As far as classic Link goes, he did have a "politically correct" shield. It was basically gold with a few zig-zag lines going diagonal up it, like a lightning design. I'm more interested to see what is done with Samus though. Perhaps there will be a skin that gives her red gloves and boots, with tubes on a green arm cannon?

You know though, I actually just thought about this. I wouldn't be surprised if the alternate skin for Link was his appearance in the upcoming 3DS Zelda game.

Promotion? Check.
Recent? Check.
Something Different? You bet.

Though it'd be pretty funny to see a Fuchsia-Pink hair Link with his LTTP tunic colors; blue-green for the body tunic and red-green for the hat.

(*shudder* I REAAAAALLY don't want to see LttP Link's clashing late-game colors ever again....)

Well, Koh, that's basically LttP Link, isn't it? Since it'd be the same Link, no real reason to refer to the titles separately, especially since it'd just be an alternate skin. Of course, if they had the Link from A Link Between Worlds as as separate playable fighter, that'd be another thing. I'm guessing that's unlikely, though. (What would they call him, for that matter? We already have had "Young Link" and "Toon Link." Perhaps something a little more specific to the story will be necessary if they differentiate between Links in coming SSB titles.)

I'd be perfectly happy if they brought back "Young Link" with a fighting style similar to Melee, though, even if he had LBW/LTTP's appearance... Toon Link was too "floaty" and weird for me to take seriously. The only things I liked better about him were 1. good jumping height, 2. his Sword Plant was slightly more useful, and 3. he had Young Link's wall-jump ability.

Oh, that sounds different from the art I saw. In Hyrule Historia it shows him with a cross that has been cut into three red rectangles to keep it from looking TOO much like a Christian cross.

I still have a feeling they might give Link the Beetle. It could be a little like Snake's remote-control missile. I'm not sure whether they'd remove the boomerang for that, though. It'd be a very different type of move, and probably not as powerful as the boomerang at short range (in Melee and Brawl, the boomerang has an audible "THWACK" and does extra damage if you hit someone at point-blank range, plus it disappears rather than returning).

So a friend found this:

Spoiler

This is probably the most beautiful thing related to Smash Bros. I've ever seen. Not gonna lie when I say I almost had tears in my eyes.

I'm afraid I agree that Capcom doesn't continue to deserve Mega Man, but the way they treated Keiji Inafune during the Megaman Legends 3 cancellation simply screams that Capcom would prefer to bury Megaman with their own two hands, rather than allow him to thrive under someone else.

(Background info: Keiji Inafune, who is Megaman's creator, split off to create a new game company after he quit Capcom, possibly as a result of MML3's cancellation. He offered to have his new company finish the game, sorta like how SSB games have been commissioned out to another team despite being very distinctly Nintendo.)

Anyway, my confidence in Capcom to make good business decisions has been completely broken, and right now I simply think they're flying blind. Anything they're doing right is just a matter of habit, or a result of the talent they already have employed, rather than conscious, good business decisions.

Nintendo should make an offer to buy the character.

Japanese business practices are so steeped in procedure, ceremony, and appearances that simply making an offer to buy would probably not be enough... but it'd be really cool if they managed to come out with some sort of (undoubtedly complicated) arrangement behind closed doors.

What seems more likely, though (as a best case scenario, at least), is that Megaman's appearance in SSB will revitalize him. That could lead to more future Megaman titles, but I have no idea whether it would ever cause previously-canned games to be revived. Since this is the original Megaman we're seeing, and since the old school downloadable sequels have been moderately successful (MM9-MM11), I suspect any success SSB brings will be focused on revitalizing the original Megaman series.

I hope that means more than just another NES-style Megaman sequel, though, because I don't like how they're handling them. They look WORSE than all the NES Megaman titles (except MM1, which was even more visually bland), and I hate the removal of the charge shot and sliding (Protoman doesn't count since he has other limitations in exchange for those abilities). But SSB Megaman has both a slide move AND a charge shot, so here's hoping......

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
NEW QUESTION: This isn't terribly important to the gameplay, but what palette/costume choices do you think Megaman will have? Here are my initial guesses:
Blue color scheme: you already know this one.
Green color scheme: green and white (like MM2 Leaf Shield, etc.)
Yellow color scheme: grey and yellow (like MM3 Top Spin, etc.)
..............OR: orange and white (like MM2 Crash Bomber, etc.)
Purple color scheme: purple and pink (like MM2 Flash Stopper)
Pink color scheme: pink and light pink (like MM2 Quick Boomerang)
Light color scheme: grey and white (like MM2 Bubble Lead, etc.)
..............OR: solid white (even though he's never actually had that color in a game)
Dark color scheme: black, white, and orange (like Bass/Forte)
Red color scheme: red and yellow (like MM2 Atomic Fire, etc.)
..............OR: red and white (like Rush and items use in various games)
..............OR: red and grey (like Proto Man, perhaps with sunglasses/scarf/shield/alternate helmet)
Homages to other incarnations of Mega Man are conceivable -- with slight costume changes, like that of Proto Man -- but the problem is that their default color schemes are almost always virtually identical to the original Mega Man (with the exception of Battle Network, who is blue, black, and yellow....just different enough, perhaps).
Note that Brawl gave characters a max of six color choices apiece, so it's unlikely that all of the above schemes will be offered as choices in the game.  However, the eight basic schemes I listed above were the ones most frequently seen for Brawl characters. Mega Man could basically have any number of color combinations they want, since they have so many to choose from...but they probably won't go overboard with it, because they'll want to prevent color confusion.
I think Mario's alternate skin should be Paper Mario! Actually... scratch that. Just make Paper Mario a character. He would actually end up with a completely different fighting style, using the Hammer, spin jump, etc.
I will admit, I will buy a Wii U just for this game.
So true. I've always loved the Super Smash Bros. series.
Just thought of something. What game has been on the DS, Wii, and 3DS, that nobody here has commented on? That's right, I'm calling it now...
Surprise character for SSB4: Quote from Cave Story. Has enough weapons and equipment to make a decent fighter, has had a ton of releases on Nintendo consoles, and is somebody that nobody will see coming yet many people will enjoy.
Olimar is cool. Glad he made it back.
I want to see Goemon from the Mystical Ninja series make it into this game.
It'd also be cool if any of the Belmont family members from Castlevania made it in too.
Since I'm going to buy a 3DS with my next paycheck. I'll probably get the 3DS version.
I actually am excited for this game. I can't freaking wait to see what and who they put in. :D
Why don't I find myself excited about this game? Maybe I will for the chance to battle you guys.
But will their online service be as bad as the Wii's? According to it, it's the online issue that discourages EA from further support with the Wii U.
Wait a second, it's not being made by.... That company that makes Kirby games (forgets what they are called). So this will be an entirely different kind of Smash Bros.
So apparently this game is being made by the same company responsible for other fighting titles such as Tekken, Soul Calibur, and Dragon Ball Z Budikai.... Interesting.
Will this game take elements that's already popular in these existing fighting games? Or will they stick it to the existing Kirbi style fighting that Smash Bros always was?
Update: Okay, it turns out that Sora, the company that's working on producing this game with NB is runned by the guy who created Kirbi and Smash Bros, so it's essentially going to be the same Smash Bros. but I'm curious to know NB's involvement in this title.
Yay, Oli is back.....the annoyance continues with fighting him.  >_<;
If Smash 4 eliminates DI that would be amazing so that way it's much easier to kill opponents.  lol...
So many more matches I could have reigned supreme in if that attribute didn't save them.  GAAAAHH!  Plus it would make Jigs work a LOT easier.
You're kidding, right? That'd defeat almost all competetive viability to the game.
Actually, DI works only because you are given control of your character in mid-air. If they remove that, it would make it harder for Jigs since she relies on free movement in the air. And not to mention, I kind of like the fact that you can use that movement to escape things. I see it as a reward for knowing how moves work. So, I'd rather they not even attempt to remedy it, since it has essentially become a part of Smash competitive play. Plus, it's not that big of a problem if you know what to do if the person does DI out of it.
P.S.: Jigs is the lightest character in the game and actually relies on DI and semi-momentum canceling. So you would actually be hindered as well. I don't know if you realize that you use DI and momentum canceling yourself. (points to one of the videos I have recorded.)
In the end, I think it's best if they do not remove DI.
