It looks very nice Sheik! You inspired me with your map and I opened up ZQuest, but then I realized that I don't know how to make those mountains and I gave up.

Indeed, it looks very nice. I'm guessing you're kinda doing a Zelda 1 meets A Link To The Past sorta thing? That's the impression I'm getting. Either way, it looks great. Keep up the good work!

Ah, you should try again! If you are having trouble with the mountains a good way to practice and get the hang of is try and rebuild screens other people made. The mountains I am using here, however, don't come with a premade tileset so you may be talking about the other mountains, the actual proper LttP mountains.

Yes, that's pretty much what it is. I am debating whether or not I should have a Dark World, too. I would like that obviously, but I would need an entire mountain and tree set edited into the scaling I work with and I don't see myself comitting to that. So I was thinking about having the overworld plus a 8x8 Realm of the Heavens and hence throw in some tMC/FS/FSA (epsecially FSA) vibes, too. Adding a sky world would also give me a reason to put these old EoA maps to use again...

I'd personally go with the sky overworld idea. It's more original than a Dark World, which have honestly been done to death, in both official Zelda games, and fan games. That's just my thought on it, anyways. I'm also a sucker for sky levels in games, so there's that bias...

I finished all but three screens of the Lost Woods and added the Fairy Springs. I also changed other things around a little and edited the palette slightly, but that's all very minor stuff.

Spoiler

I may not touch this the next few days. I have been working on it pretty excessively (I really have: I just happen to be slow at this stuff) and I don't feel as motivated to finish it right now.

I guess for the sake of being transparent with my work on Skype and Discord groups, I'll post it here too. Here's the rest of the swamp and here's a village. Note some small oversights (the leaf piles) have been fixed.

Edit: Start of an area currently called "Pyrowoods." That's it for today.

Lookin' good, Shane. The map is almost done, too!

Got a copy of Theryan's Newfirst tileset to play around with. I remade one of my old GB screens to get a feeling for the tileset:

Cheers!

Looks great! Not a huge fan of Newfirst but the edits look great and the screen design is flawless.

Also on a side-note, I'm very close to finishing my overworld now. This will technically be the first overworld I complete in its entirety, after so many years. Kinda sad to be a bit honest. No preview until I finish it up. Project announcement? Maybe once the overworld is fully functional and a title screen is made.

I don't know why NewFirst gets/got so much hate; its really just an upgraded GB set with some LttP mixed in. Once you create some of your own custom palettes it's a great starting point to make a quest with. I think it might just be because of all the noobs who used it incorrectly to make 0 Star rating quests.

It has much less style clashing going on than most other hybrid tilesets, as well. I really like that about it. Well, and it has this oldschool Zelda Classic look, too.

Oh so a couple more of my opinions on this map (which I'm loving btw!):
-Put the sign on top of the Tavern in Kakariko Village.

-In the original Z1 the third sword is found in the graveyard, which is now Kakariko Village; the screen with Blind The Thief's house. Would be cool to put the Smithy's house at the bottom of this screen and you can get the 3rd sword upgrade in there.

-The wooden hut roofs in Kakariko look like the've got some colour loss and could use that darkest shade of brown you've got available to you.

-The small rocks (usually found in the water) that you're using as ground detail have colour loss too. Compare them to the water versions that have the correct shading.

- In that first desert screen you've done, I'd limit the Palm Trees to two different colours on each screen. So some might have green and orange trees, some green and red, some orange and red etc. Seems like a bit too much going on with all three on one screen. And I'd move one of the trees to the bottom of the screen because it seems very top heavy at the moment.

-On the tree thing, maybe the Lost Woods could have a few random red tree's here and there to mix up the monotony of the orange.

-The shallow water river that leads up to the waterfall and the location of the Level 2 sword really reminds me of Zora's Domain in OoT, was that intentional? I can also see how you're going for the LttP vibe of the graveyard next to or near the Sanctuary. So it makes sense that if you're getting the Master-sword there, that the sword is inside a Temple (of Time?). But I feel like you could instead turn this into the entrance to Zora's Domain, move the Temple of Time/Sanctuary somewhere else. Just an idea you could maybe play with anyways.

Thanks for the thorough feedback, Bourky. I'll reply to some of the points you've made:

The Smithy's House is on the screen west of the castle. That's where you will eventually be able to have the sword upgraded. It is outside of Kakariko Village like it was outside of the village in LttP, too. Sure, it is in a different spot, but it's the spot of where originally there was a shop in Z1, too. (The shop in the Outset hills is in a shop location, too. The Fortune Teller house is where there Info Lady was living in Z1 and Syrup's house is the one south of the Smithy's House. Syrup was gonna get a hut, but the big tree house didn't look very agreeable on screen to me. So she got a proper house.) As for the house of Blind the thief, I might hide some Master Ore in his ...hideout. Though the main purpose of it is to serve as a mini dungeon to open the entrance to L6 later on.

The desert is meant not to feel too much like a desert. I'll try to make it a desert/beach situation. It always seemed weird to me to stuff in a 2x2 desert area right atop the eastern woods so I will merge it with the beach areas that it connects with anyways.

As for the Zora's domain feel of the passage that leads up to the Sanctuary: I wasn't aware of that, but I can see it. I will have it stay as is, though, I think. Optionally the Sanctuary could go near Kakariko Village or to the Lost Woods, but I want to play it a part similar to the Temple of Time from OoT, so I like the "special" place it got.

As for the screendesign and color-loss thoughs: thank you, too. I will fix things around and see how it turns out.

Edit: Implemented some of your suggestions (also, with the grid you can check out how the map looks screen by screen):
