Definitely some cool stuff there Dawnlight! I really like the Aeries and Sephiroth cosplays there. It's always fun to see people try things like that.

I attended Anime North the past weekend. I took a bunch of pictures, but haven't had a chance to really get them off my phone, haha. It was a fun time overall and one of the smoothest years our group has had. (Especially compared to last year where if something could go wrong, it went wrong) I kinda feel like I've gotten into a bit of a rut with it though, as I've been doing the same few things each year so for next year I'm hoping to change it up a bit. I guess that's to be expected after 6 years there, haha.

What was pretty cool though was browsing through the artist alley and seeing someone who had some Final Fantasy XIV prints. On top of that, they did commissions and used their character as an example of their work. After working out some details on a commission of my own, we just casually talked about XIV until the area closed for the night. That kind of thing is something I really enjoy - just striking a conversation with someone like that. Last year there was someone who I probably spent about an hour or so talking about (Super) Famicom game collecting and ways to play them. Fun times.

I got a free pass at Grand Rapids Comic Con last year.

So yea, I'm going to JAFAX tomorrow. It's only like 10-15 minutes from my apartment.

Alright, so I was actually disappointed by JAFAX. Despite all the hype, there really wasn't much to write home about. The vendor hall was maybe half the size of Shuto-Con's, and the video gaming room wasn't even close to as good. The whole con seemed like it started to die at 7, with a large chunk of people leaving about that time. And then there was registration. Because so few people pre-registered, they didn't expect a very large turnout, and were swamped at registration on Friday. I'm glad I pre-registered, because the rest of my group spent about 3 hours in the registration line.

Given this is their first year in this new venue, I'll most likely give them another chance to grow into it, but it was not the hype.

Have fun Dawnlight and Jaghnus at your respective conventions!  Let us know how they go!  :3

Same con, actually. Ran into Dawnlight yet again.

JAFAX 2016 was nowhere near as good as Shuto Con 2016. But I still had a pretty good time all weekend. It definitely has quite a few flaws which I will be covering in my review.

I'm at the airport right now, getting ready to fly down to LA for Anime Expo again. Definitely not a trip I'd normally take just for a con I only have a mild degree of interest in, but it's more to visit my ex-girlfriend (which probably sounds weird but we're still super close friends). Last year, we planned on doing Four Swords and Teen Titans group cosplays, but the latter didn't go exactly as planned, due to budget, time, and stress. So I'm doing four cosplays this year: Ness, Red link (as part of the Four Swords group), Wirt (from Over the Garden Wall), and Dipper (as part of a Gravity Falls group). Should be fun.

Well that was fun. The expo itself was somewhat poorly handled, with the line to get badges stretching down multiple streets, blocking cars, and leading into alleys that I would rather not have visited. Multiple panels I wanted to see (Ace Attorney behind the scenes and Erased dub premier in particular) filled up after we'd been waiting in line for over an hour because the staff can't count. But overall, it was cool.

I've also noticed that for people who want to cosplay but don't want to put in a lot of work, Osomatsu and Undertale were the go-tos. So many sweatshirts, and so many blue (or green) striped shirts and flowers.
