last.fm has been telling me to listen to this band for quite a few years now, so I decided to finally do just that and, well yeah. What I'm actually listening to right now for the First Time Ever:

Similar artists include the Stone Roses and the Jam, so I suppose if you like either of those bands I suppose you're in for a treat. I'm listening to this album for this first time and it's... decent. I'm sort of trying to get around his voice and stuff. They had a hit in 1990 or so with "There She Goes", which is quite a nice song...

My taste happens to be for short-lived independent bands.
My friend has an awesome band, which I'm hoping won't die,
although it's not very alive these days if you know what I mean icon_frown.gif .

I really liked "The Advantage" but I think they are gone now. Their
second album is on iTunes.

I'm also a big fan of "The Protomen" and "Makeup And Vanity Set"
all of their albums are on iTunes and they both seem to be staying alive (pun unintentional).

Catherine Wheel - I Want to Touch You [Ferment, 1992]

Listening to this album for the first time. It's pretty good so far even though I'm only like 2 songs in.

Warning: entry-level hipster content ahead. Proceed at the cost of your soul.

The Antlers - Sylvia (Hospice, 2009)

Emotionally, one of the most challenging albums I've ever listened to. This is the third song from the album (which is best listened to together, because it does tell a story), but it's probably the song I'd choose to expose someone to the album and convince them to listen to it (which is what I'm doing!).

Cocteau Twins - Cherry-Coloured Funk (Heaven or Las Vegas, 1990)

I fell in love with this song within the first twenty seconds of hearing it for the first time. Elizabeth Fraser's vocals are pretty much godly.

Beetles and eggs and blues and pour a little everything elseeee

Rob Dickinson's voice annoys me a bit though. It reminds me of a wailing dog.

Lithium linked me this somehow and it's actually quite incredible. Reminds me a lot of "Slipping (Into Something)" by the Feelies...
