For comparison (and for my own amusement), I threw together an actual NES version of Stone Tower Temple.

stone_tower_temple.nsf

You can play NSF files in FCE Ultra if you don't have anything else for them.
(Edit: actually, that should've been Stone Tower Temple. And now it is icon_razz.gif)

Midi will never be able to compete with the originals, there's my excuse. icon_razz.gif

In other words, thats going into my NSF collection. icon_thumbsup.gif

I still need to find that old soundfont. I wonder if it exists somewhere at all?

I would LOVE you if you could recreate Kefka's laugh in MIDI icon_naughty.gif But seriously, what you've come up with already is prostyle.

You realize how easy it would be for me to insert Kefka's Laugh in, right?

Timidity++ allows me to set a wave as an instrument in any bank, you get me the sound effect, and it goes in. I'm serious.

I mean come on. I made This in PxTone, why the hell wouldn't I want to make it as a MIDI? I'm thinking about a place called "The Agony Realm" in my quest, after all. I have a use for such madness.

The hardest part of setting this up is actually configuring large soundfonts. For example, the Megadrive/Genesis soundfont has 97 samples. These samples are annoyingly difficult to setup a bank list for. I have to do it one at a time, and it kind of looks like this:

CODE

bank 6
0 %font "Megadrive.sf2" 0 0 amp=0 pan=0
1 %font "Megadrive.sf2" 0 1 amp=0 pan=0
2 %font "Megadrive.sf2" 0 2 amp=0 pan=0
3 %font "Megadrive.sf2" 0 3 amp=0 pan=0
...
95 %font "Megadrive.sf2" 0 95 amp=0 pan=0
127 %font "Megadrive.sf2" 0 127 amp=0 pan=0

I have it automated with very basic parameters and then I tune it by playing songs with those instruments. and FluidGM's instruments and see how they sound together.
I'm upset, though. I can't perfectly emulate Lava Powerhouse in MIDI. Of all the songs I've ever heard coming off the Genesis, Lava Powerhouse has to be one of my favorites, Door into Summer was on the 32x so it doesn't count. icon_razz.gif

I should try and do the Sonic 3 miniboss(not the Sonic & Knuckles miniboss, I have the "woo"s and the "come-on!" in the drum kit.) As another example.

Come to think of it, I have to finish the K.K. Slider example too.

Not to mention physically impossible. icon_razz.gif

Well, I take that back. If you were to get a paper cut on the tip of the top side of your finger, right at the base of where the nail protrudes from the skin, you could get a fingernail under your paper cut. But it might not be too bad. Then again, I might be over-analyzing this. icon_razz.gif

I've had little slivers of keys (I'm a keycutter.) beneath my <insert body part> ... I've had them under my fingernails before. They do kinda hurt, quite a bit. Had 'em in my elbows, between my fingers, one or two stuck forever inside of my skin, driven far too deep, ... and even a few in my mouth. icon_unsettled.gif Some in my nose, too. Oh god, you're afraid to breathe.

I walked into a hanging metal bar today. Hit myself in the head.

And guess what I did five minutes later? Walked into the same freaking bar!

Currently, I am winning in the stupid injury department.

Maybe we all should start a club for people who stupidly injure themselves.

Hm. So, a guy walks into a bar. Five minutes later, he does it again. Then he writes about it on the Internet.

It's funny because it's true.

R.O.F.L. !

That reminds me of the day we were writing descriptions of the different settings in ZQ for a tutorial, and someone (I think Shadowtiger but I'm not sure) came up with

Invisible enemy flag: So Link walks into a bar ...
