Here is a section of a map of my cave right before Level 1 in my Princess' Amethyst quest:

If you would like to see more about this, check out the update to my quest project in the following link: http://www.purezc.ne...showtopic=65875

Thanks! :)

Officially started with the revamping, as you see. I spent alot of time just editing and adding in new tiles that I'll be using to help with it, which is why it's taken so long with little to show. I've already done and added in more than what I'm showing in this screenshot, but I wanted to show and get people's opinions and thoughts on what I am doing here as I want to use this gradient idea in more areas, as well as add in more natural cliffs (that are not mountains)

@DaviAwesome Really neat cave you got there! Looks like it will be really fun to go through :D

@Limebeer Looks pretty cool, and I do see what you're trying to do here. Though one thing I do need to point out...

This section looks a bit odd, especially with the grass transition underneath it.

Ahh, yeah I totally missed that! Originally there I wasn't having the lower levels and forgot to change the tile used! Thankyou for pointing that out!
I'm going to be using this in a few other areas, though I'll try not to over use it.
I just hope that for the next few things that I'll be doing will need less tiles modified... it was annoying to have to reedit so many just to make the gradients levels there.. :badrazz:

As you see in the first image, I fixed the green transition that shouldn't have been there as well as added in some tall grass. I am also thinking on changing and/or getting rid of the lower grey mountain/hill where the heart piece is and replacing it with something else, or atleast changing the shape or something. haven't decided yet, I'll see how the other changes goes and if i need the space or not.

For the second image, I removed some "under construction" houses in order to have more room to add in more stuff for the overworld, though I may need some ideas for it. I was thinking of using some forest tops to lead into a wooded area which will be the entrance to level 4, which will be in the blue area at the bottom right there (originally where my level 5 tower was to be). I'll be changing the shoreline there to accommodate of course, so don't worry on if you have an idea and worry about landspace because of it. I'll still have under construction houses, just in a different screen to give the village more planned order rather than the haphazard layout it currently has.

Spoiler

here's my updated map sofar. I've added in more gradients and cliff sides.
Also, as you can see, i am currently working in the bottom right of my map where the town is and it will transit into the forest area where level 4 will be located.
The upper left area/top is where I'll be putting in the second town. It's blank as I have yet to come up with a proper design for it.
And finally, I intentionally have the very bottom left area (stormy area) a bit lighter due to how I set up the lightning in that area to not only brighten the screen but also go completely black for a few frames an thought it would be way too hard to fight the enemies there (it's an overworld mini-boss fight basically for an item upgrade) so I made the layer transparent to allow the fight to be unimpeded.

Biggest advice I'd ask for at the moment is whether or not I've chosen somewhat appropriate palettes (this is apparently a big issue with the gameboy tileset?) Any tips on the screen design would be nice as well. =)

By the way, I'm well aware that that one bridge in the town is wonky. I've decided it's just slanting up.

None of your bridges stand out to me really. Also, the palettes look fine for Gameboy. I *think* the issues come in the fact that you have what appear to be non-level csets displayed in the night area. so they're still bright red. Even then, its not that big a deal.

Also, not a critcism of what you have, which works btw, but something to consider: since the area on the left is (or appears to be) set at night, why not experiment a little with the water? Nothing else that I can see uses that blue, and while it works fine as it is...    maybe it can be darkened as well? after all, water's only blue to reflect the sky.

The flowers are just using CSet 2. The mailbox and the butterflys use non-level CSets, but the mailbox is a special object (save station) so I'm okay if it stands out, and the butterflies look okay I think. The forest isn't really meant to be set at night; it's just darker, but you make a good point about the water. It seems quite a bit brighter than everything else. I'll try messing around with the blues in the palette to see if I can make it fit a bit better.

Looks very nice! I like the FF feel to this map. My suggestion would probably be to add in some detail to the ocean to make it look nicer, however if you are trying to go for an authentic FF-style map, then it's fine the way it is.

Fuck that's so hot!

I've been eager to show this to you guys. Presenting Hylian Legacy's Mountain Base. This is the first area Link will explore before he actually climbs Drifa Mountains. Since Drifa Mts. is a snowy region, sometimes the snow drifts off of its heights unto the Mountain Base. This area is home to a dangerous group of monsters known as the Mons Gang, a band who terrorizes Drifa Village that's on the north. Also, I might just add some sort of cave system here. While it might look small, remember it's the base. You will still need to climb the peak of it to find all of the Mountain's secrets :).

Suggestions? Feedback? Criticism? Haters gonna hate? :P

EDIT: Sometimes I'm too stupid to realize what the heck is wrong with my palettes. Thanks for recent feedback to fix the Eye Burning Yellow rocks :)

Aside from the yellow rocks that stick out quite badly, it's awesome. Definitely has that transition feel.

I really like how it looks. It's incredible, and the transition to the snow is really well done. The only thing that sticks out badly for me are the yellow rocks; they don't blend in with the surroundings. Otherwise, great job! :)

Thanks! And I just fixed the shot, thanks for pointing that "I overlooked that thing! OMG!" flaw :)

Thanks as well man! As said, I think I got the right color to fix that ;) (I might even make it a bit darker).
