Roffle, thanks! And now, witness Cecil's phobia of Roaches!

Nice. Doesn't look like so much of a scared look though. Looks more like a "HOLY CRAP WTF IS THAT THING!?" look. Still great though.

I haven't drawn anything in awhile. This was the most recent thing I drew, and was sometime ago.

Mermaid

Yes. A mermaid. Leave me alone. icon_razz.gif

Looks great to me. I see nothin' wrong.

Now, can I ask a question? Where would be a good place to learn to start drawing? I have about all thew drawing skills of a dead cat. I can't even draw a half-decent stick figure. How did you guys learn to draw? Just lots of practice, or certain books/sites, or something else?

I haven't uploaded anything here, but that's irrelevant.
I've been drawing since I was two, so I self-taught myself for the most part. But when I want to incorporate a different style into my drawing I look at someone else's picture and copy some of the details (not the whole the mind you, you don't need to make a perfect replica). Even if you mess up, continue the picture until your done. Once it's done it will become a lot more clear what you need to change. Also, START WITH THIN, LIGHT LINES AND MAKE A SKETCH to begin with, then go over that darker.
PS Don't worry, I can't drawing stick figures either. icon_razz.gif

Not that everyone should learn how to draw realistic stuff, but this collection of books is by far one of the best I've ever read, and without taking any serious study into them, just skimming as already taught me some really useful techniques. They're also out of print, but in general considered to be some of the best "how to" books ever.

http://alexhays.com/loomis/

I "learned" by looking at how other people drew, copied what worked, and in general just drew. A lot. There is not a single class period methinks that I've attended throughout my life where I haven't drawn a face or something.

Right now I signed myself up as a daily comic artist for a school newspaper and will be becoming the graphic editor come spring; so in that sense I'm also pushing myself into the wonderful world of doing art on deadlines!

In general find some motivation (whether that be ambition, a girl, or forced ambition) and the rest will come. Just keep at it, eventually you'll make something worthwhile.

That is actually very interesting. It's actually too bad I can't apply those techniques very well =(...OH WELL GUESS THAT'S WHY I'M NOT GOING TO BE AN ARTIST, BUT A PROGRAMMER icon_awesome.gif!

Just as I was playing Final Fantasy 6, I got the urge to Draw Cecil some poses Final Fantasy style. Can't fight those urges XD.

My latest work, "Icy Christmas":

@Koh: You should use layers as your current method of coloring leaves white pixels around the edges of your line art. To make this as simple as possible in Photoshop: Desaturate your line art, right click on the eraser tool, and select "Background Eraser". Now set the size to the maximum, the sampling to "Background Swatch", the limits to "Discontiguous", the tolerance to 100%, check "Protect Foreground Color", and finally make sure your two colors are set to black and white with black as the foreground color. Click on the image and it will remove all white and leave nothing but black parts behind. Now create a new layer underneath of that and use it to color.

I also think you should either learn how to use the pen tool or cheat take advantage of Adobe Illustrator's Live Trace function so that you get a smoother end result like so:

Mr. Pimpy, I bow low before you. Your art is so unique, which is rare nowadays (I mean, almost everybody's drawing manga/anime and a few months ago I wasn't an exception either). I like the colours you use, I love the fact that you work with patterns (gotta love patterns!) and textures, I like how different your art is. It's not totally creepy, though some pieces are. Now, if you decided to go more into a pop-art direction, I will be your slave for a lifetime (not really, though).
You, sir, are screaming INDIE all over the place and I love it. My greatest thanks for sharing your remarkable work with us. It's a pleasure following your progress. If I had a flat, I would buy prints of your work and hang them on my walls. That coffee-cup would be awesome on any citchen's wall, for example.
...I felt the urge to write this down once.

That's pretty much the most wonderful thing anybody has ever said about my artwork, thank you I'm flattered really. : )

I'm pleased to have finally found a stable style that I'm happy with, but to be honest my technical ability as an artist is still developing and I feel that I'm far from my potential. Only time will tell, though, I suppose.

Yeah, I don't have Photoshop, but I could use the pencil when I see those white pixels occur. Thanks for the heads up! By the way, your art is epic O-O!

Now, don't feel offended by this, but are you high when you are drawing? It seems like there's no boundries for you fantasy oO That plane is about the most awesome thing you could add to the scene. It sort of reminds me of World War II (together with the pinkish colour "Enola Gay" came to my mind immediatly), which makes the picture quite meaningful. I wish I would have such ideas. (I'm rather afraid of drawing things that don't live, for some strange reasons.)

Well it was Veteran's Day here yesterday and my neighbor's birthday. Her father piloted a B17 during WWII and was shot down over Munich and had a hero moment, which I guess is a very memorable story of him to her so she wanted me to draw this. I'm not sure where the bear fits into it but she asked for a bear too.

And lol no I'm not high when I draw. Except maybe on caffeine sometimes.

edit: s*** i just realized i forgot one of the propellers... hopefully she won't notice

drippy:

I'm digging your color choice and execution a lot Mr.Pimpy, though the subjects themselves aren't doing it for me. The eyeball background one you posted awhile ago was fantastic, but the center dude just didn't pull it together. The fetus hands were pretty neat. Same with the drippy moon. The execution is awesome, but the moon just seems to be missing a grabbing quality. Keep it up though dawg, you got skills.

I haven't done much other than comics lately... but I'm getting the hang of this I think.

Believe it or not, people can have creative thoughts without getting high. I think it's kinda insulting to the creators when people assume they couldn't have come up with something fantastic on their own. Sorry, but this is a strong pet peeve of mine.
