A screenshot of a recently designed area in Destiny of the Oracles that's going to be a dungeon with sections in the overworld. And underwater.

My biggest complaint is that there's no really good way to show water inside that hole in the ship without creating a brand new tile specifically for that. And I really would rather avoid having to do that.

Custom ship tiles by PrinceMSC from the database.

that would be a really easy tile to make. maybe change the sail's color, too.

Is that a volunteer I hear? In case you missed it, I am not good at making my own sprites and will often skip doing that entirely until I am absolutely forced to.

As for the color of the sail, I just had the same color as was in the original tile submission. I could change it, but I'm not sure what I want it to be myself if I did.

The screen looks pretty sweet, but the palette of the ship bothers me. Your options may be limited, but if you could find a palette with better wood colors, that would improve the look of the ship.

I am aware of the style clash. I don't really mind it at all. If someone has more classic-styled NPCs let me know.

Actually, FlameCursed, I think you can make that sprite work like Moosh's sprites in Link's Adventure for the Hookshot 2. Replace the white with a skin-tone, red with a brighter red and black with a dark red. As long as you avoid using black in Classic tiles and sprites, they can mesh with the style somewhat OK.

you know, I'd be glad to, if it was something I knew how to do. I have absolutely no concept of how to import/export tiles, so I just always end up drawing my own. all you'd be doing is, what, making a slight modification to the tiles directly below the hole and maybe adding some wave action to the black hole tiles, right? ah, but all of that stuff is animated by the color set, right? never mind, then! it isn't as basic as I was thinking. it doesn't look bad how it is... just not quite... uh... correct. the sail, though -- maybe the two tones of green you seem to have available, using the lighter one where the blue is and the darker one where the brown edges are.

oh, or the fish lips/big rock colors... those would help it stand out from the water, too.

I did a quick example of how GB NPCs could be converted to Zelda 1 style...

3HC4FQA.png

(The key is to remove as much outline as possible.)

Maybe I could apply this to all GB NPCs... would be a pretty big and daunting task though... As for the screen: It looks nice. The random white highlights on the floor are weird.

I try to avoid changing the palette of an entire area unless I really have to. I'll look at the other CSets in that palette and see if I can find something more suitable. And if that doesn't work, I may switch it to 8-bit.

To export a tile, go to the tile page and click the button labeled export. It creates a screenshot of that page, which can then be imported by someone else into their quest. To import, open a tile page; select the spot you wish to import to and click grab. You can use shift to grab more than one tile at a time.

I'll experiment with some other colors for the sail and see how it turns out.

thanks, but the ZQuest I use is so limited for space to hold tiles/sprites that it has yet to come up.

Alternate wood grain texture for the front of the ship.

tkrdkkG.png

And another ship, in a lighter set of colors.

FTxbhhJ.png

Personally, I like the darker look over the lighter; but only for the first ship. The second looks better lighter to me.

Edit: I should note that in the original tiles I ripped, the wood was actually green for the horizontal ship. No idea why.

Now I've gotten started on my new project. Here's a screen:

Naughty Link! Stop looking in other people's mailboxes!

How does it look?

Does the subscreen look okay? It's just something I threw together last minute.

The subscreen is eh.  Not terrible, but not quite right.  A less vibrant blue would be a better choice for the background.  Certainly looks better than most of my subscreens though.

As for the screen itself, its actually a pretty excellent GB screen.  I don't have much to suggest other than perhaps adding a little more detail to the upper left.
