Thanks! Yeah, if you take the LttP Hyrule you don't have a castle town either (unless you count Kakariko). So that's kind of the idea.
Edit: Here's more progress on the map:

I find it rather amusing given the general tone of the Zelda series that the Royal Family live in a big beautiful castle while just a few meters away from their doors, the common people literally live in dirt.
Beautiful map, though. Part of an actual quest we'll be able to play through eventually?

You are right, heh. Maybe the game will end with Princess Zelda on the guillotine while Link is leading the revolution. Oh, and all dialogue is sung like it was some kind of musical, think Les Misérables. That would be something new at least.
Ahem. Yeah, it is this idea of a Zelda 1 remake I have had for the ...past ten years almost, wow. So maybe you'll get a demo in ten more years or something? Fingers crossed.

I've had the same problem wanting to recreate Z1 in Firebird for the better part of a year now. Every once in a while I'll open the quest file, look at the twenty-something screens I've already made, then realize that I don't feel like working on it that day. Maybe one day we'll be competing to see whose vaporware quest is the better one. :tard:

For lack of a decent LttP tileset I am using Pure Remembrance: it has most of the LttP stuff that I want to use. A bunch of the tiles are custom or edited, though.

Very nice, good job. Much less crowded than my stuff usually turns out in GB, I dig that.

Thanks! Your GB work has always inspired me and I hope to create a spiritual successor of that wonderful GB map you did a while back. I got simple, modest plans for this quest. If this was all made in a single day, hopefully I can finish this within two weeks, or a month. Making this map so far has been really fun.

If you run dry on design ideas go ahead and copy some of my designs, they are free to use for anybody. Mine in turn were based off the BS Zelda overworld in case of this map you are talking about.

Love the edits you've done to those huts/houses to LttP-ify them! Not sure I'm a fan of the big dead tree though, could use a bit more work.

Found an old quest I never got around to finishing, and decided I might make a graphically updated version of it. Here's what I have after recreating the first screen (original on the left, newer on the right):

Any suggestions?

I love them both. Obviously the one of the right is much better than the one on the left. ![]()
