A.) I thought it looked pretty cool, actually
B.) Do we know it is a full scale boss?? It looks like it was being fraught in a field, not a dungeon. It seemed like more of a mini-boss
C.) Presumably, this demo is from an area early on in the game...so expect bigger and badder later on
A.) Now that I watch it further, I think the point is to use exact slices to cut the eye a certain way. But I hope they don't try to force that with every monster; that's just gimmicky to me.
B.) Well, if the dungeons are more "natural" like the rumors suggest, then this would make sense, but, eh, I dunno. Could be right.
C.) Well... yeah, yeah you're right. icon_razz.gif

Agreed. Hopefully the early enemies are sort of teaching you the sword mechanics...like a tutorial built into the game...but later I would want it to be more natural. I am sure the sword mechanics will be integral to all of the combat, but hopefully it doesn't feel so forced as you get further on.

Also, hopefully there are at lease some enemies you can just slash away at and the angle doesn't matter. Please.

Woops. My bad. Sorry, Sir Evan. >_>

I think the boss looks fine for a first boss, though I hope it's name isn't some variation of "Gohma." o3o

Woah. In the second video, Link seemed to run up a wall right before he entered a door, and a few other times. New parkour moves? icon_eek.gif

A little Prince of Persia, anyone?

I might actually buy another Wii just to play this.

An interesting interview with Eiji Aonuma on Skyward Sword, etc.

I found this bit to be exactly right. Even if Nintendo moves to a post-PS3, super powerful HD console, I want Zelda's art style to be stylized. Here is Eiji:

"And another thing I just thought of is that for Twilight Princess we made a more realistic Link, but with the fantasy realm if the art style is too realistic it really narrows down what you can do and still feel like what you're doing still fits within that world. I want to make sure that some of the crazier elements still fit within the game world, and aren't breaking that world view -- so sometimes it's better not to be so realistic. Sometimes we need that exaggeration to implement the elements that are more outlandish and could only fit within the realm of fantasy. I think there are a lot of games out there that are super-realistic, and I've never felt that Zelda really fits into the same category as those games. "

Nintendo Developer Roundtable Blog. Contains more info on Skyward Sword, along with other stuff. Including the story outline:

Spoiler

So the sword girl rumors were correct, it seems. Also, later on, there is a comment that the HUD is still a work in progress, and that the onscreen controller was added specifically for E3. Plus, orchestrated music!

Staff Edit: Hope you don't mind, I just put it in spoiler tags for people who don't want the story spoiled yet but would like to keep up with the thread.

Well, I think this game looks awesome. Being the huge Zelda fan I am, I never disliked any of the Zelda games, including Spirit Tracks, which a lot of people disliked. So, I think I'll love this game. My only problem is gettin a hold of a Wii...

Just letting people know, as a rule of thumb, may be good to use spoiler tags in the future if it's something plot-related or major to the game as such- there are people who just want to keep up with the information by the trailer that's been seen so far and by others' opinions. And no, I'm not picking on Sir Evan either, I'm just throwing this out there.

At any rate, it looks pretty dang schweet, and I'm in love with the art style. We all know I love the Wind Waker style, and combining it with OoT's was no bad decision, it seems.

I just wanted to let you know that you're not entirely right about saying many people disliked Spirit Tracks icon_razz.gif

When I was writing for GameReactor, I reviewed the game and it got a solid 10 out of 10 from me, and it is to this day my favorite game in the series. On Gamerankings, a site in which they pull ratings from lots of gaming sites, the game has a rating of 86.92%, which is a GREAT rating seeing as it's based on over 50 reviews. To put it more simply, here's some other details:
http://www.gameranki...s/articles.html

Ranges from 8 to 10, with the occasional trip down to 7. That's not bad. icon_razz.gif Sadly, Gamerankings don't pull details and ratings from Norwegian gaming magazines, so my own 10 isn't there.,Oh, and Edge Magazine giving it an 8 is REALLY good... they're strict as hell when it comes to ratings.

Just saying, Spirit Track wasn't hated by a lot of people... it's just that those people who do hate it (because they can't forget how they didn't like PH, and won't realize that they made lots and lots of improvements to it) are a lot more outspoken and loud about it. Spirit Tracks was a great game through and through, and it didn't have anything "bad" about it... if you don't like it, it's at least not because of the game being bad, and more likely to have something to do with the way you're looking at it.

Blah, sorry for going off topic, but I really love Spirit Tracks, and I wanted to show it icon_razz.gif

Also, has anyone seen this gameplay video? http://www.gametrail...-skyward/700266

I think Radien asked if there's a jump attack in the game, and you can see it in that video. Also, someone was worried about all enemies having some kind of "sword tactic" to them... in this video there's enemies that you can slash however you'd like, so it's all good icon_smile.gif Oh, and we have a vertical spin-attack now :3

The new Zelda might as well have been released on Gamecube. The Wii is basically just a Gamecube with a motion controller, which is vastly inferior to a standard controller for a game like Zelda.
Except a Wii is capable of better textures D: They don't have to use as tiny textures then stretch them across a surface, this alone dramatically improves the visuals >.> go play Monster Hunter 3: Tri for some brilliant visuals you didn't think were possible or Metroid Prime 3.

It was a very massive no brainer the interfaces were not finished and that the controller visual thing was for the demo, also the stinger on the boss is probably for Hero Mode and not Normal Mode.

Nintendo haven't confirmed different difficulty settings, and the rumors which stated that has been proved to be a hoax, even though they got some right, but that's only luck. Also, I've seen the boss (or miniboss) use the stinger in multiple videos. icon_wink.gif

I'll tell you one thing I wish would happen, even though I know it's 99% certain that it won't: I wish they'd let you select which hand Link uses. icon_frown.gif I'm left-handed, and I'm unhappy to see default Link finally using his right hand.

This would have been possible on TP Wii. Sword swings could have been assigned to the nunchuk, and the shield could have been assigned to the remote.

But now that the remote uses 1:1 sword motion, the nunchuk can't support it. So the remote will have to be the sword no matter what.

I know what a lot of you righties are thinking. "Why not use the Wii remote in your left hand?" Well, think about it: that means using my right hand to operate the analog stick. I have been using my left hand for motion controls for over 20 years. It is NOT easy to switch hands for that. My right thumb is extremely clumsy when it comes to analog.

Sigh, oh well. One way or another I'll adapt. After all, I learned to use a mouse with my right hand. I'm probably more ambidextrous than most of you righties, if only from practice. icon_razz.gif

Things I like:
•It isn't first person (although it would be neat if that were an option that you could switch on and off)
•It doesn't look drastically changed like I was expecting it to.
Things I don't like:
•They sort of mixed wind waker and twilight princess with the graphics and...it doesn't look that hot...
•It isn't looking like its gonna have gamecube control compatibility.

With you on the second, but not on the first. I really actually love these graphics. Well, I admit, the first glance of Link's new model kinda threw me for a loop, but then I saw it in action and loved it. And it can only get better as they polish it up, so, we'll see.

I totally know how you feel, Radien. ^^'

Anyway, I wasn't very impressed with the game when I first saw it, but now that I look at all the intricacies of the game mechanics and all (and pardon Miyamoto's "technical difficulties"), I appreciate it a lot more! I saw some "true" gameplay, with some pro behind the remotes, and he was slashin' up those bokoblins (spelling?) like nobody's business!

And, I did see that run-jump up walls business... awesome, I say!

I think the scorpion is more of a mid-boss. Personally, I'd never reveal a boss before release (at least, as a demo. Maybe pics or strategy, but not a demo). And, I don't think Nintendo would either.

Beetle, nifty. Bomb-bowling, nifty swifty. Dashing, finally. Speed-hopping-over-walls, finally finally. Link wearing not-tights, plus. Link wearing Persian-pants, plus plus.

The only thing I can say is that I hope I don't look to doofus-y swingin' my arms around trying to hit guys above Link's head! lol
