Question: In Level 7 you used the lantern to lit up a circle around link how did you do it? Oh and by the way nice quest sure I have a go.

The lantern is actually the lens of truth hiding layer 6 (the layer with the darkness overlay on it). I'm pretty sure somewhere in the database I saw a script for an actual lantern item with the inverse circle light.

My current question: how should I go about working on the dark world?

I currently have seven levels planned. Should I make only 3 or 5 instead to speed things up?

If you've got 7 planned do it. I'm sure we can all wait a little longer for more gameplay.

Hey guys. I got bad news. This project is currently on hold for the following reasons:
-Finals
-Summer (gotta enjoy it while it lasts)
-Currently test playing Seasoned Blood which of course overrides EVERYTHING because I'm loving it so much

Sorry for the hold-up, but its a rather busy time of year. Once finals are done, I'll probably resume, but hey! I have a life too. As usual suggestions and commentary are much welcome! icon_biggrin.gif

Update: Now that finals are over, I've been working on this again.

I just had to show off my newest dungeon, since I love it so much!

Introducing: The Disco Palace! This place will play an important role in the good ending, because as well as collecting 7 fragments of the final boss' soul, you need to get through this dungeon to open the way to the real final dungeon. It may seem like a long quest, but the levels are fairly short. I'm just lazy is all.

Do the multi-colored floor tiles change colors?

Also, I'm looking forward to it. I can't wait to play it. icon_thumbsup.gif

As a matter of fact, they do. Maybe I should slap on a seizure warning somewhere?

I've been having trouble coming up with themes and gimmicks for the dark world dungeons, so be prepared for a rather boring and uninspired dungeon or two...

What I have so far:
Bramble Swamp:
A level filled with poisonous puddles and hookshot puzzles and Patras. There's one room in particular that I think I should fix because its too hard.

Unseen Evil:
A dungeon with a cave setup. It introduces the new Digdogger Tribble enemy (quite annoying). It also has a couple areas where the enemies are invisible.

Overgrown Fort:
A basic forest dungeon. Not much special here.

At the end of each dark world dungeon, the Soul Fragment you collect will merge with one of your items making it more powerful. Hopefully this will make up for the rather uninspired dungeons... (although I find Bramble Swamp and Overgrown Fort to be visually appealing at least)

Hey, don't just taunt us by telling us how visually appealing they are! Give us some screenshots! icon_razz.gif

How thoughtless of me! Here you go:
IPB Image
The entrance to the final dungeon: Chaospire. I tried to get those custom tiles right, but somehow think I failed... Suggestions?
IPB Image
Bramble swamp. This level took me HOURS just to set up. Considering how short these levels are, I consider that a long time. I like how the bramble overhang turned out though.
IPB Image
I recently added this effect to dungeon entrances (level 7 was a pain to set up due to the Light/Dark theme). Thoughts?
IPB Image
Introducing: Dark World Level 2: Shadows of Evil. (faces of evil? lol) I really don't feel that this dungeon is all that interesting. The main theme is that the dungeon item (its the only dark world dungeon that has an item so far) is completely optional. You can go straight to the boss without picking up the Amulet or any keys (although you may regret it later).
IPB Image
This dungeon's palette took a while to set up. I think I did OK on it. I tried to mix a forest, fortress, and water level theme. Fun fact: It was originally called Overgrown Crypt, but the music I had chosen was too happy for a crypt.

This thread really makes me want to make a quest. Then I remember how that ends...
Of course it is summer and I have a lot of free time.

Keep up the good work! Those screens looks great and I'm really excited about this one.

That first screen looks great. Nice tile work! I love those vines on the second screen. Third screen, a bit bland. Fourth, good. Fifth, hardly counts as classic tileset anymore. icon_razz.gif Great work on all of them.

Heh. Believe it or not, I started this whole thing with classic. Then I started modifying palettes and importing tiles from other sets as well as adding some new custom tiles and modifying old ones. All in all, I think the results were worth the time it took. Maybe when I'm done, I'll organize it and make it an official tileset... I've got a lot of boss music I'm dying to use, so I guess I'm either gonna have a multi form final boss or add more bonus dungeons...

Something that's bugging me is that the two types of trees from the bottom shot both came from the same tileset, but clash in perspective. I'm a rather bad tile artist, so I can't fix it though...

You could rip in the edited Gameboy trees from the DoR set. I think that will fix the perspective issue. You might have to take out some of the colors, though.
