system. Although they actually have less interest in the new characters than I do. One of them is a huge

characters that did not make it in spoiler
fan, btw. Missed opportunity there.

Well, I can definitely say I know how the final version of the game will play. It will be the same as the demo we currently have. (The promo code one) A bunch of people in the competitive community bought the japanese version of the full game and have been trying out the characters. So really, at this point, if I judge something based on a demo, then I have every right to because this demo is, in fact, the same.
Oh, and if there are still people saying that Villager is not OP and that we shouldn't judge the game so early, I can prove with just three videos just how broken he is.

Sleep well tonight everyone, knowing this murderer is in Smash 4.

I have to wonder HOW this got through testing. I think this pretty much confirms top tier and OP for him. And to think I thought he was OP without ever seeing his Pocket move or whatever it's called.

Personally, I do my best to avoid such bias, but I will react to this character roster the same way I reacted to the announcement that Russell Crowe would be playing Javert.

Don't you be dissin' Russell Crowe in my presence, boy. :glare:

Maybe that was the reason it originally became popular, but if it didn't have ridiculously fun and creative gameplay, it wouldn't have stayed popular, consistently sold well, and consistently had very good ratings. And in regards to there being a "bunch of other fighting games to enjoy"... Yes, but there isn't any game like Smash Bros. Well, I'm sure a few lackluster clones have popped up *coughSonycough* but they wouldn't exist if it weren't for Smash Bros. Smash Bros. is unique, its stages aren't all the same with different graphics, it has items to spice up the gameplay, and it also has an air game, which in the past was limited to meager jumping punches and kicks. The stages are varied with their own unique hazards and gimmicks as well.

There are plenty of people who love the Smash Bros. gameplay and don't care for other fighting games at all. Smash Bros. is a unique style that you can't compare to the majority of mainstream fighting games out there.

Anyways, thoughts on Villager: Canceling Final Smashes is stupid, shouldn't happen, and should be patched out.

I think you and Adem were interpreting my post wrong. You're very welcome to let whoever the roster is be your source of hype, but what I'm saying is, it shouldn't be the ONLY reason. In fact, it was my source of hype as well. I was talking about how people just assume their hype is ruined because one single thing that you were hyped about was ruined. If it is indeed ruined, then think about the other things, and see if "hey, this seems fairly interesting, there's something to be hyped about."

Also, HG,

Is momentum still cancelled when you perform a jump?

Because that's one thing I hated from Brawl, and I don't understand how a platform-based fighting game which has some influences from the first Super Mario Bros. has momentum cancelling on air.

It just feels wrong.

Ugh, that sucks.  I am a platinum Club Nintendo person, but I had the marketing emails off on the settings... so that means I don't get a code... LAME

I think we really have to wait for tournaments to really see how OP Villager is... Because if Pocket is his only OP move and everything else is normal, I guarantee you that players will just avoid using projectiles or use them to bait a pocket and then punish. Sure, he'll probably be top tier for the first little while, but once people figure out his weaknesses, he will divebomb down the tier list.

If you look at the history of the tier lists, sometimes characters may start near the top of the tier list, but then drop over time as people realize that they are one trick ponies. Zelda in Melee was pretty high on the tier list at first (likely due to raw KO power), but dropped quickly (likely as a result of people discovering new ATs and learning Zelda's play) in just a couple tier lists. Olimar started off in high-mid tier, but now claims third place on the tier list. Point is- tier lists change over time- as long as we don't have another Meta Knight, we're good.

Hopefully, Nintendo gives into the public's demands and provides occasional balance patches. I'm sure they realize, that with all the mods out there, that it is what the fans want.

It seems you might want to avoid playing as Peach in Online's For Glory Mode. Players have gotten hit with a one day ban by playing as her and doing her Down+B attack (where she pulls up a vegetable) near the start of the match. It seems the game sees it as Peach having an item (items are not allowed in For Glory Mode). It also doesn't help that apparently Peach's Down+B attack has a small chance of pulling up an actual item instead of a vegetable.

Who I think will be good:

Characters with quick aerials that can be performed out of shield
Characters with long grab ranges and preferably combos out of throw
Characters with aerials that can cover landing
Characters that can traverse the ground quickly

Noticed a neat thing about Megaman: If he's holding an item, it'll switch hands depending on which direction he's facing. This also determines which hand becomes his buster when he fires. That's a nice little touch.

Yeah, I noticed that too! A nice nod to the 8-bit days. Other characters such as Mario do this as well.

The game still seems to have a few bugs in it. Sometimes the music stops playing after picking up a starman. And another time the game froze when I tried following up on-line matches.

Luckily there's the possibility to patch things. And to add new characters *glares at Sakurai*

I just got the demo thanks to a friend.

Mario seems like the most solid. Pikachu is awkward to control, and hard to kill with. Villager is crazy good, and Mega Man is really taking time to get used to.

Link seems really good. He has nice control and doesn't feel stupidly heavy like other Smash games. He also has good KO power and projectiles.

Played it for a while. Really enjoyed it. The smoothness of the game is very impressive.

Link's attacks feel heavier, closer to Ike did in Brawl. That's a good thing to me, at least. I liked him probably the best.

Pikachu felt very much like Pikachu. Same with Mario, so not much to say there.

Villager was fun to play with, but I really don't have much to say in terms of how he compares to anyone, since he feels pretty unique.

Mega Man takes a lot of getting used to, since his base A attack has little stun and no knockback. But he got dem lemons, so I still love him.

Overall, I really liked the taste of the game. I'm really excited for October 3rd. :D

After messing around with Megaman some more I think that his normal bullets actually don't reset the opponent's recovery. I've had several computer players fall to their death after using their B up to get back on the stage, getting hit by my bullets, and becoming unable to recover. It could just be cpu stupidity, so to properly test this I'd need a human opponent.
