I've been making a soundfont and used the Timidity driver. My midi actually sounds like Minish Cap/Ocarina of Time/LTTP(save some random instruments taken from Synthfont's default soundfont, and drumkits from FluidGM 3 and Vintage Dream Waves which was probably a bad idea, because of the reverb.)

I'm working on putting a whole soundfont together for Zelda Classic so that it makes music sound more authentic.

You should make some awesome Victorian era-London music. Like this or like this or hell who am I kidding, ANYTHING from these sources.

Finding video game music fitting for such a setting is frustratingly hard.

I'm actually not making music, just a soundset for MIDI. icon_razz.gif

Plays stone tower now as another example - Its not supposed to sound completely accurate, unfortunately, but it still sounds pretty good to me.

That sounded really good. Well, it's my favorite Zelda song, so I would like it no matter what, but still. icon_razz.gif

After I do some figuring out in midi, I'm gonna post two more examples. If those tests go well, I'll be releasing the soundfont, with instructions on how to set up Timidity++ and some more example songs to play with.

With the exception of K.K. Slider's voice replacing sounds 91 to 98, and 126, the soundfont is pretty much GM compliant.

Final Test - Sanctuary LTTP when compaired to the actual song

I'm having some difficulting getting it to work correctly. I have a certain problem right now.

One: Abandon General Midi and make a soundfont that doesn't follow those standards, leaving all midi music, except those built specifically for the soundfont, sound horrible.

Two: Stick with GM and abandon all hope.

Go with option two. It's really only useful if it can be used with other midis too.

Well, no, not really.

This soundfont was being made for me so I could make my songs song more authentic. Even if I have to edit the midis myself to fit in it, I would do it. However, its pretty much useless if no one else were to take the time to set up Timidity++ as their windows driver and load the soundfont in.

Honestly, I'd be willing to put forth the extra effort to get this awesome quality. icon_smile.gif So all I would have to do is install this Timidity++ and swap my soundfonts? Because if you do release this, I'll be all over it. icon_razz.gif

You would have to set it as your MIDI driver.

I won't be releasing it any time soon, though. I want to release it along-side my quest so that I have a sort of example and a bunch of midis you can play with designed for the soundfont.

Still, it'd be great to have a GM-compatible one, even if it meant leaving out a few sounds. Might even make for a better patches.dat for the Linux builds.
