(I just updated the quest file, Jamian.  What was updated, anyway?)

Currently in level 2.  Have the (first?) dungeon item, got the first key, unlocked the first door, and have the map.  Fell into the hole to the right of the chest with the map.  That didn't seem to do anything interesting.  What's the deal? :P

Chocobothief: Wooo! I think you can claim the medal for fastest completion of the quest. Well done.

Avataro: He's not that difficult but maybe you didn't use the right strategy:

Spoiler

ShadowTiger: Only minor stuff was updated. For example, Ulrira now gives you a hint immediately after introducing himself, I have made certain switches in a certain level a slightly different shade to make it a tad easier to differentiate them from other switches, etc. There are no major changes. When you fall down that hole, the blocks have to be in a certain position and then it will be a lot more interesting.

I finished level 4 and I'm starting level 5

Level 4 was awesome, I have wished it would last more. The wind gimmick was nice.

Ahhh... this is the type of stuff that wakes me from the dream sometimes:

I finished Level 5, ridiculously good o_O Very creative, lol

And I detected a bug, I think. In the rooms where you need to kill the rabbits quickly, the puzzle did not work ... I did not have to kill them. The secret was solved automatically when I entered in the room.

Damn it, yes. Messing with scripts has screwed that up. I'm uploading a fixed version.

If you haven't beaten level 5 yet, please update the quest file before doing so, it fixes a bug :)

I'm still amazed with your new style of modern dungeon design. I was expecting at the start another classic quest, checking each wall in the dungeons with the spin attack. Haha, good times.

You has reached legendary status for me in ZC. The next step is the sky. Thank you very much.

I started playing. I'm mixed.

+ There's a professional feel about this quest.

+ You made outline sprites not clash with the classic set, it makes them more defining.

+ The OW palette is beautiful.

+ Shadow temple as level 1? Genius.

- Sadly some sprites do clash such as the houses and some sprites do look odd such as the cave set's lower elevation walls.

- Armos and Tektites in narrow areas is evvvvvvvil.

- Dodging fireballs and memorizing patterns in the dark? Not up my ally sorry especially for a Level 1.

A question, are push blocks meant to go over the 8x8 pixel block barriers?

I died once so far in the temple.

It's leaning on a 4.25/5 so far. It's really well designed but there are a few things that feel unintentionally evil. And it's not living up the hype in here. But I'm sure I'll enjoy it more once I'm out of the shadow gimmick.

I don't agree with Shane. I feel this quest pretty easy for my skill, lol. You have the boomerang from the start, that makes the thing very easy. Stun the armos and tektites. Use the candle in the darkness...

I would use a candle if, you know, had one. Why would I be walking in the dark otherwise?

Also my skills are fairly good too. I have a boomerang but the fact that armos and tektites are still in confining screens... IDK. I judge a quest from a unbiased perspective such as looking at the difficulty: is it fair for all players? Is this area fair to every extent?

Don't get me wrong, I'm loving Jamian's quest. But I can give criticism you know.

I was the first in criticising some elements on the overworld in previous pages. But I don't agree in this point.

Eiji Aonuma have done much damage to Zelda....

People have different skills. It's impossible to make everyone happy. You can make a game that even a five year old boy can clear... but for sure you will hurt the experience in the process.

It is the main reason why the Zelda series is a shadow of the past.

Thank god, Lost Isle exist. It's not for everyone. Rarely a game that is good for everyone, reached god status. Try to find a targeted audience.

*sigh*

You know, I never said I don't prefer a challenge. I loved Lost Isle and done a two death run. Nintendo do make their games easy, but kids deserve to play Zelda games as much as grown ups and "skilled" players. But this relates to the quest, how?

I could beat A Link to the Past when I was five and few will argue that its experience was suddenly hurt just because of that.

Regardless of your opinions of the Zelda series, you admitted that people have different skills and not every game is for everybody. By your own admission, Shane is free to criticize a quest for those very reasons. So it would be best to just ignore when someone states an opinion about a game that dissents with your own, it just comes off as petty. I believe we've had similar talks like this before, and hopefully it'll actually go somewhere productive this time.

ALTTP is much harder than the actual Zeldas. And you finished the game with five years. You proved my point ... that's the problem. In his new games, Nintendo treats new players like they were stupid.

I don't find the problem in debating a bit peacefully... but ok. The censoring in this forum is a bit exaggerating... Write in english is difficult for me, lot of effort wasted...

So Level 2 is really neat.  I have a strong passion for what the theme of the dungeon is (it's related to what my major in college would've been), and it's really well executed.

Really glad I randomly picked up this quest- I had no idea this was even being worked on, just saw it in the database and thought, "Eh, why not."

As for me... It's pretty clear that it's meant to be a hard quest.  While I do think there is such a thing as bad design, a game being difficult is a whole different ball game.  I still agree more with Shane and TS, particularly in that Level 1 did have some rooms that I found to be more annoying than challenging, relying on what felt more like dumb luck than skill.

Another thing with the whole "Zelda games are too easy" is, well, I'd rather it be that way than them all start being too hard.  For veterans of the series since the original games, we're not going to get a Zelda game that meets the bar for us unless it's too challenging for anyone else to play.  I can still have fun while playing easy games- Wind Waker is a relatively easy title, but it's one of my favorite games of all time.  Mainly because difficulty isn't the sole thing that determines how good an experience you have with a game.  Wind Waker has my favorite visuals, favorite story and setting, and of the best soundtracks.  Those things immerse me more into a world than something like, "This enemy can kill me in 2 hits when I have 10 hearts."

Also, don't hold your breath yet- A Link Between Worlds comes out in a week and well, it's ALttP's successor supposedly.  Aonuma has talked up about how the series has been easy lately and he wants to get away from that.
