The only real variable with Zelda is the RNG. Whoever it favors, allow them to rack up the most rupees in the shortest amount of time to buy all the fun stuff will have the advantage.

This is probably what I always start off doing. Only problem is... it usually takes me a while to get the most rupees >_>

I'll just have to go with the NES version. Apparently the GBA rom that was dumped needs to be flashcarted and played on a real GBA, since it uses an NES emulator within the GBA. Trying it in VBA just gives you an error. I guess we can't have emulator-ception going on, lol.
I didn't know it gave an error but it would run at the speed of snail anyway.
Yes let's do a Zelda 1 run. We can have the speed racers go against me, the 100-percenter who died 14 times the last time he played through it!

Yeah Zelda 1 race would be a great way to start off this whole race idea, although a SMW one was already done before ![]()
Also, if it's Zelda 1, I would love to do a 100% one, since I find it really simple and easy.

I'd be up for Zelda 1, too. I'd probably be playing on the NES version unless there are objections. I'd prefer to do any%, but whatever works.

100%? Does this include the Compasses and Maps even if you don't need them? What about just all equipment and max hearts?

Okay, stupid question. Could we maybe race an edited 1st quest in ZC that uses the rule that speeds up screen scrolling? The slow screen scrolling on the NES version drives me absolutely bonkers.

May as well use fast text too if you're going to do all that. But hey, it's not TOO bad XD. It's slow as ass, but not as slow as it was int he early NES Megaman games. Now THAT was slow.

The question being is there an unpassworded version around of the first quest of Z1 that can be edited? I couldn't find any myself when I checked.

I think a list should be made on what games are going to be played. That wold be nice, and let people pick the games they wanna run with others.
I'm really sad I missed the SMW run though D:
Anyways, I messaged you on Skype, Nick! I like the idea of the N64 Zeldas, maybe Banjo Kazooie, Super Mario Bros 2 and 3, etc.

Yeah, the earlier betas of 2.5 have Proposed_1st, an unpassworded first quest.

I'd like to reiterate that people can definitely race SMW if they want. Just because one group already did it doesn't mean it's suddenly out of bounds and unraceable. As long as you get a group of interested people together (it could just be 2-3 people), you can definitely do it!
As far as future warning, we're starting to plan out a Super Mario 64 race. That suggestion has come up a few times (even during the first SMW race). We'll be trying to give it a go this weekend (Friday at the earliest), so if you're interested in racing that, you should definitely join the race chat!
You can definitely race other games (including Zelda 1 like a few people have been discussing) besides these things I'm bringing up. We're actually in the midst of organizing an impromptu race over something short (I don't know what yet. That's what it means to be impromptu).

There's a seven-way Super Mario Bros. 2 race about to happen, though with only five people streaming but all seven are recording. Here's the multitwitch link if anyone wants to watch the streamers:
