All I have to say is PLEASE for the love of all that is Zelda DO NOT give up on this quest. EVER. I've seen a lot of quests with amazing potential like this one subside and never get finished. PLEASE finish this. I'm telling you, this quest will probably be the legend of all quests up to the point of it's release.

It looks freaking awesome. Like I said, please keep it up. I love how you guys are focusing so much on story. In my honest opinion, a good quest can be without a story, but an amazing quest draws in the player, gives them emotions, plays with their feelings, and captures them in a good story that they'll want to play through again while also giving them a challenge and great gameplay. I really, honestly believe that this could be one of those amazing quests.

I'll be following until it's finish date. icon_wink.gif

Also, Nick, I hope all is well where you are. Hope the town recovers soon.

The quest system looks great.

Hope everything goes good with this quest! icon_smile.gif

We've been working on this for years (though it's probably a year of solid effort at this point). We also have multiple backups in different locations. So it would probably take something drastic to make us drop Fairy Dream at this point.

Still, thanks for the motivation boosts, everyone. They are appreciated. icon_smile.gif

In other news, except for one little thing, the critical content of the demo is finished. From this point, we will be doing touchup work and extras until the expo demo release.

I finally got to see the damage in person a few days ago (I live outside of town). It looks pretty terrible since the tornado went through the center of town and pretty much gutted it. It's probably going to take time to recover from that. icon_worried.gif

Thanks for being thoughtful about it.

So here is the deal.

Fairy Dream is ready for beta testing.

There are still some things that need to be done before the demo release, but the main bulk of what will be in the demo is ready and needs testing by people that are not Nick or LinktheMaster.

If you would like to help beta test Fairy Dream, please send a PM to LinktheMaster and/or myself. We would really appreciate it. icon_smile.gif

There is no set limit on the number of people we are accepting, but note that it probably won't be too many since we do want a surprise factor.

With that said, there are some things you should keep in mind if you want to express interest in testing this:
  • If you want to do it just to have an early demo release, then don't bother applying! The fact is that while this beta testing release will have most of the demo content, it's not going to have everything. It's not polished yet.
  • We want testers to comment on their gameplay experience. This includes whether you liked or hated various things (or the entire demo).
  • We want testers to purposely try to break the quest. While it's okay if you do a casual play through everything first (it would help with the previous point), we really need to make sure there are not any game breaking bugs and such as well.
  • The beta testing positions will only apply for this demo release. Sadly, LTM and I are not the fastest people in regards to making stuff. We are also planning to take a break for a bit after the demo release (probably for a month). Of course, if we do need testers in the future and you did a good job, we'll probably come to you first.
  • A single playthrough of the content in the beta will probably take 2-5 hours on your first try, depending upon how lucky you are and what you may or may not skip. Keep that in mind.
  • Beta testers need to be prompt! I'm sorry... but the ZC Expo submission is due on April 11th. That is less than two weeks from now. We are pretty much asking you to spend part of this weekend testing the quest.
  • Beta testers need at least ZC 2.50 RC3.

Beta testers will probably be chosen tomorrow night (Friday)... if people apply by then. I'm sorry this is so sudden, but we would like to have a good idea of what to fix by early next week so that we have time to actually fix it. icon_shrug.gif

Good luck with the beta testing. I don't know if you'll be able to get any results on such short notice (I sent out basically the same request like a week ago and only two people signed up and one of them it seems managed to forget he was beta testing my quest and basically just got it early). I'd love to test Fairy Dream, but I don't think I'll have the time this weekend.

Yeah. icon_frown.gif We were hoping to get things with the beta out a lot sooner, but unfortunately things didn't work out that way. icon_unsettled.gif So with the expo coming up, we've been left a bit rushed. So I definitely understand if people can't devote the time to beta test FD for us, especially to the degree in which we would like tested. If people are simply too busy, we understand. icon_smile.gif

Beta Testing applications have closed!

We would like to thank everyone that applied for beta testing Fairy Dream on such short notice. icon_smile.gif

There were more people than we expected, so we couldn't accept everyone. We're sorry we couldn't pick everyone, but that's unfortunately how things go sometimes. icon_shrug.gif

We've sent PMs to everyone that expressed interest. We really do want to thank you all for wanting to help out. icon_smile.gif

Update 6: Demo Release

DDR Joke

After a rigorous weekend of beta testing and bug fixing, LinktheMaster and I are proud to announce the early release of the Fairy Dream demo. It was a close call, but I think we've managed to pull things together for our expo warm-up.

Demo Notes:

There are some things you need to know before picking up the demo.
  • The quest will remind you on running it, but Press L+R+Start to save! The typical ZC saving method will not work with Fairy Dream and you may end up losing progress if you try to use it.
  • It's possible to skip some cutscenes by pressing start twice.
  • S. Town is currently a bit bare. We were not able to fit in all we wanted to fit into the demo due to time constraints. Still, there should be some things you can do there.
  • There are 8 heart container pieces you can find.
Download:

You need 2.50 RC3 to play this. With that said, we hope you enjoy the demo. icon_smile.gif

Next Update:

The next update will be one week from now on April 8th. icon_smile.gif

Good luck with that, don't get yourself killed! icon_razz.gif

In a meantime, I'm trying to do a death-run of this awesome demo!

Um, don't you mean a no-death run? Unless you plan on playing so that every enemy in the game gets a share in killing Link... Man, I feel sorry for the poor kid.

Anyways, I'll give it a try. I've been following this for a while, I'd love to see how everything works in motion.

*sigh*

I feel really bad now. A few of the reactions in the chatroom made us realize that people are seriously looking forward to this... and this is an incredibly dickish joke despite how obvious I thought it would be.

Yes.

That was a joke demo and I am ruining it less than 2 hours into its running.

The "demo" starts out with the actual intro and actual title screen. However, the intro is... long. I didn't realize that it's honestly too long for a joke like this. After the title screen, it quickly turns into a game of Dog Drug Reinforcement, otherwise known as a Dance Dance Revolution clone. This minigame appears in the actual quest.

With that said, it would be nice to know the average scores people can get with the DDR game since this score is somewhat important in the actual quest.

The actual update will be on April 2nd.

We deeply apologize for this. icon_sorry.gif

Dude that's not a cool April Fools joke pretending that your demo is an April Fools joke. icon_razz.gif

As for Dog Drug Reinforcement, it's like...way too fast. WAAAY too fast.
