The problem is that in the original image you can see how his arm goes from his elbow into his hand. Because of your shading you can't tell the difference between the two and it looks like his hands are just really f***ed up. Look again at the form and the way the skeleton on that picture of the thief is structured.
You can base drawings off of pictures, but do. not. forget. structure.
Even underneath cartoon dogs, don't just draw fixed lines on him. Determine a body structure; whether it be circles or squares; some sort of skeleton for him to exist in. It'll help make all your drawings both look better and more consistent.

That's a pretty silly source image.

I do use shapes as bases. I don't use the shape tools, but I do draw circles and stuff and morph them into what I need. And the source image was kinda silly, wasn't it
And as requested by Yoshidude, Cecil as Mega Man.

Probably the best yet. The look on his face is great! Nice work!
Roffle, thanks! And now, witness Cecil's phobia of Roaches!

Not that everyone should learn how to draw realistic stuff, but this collection of books is by far one of the best I've ever read, and without taking any serious study into them, just skimming as already taught me some really useful techniques. They're also out of print, but in general considered to be some of the best "how to" books ever.

Thank you for posting these. It'll definitely help me on my way to improving my work.
I haven't drawn anything in awhile. This was the most recent thing I drew, and was sometime ago.
Mermaid
Yes. A mermaid. Leave me alone.
Now, sometime after this, I decided to make a conscious effort to make my work better. Since this is the most recent drawing I spent some time on, I figure this would be a good 'starting point' to see what I'm doing right and what I'm doing wrong. A little self-analysis helped me figure some stuff out, but I'm sure there's more I need to work on, and obviously, my own eyes are not enough to pick out problems. Tear it a new rear-end. I'm not afraid of some criticism.
Here's what I've picked out through self-analysis:
- The hands suck. Horribly. They looked better in the pencil work, but not much. XD
- The arms are probably too long.
- Shoulders. Especially her right (our left) shoulder.
- The hair doesn't look right. The head's wrong too, I'm sure. XD
- The neck sucks.
- The tail isn't correct. That is, the width is not consistent.
- The eyes. Argh. I have no idea why I drew them like that. D: Even on younger characters, I've never done them like that, and it's bugging me now.
- If her nose was fully fleshed out, it'd cause horrible problems with her mouth. O_o
Though I guess it doesn't help too much since she doesn't actually have legs. XD
But yeah, I appreciate any criticisms anyone can offer. Though it is an older drawing, I'm sure I can learn a few things from it to help improve my future work.
