It really shows you a different side of the game, and I can't say I don't like it
Though, because of this, I wasn't able to get much furhter than the fifth Gym before reaching my review-deadline, so I had to write it before I actually finished it. This happens all the time with game critics... I mean, they usually don't have time to focus on one game for more than a few hours, but that's also usually enough time to get a good idea of what the game is like, and thus rate it accordingly. Of course, games like Heavy Rain, where the base of the game lies in its story, you pretty much have to complete it in order to be able to review it properly, but Pokemon isn't really that story-driven
Speaking of the story, I really liked how it started out. It made you think who might be the actual bad guys... I mean, their plan was to save the Pokemon from the evil trainers. I dug that, but then the story pretty much falls short, where the "bad guys" are the bad guys, and the good guys are the good guys. The story really had a lot going for it, but then Game Freak decided to play it safe. Too safe. I wish they hadn't, but oh well.
Anyways, if you wanna read my review (gonna have to use Google translate if you're not Norwegian or Swedish though), you can find it here.
I originally gave it an 8/10, but my editor decided to drop it down to a seven, seeing as he felt the review itself was written more like a "7/10" article, rather than an 8. It's not a big deal, and honestly, I kind of agree with him, the seven is a bit more fitting. As I said in the article, it's a great game, no doubt, and if you're a poke-fan you're gonna love it... but there's just not enough new here to grant it anything more than an 8, in my opinion. Of course, a 7 is not a bad rating

Man... If you ask me, this game deserves to be played all the way through. During the beginning, I was "oh, just another plan to free and abuse Pokemon..." But towards the end, around the 8th badge and up, N's and Ghetsis's characters get tremendously built, and I actually felt the need to save others' Pokemon from being set free. The ending (post-Elite Four) was incredibly impacting for a Pokemon game-- much more intense and satisfying than any before. In my opinion (and others, I'm sure), the ending itself would bump up any number grade by at least a whole number. That, and the game seems to pick up after the 5th or 6th gym, at least for me, when you learn the backstory to the heroes and legendaries. Also, getting the gym badges is less like a chore in this game, but more as a duty and "test" so you can get to the Elite Four to stop Team Plasma, which is a good thing to me, since the player is not in the game to become the "most powerful Pokemon Trainer" like every other.
As for the story itself, it did get a little questionable (in a good way). Like, I could easily empathize with Plasma's goals and ideals. But, around the Elite Four, you learn how diabolical the leaders are, and well... that's the first time I felt sorta angry at the antagonists in any Pokemon game.
However, I understand your predicament, and I'm not angry at you by any means-- to fully enjoy any game, not just Pokemon, I feel one has to play it slowly and appreciate it all the way through. It seems a bit unfair to put a deadline on rating games, considering only a few hours allows the very beginning of most stories. (in the end, I would've rated the game a 9 or 10, but that is just me and I really enjoy Pokemon for some reason)

Personally, the story really falls short for me, but hey, whatever floats your blimp!
But no, deadlines aren't unfair. They're completely 100% necessary. Without them, critics would end up playing the games for so long that the review isn't finished until long after the game has been released. You have to remember that writing a game review is not as simple as just sitting down and writing it. There's lots of careful planning and research to be done... for example, getting your facts straight is deadly important. If you don't do this, people will point it out, and it will make you lose credibility.
That said, again, Pokemon really isn't the kind of game you have to play all the way through. I mean, it's still pretty much the same game we've been playing for 13 years, with only a few improvements, most of which you see during the first few hours anyway, and the story is hardly the driving force behind the series
But again, great game. Loving it. But it does not deserve more than an 8, in my opinion, or a 7 in this case, but it's a strong 7, anyway.

Did you know that Black/White has broken a lot of sales records having the second largest week 1 next to black ops? My point is, Don't fix what is not broken.

First off: 7/10 is not a bad rating!!!!
Secondly: I didn't say it was a bad game. I didn't ask em to fix anythign either, all I said is that there simply is not enough new here to warrant a higher rating. Higher ratings goes for games that break bounds, that are so unique and original and awesome that they blow your mind. Pokemon Black and White has not blown my mind, not at all. It's Pokemon, and the second I started up the game, I knew exactly what's about to go down for the next 50 hours or so. Is this bad? NO! But is it rehashed from a sixteen year old game? Yes. THAT's why it's not getting a higher rating. Now, before anyone else complains about my rating, read my actual thoughts on the matter, cause I explain why. >_<
Also, just to note, if I sound angry, disregard that

As for the games themselves, I've been looking through everything I like, and have managed to single out those I definitely would use by the end of the game. Now I'm just debating between Snivy and Oshawott. I know Snivy could be amazing with Contrary, but grass types tend to get the short end of the stick.

Also, Robin, I was originally surprised by your 7/10, but it made a lot more sense when you mentioned the scale the guys you review for use. It's a lot more reasonable than the scale a lot of people use right now, where anything below a 7 is considered mediocre.
That being said, I'd probably give it around an 8.5 even on your scale, but I also got to play through it a lot faster because I was off all of last week.

Plissken's playing some Pokemon again. For the first time in...10 years I bought a Pokemon game. That game was black, obviously.
Now.
Who's man enough to fight my level 23 Timburr? No? How about my level 22 Sawk? I didn't think so. He's a beast. You can't touch him.
I don't really know where I'm going with this. It's a fun game, can't connect to the internet on my DS cause of campus network restrictions, but maybe when I get my badass team up to level 100 by summer I can spar someone. Bring it.

Of course, once I catch him, I'll gladly share my Thundurus with a Pokemon Black player, providing I get said Pokemon back once you're finished catching Landorous yourself. : )

I can't seem to add friend codes, but I can do random battles and random trades. Still trying to figure out why it says the friend code is invalid when it's not lol.
