or try it in the other versions to see if it works at all. I doubt it will work well, but it might be playable. I've only tested it in the only version I can run. I found a tile error yesterday. it's between the end screen and the one before it. not a big deal, but an error, nonetheless.

no, I cannot. I can only run 1.90. old computers don't run new versions and new computers don't run old versions. maybe there is a happy middle ground for this stuff, but I have an old PC and my Mac is one step below the necessary operating system for ZC/ZQ. this is not likely to change any time soon.

I like 1.90 quests. icon_wink.gif

Anyways, I've played this up to the grassy area, which I assume is the end of the demo.
Excellent job on this so far. I'm really enjoying it!

Question: After destroying the spider is there anyway to get the flower-like thing? Also, do you get anything by killing the birds and its nest?

thank you. the flowers are just scenery. the birds require the shovel or sword to beat, so that's for another time. there will be a certain level of backtracking on the "front nine of the course." the birds will eventually require backtracking for an item/upgrade. I appreciate your response. I'm not sure I believe it is at any level resembling "excellent" (yet), but I do hope to get it there. any additional comments, especially criticism/critiques would likely be helpful in development. there is a menu "window" at the beginning and end of the demo. the demo ends when you kill Waldo (not exactly well-hidden in the sequel's demo, are you, Waldo?) and get the shovel. if you have anything at all more to say, please respond. thanks, again.

is the demo being played through 2.5 on a Mac.

2.5 gives away my sneaky way of giving out multiple triforce pieces in the overworld and it adds an extra death burst to the dodongo, but it handles this 1.90 quest fairly well, otherwise. the player got half of the available triforce pieces. I wasn't expecting the shovel to actually get used -- it was really supposed to be the end point. anyway, check it out and get psyched up for my projects! feel free to leave comments here based solely on the video; it is a decent representation of the experience you would have. if you want to go all out, try the demo in 1.90.

Not being able to get a better computer is a sad thing. icon_cry.gif I bought a decent Acer computer with Windows 7 in it just a few weeks ago. Without a monitor, it costed around $400 (or $500.) A computer is a way better investment than a game console. It is a gift that keeps on giving.

Do any of your friends have a powerful computer that can handle the most recent version of 2.5? If one of them does, then that could be a very good thing. 2.5 allows for the usage of layers, custom sound effects, more colors for tiles, scripting, custom enemies, and custom items. I will use the most recent version of 2.5 for my quests.

You can also download free music from the site Free Music Archives. That site is legal by the way. I recommend songs made by the Spectral Mystics group. icon_awesome.gif

I will see if I can play your demo. Thing is, Filedropper just deleted your most recent version. Do not use Filedropper, as that site did the same thing to something I uploaded to it. Use Data File Host instead, as that site will hold onto your files better (and it too is free.)

I have no strong desire to spend money on a computer while I have two that work and have cost me under $100 combined, parts included (and excluding electricity, for sure). 2.5 looks like fun, but I can barely handle what I've already got going on. layers are the thing. the rest is negligible, but nice. does 2.5 have a quest rule option to have enemies travel over instead of under items?

anyway, I got a fresh link: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=XLCQZV10

now that a somewhat workable laptop running Windows 7 has joined the family of barely useful computers around here, this quest is going to have to be upgraded and updated. it will benefit from layers, enemy edits and other options... maybe even scripting. this post serves as notice to any interested parties that I am seeking collaboration, help, guidance, etc. I hereby ask for your skilled assistance. not much of substance has happened with this file in far too long, but it is not abandoned. join us in its renewal!

edit: my idea today gives the structure a plot of sorts. I have it set to continue to distribute one completion symbol per layer of screens working up one side of a mountain. upon reaching the top with a completed token, the hero accesses a dreamcastle in the clouds and defeats the main enemy who has tapped underground volcanic action to spew death and destruction far and wide. the hero must race down the other side and access a system of caverns to find a way to shut it down. maybe one way is easier and suicidal and another way is harder but allows the hero to survive. it would require some scripting, so I would absolutely need a skilled partner in making that happen.

also, opening up the file space in 2.5 will allow for the scenes to be scenic in that they could essentially be pixelated photographs with walkable paths. does anybody reading this think they know how to accomplish such a fete? I do not, but I'm pretty sure it's within the realm of what is possible. I would like to learn. I'm pretty sure I could handle the recoloring and the screen assembly, but I have never imported a single tile into ZC. please reach out and offer to work with me.

watched this: http://www.youtube.c...h?v=ylmyYz5X6fo and learned what I would do if I had files to import. that was helpful. grab. duh.

With 2.5 RC3, tiles can now have 8-bit color, which allows them to use most of the entire main pallete (using row 14 might be a bad idea.)

I looked up Homestar Runner and I don't see the correlation at all. thanks for the comments!

They also made something called Peasant's Quest:

Have a look around for a couple of minutes and you'll see the relation. icon_redface.gif
