I was bored, and feeling very nostalgic the other day, so I started watching the original Pokemon series for the first time in forever. The show really isn't anything special like we all thought it was back in the 90's, but it's pretty decent entertainment to throw on when you're bored. Plus, I love the world of Pokemon, and the anime does a pretty good job with bringing it to life, despite getting things completely wrong from time to time. I'll probably continue watching through Johto just to relive my childhood, then, I'll move on to more sophisticated stuff.

I tried doing that, my little brother got interested, and I told him I'd try watching it with him if we started from the beginning. Couldn't do it, too many episodes where nothing happens. I found a list online of what episodes to watch so you got the condensed plot. You skip every episode where Ash + Co (including Team Rocket) don't catch/evolve/release a pokemon, get a Badge/compete in a Contest/League, meet a recurring character, or do something that DIRECTLY correlates to any of the previous. (i.e. Needs to do something to be allowed to get a Badge)

That was much more manageable, and cuts the series down a surprising lot. There is a LOT of filler on this show, even more than you'd expect. (and yes, I say that knowing that anybody who knows this show knows of the amount of filler. There is that much, and MORE!)

As mentioned before, Kiznaiver was a show I was going to check out, and it just aired. Its first episode is... interesting and somewhat confusing, but I'm intrigued. There's a ditzy girl who has the potential to be very annoying, and the in-universe premise seems shaky, but they could make it work. Hopefully it turns out well. I'm gonna keep with it.

Then there's yet another, Sakamoto desu ga? I found a gif from this show that amused me, Moosh actually watched it and said it was humorous, so I decided to give it a look. It's about this guy (who resembles Hideo Kojima I swear) who's considered the coolest kid in school, so cool that other jealous classmates try to mess with him only to continually fail miserably. It was actually fairly amusing and I laughed a couple times. Definitely keeping up with this.

help I'm watching seven anime at once

I honestly don't mind the filler too much. Some episodes are pretty silly and pointless, but I guess I'm kind of attached to a lot of them since I watched them when they were brand new. Plus, it's fun to watch these old episodes, and go, "Oh yeah, that was a thing." I totally forgot that they freakin' sunk the S.S. Anne in the anime. And the episode with the giant Pokemon? Classic. I do kinda roll my eyes whenever they make something up for the anime that doesn't exist in the games, but you've gotta do a lot of finagling to turn a video game into a full-length television show with multiple seasons.

I just watched "Bye Bye Butterfree"... Got some major feels in my heart region. Goddammit, I said I wasn't going to cry...

There's a completely new anime not based on a manga that came out this month, and it's pretty good so far.  It's called Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress.  It's a mix of The Walking Dead and Steamboy.  It's made by the director that did Death Note and Attack on Titan.  If anyone's interested in post-apocalyptic animes, you might give this one a try.

Am watching that. Didn't realize it was the same director as those two shows, just the same studio. But now that I know this tidbit, I'm even more apprehensive; his directing works considered good were manga adaptations, but the only original anime he directed (up until Kabaneri that is) was a show called Guilty Crown, one that I've heard is terrible. And the first episode of Kabaneri was full of holes. Gulp.

I'm giving it a chance.  I'm a nut for steampunk, so I want to like this.  At least the visuals are nice.  We'll see if that wasn't just their "dump all budget on first episode to make people want to keep watching" shtick.

I once tried rewatching Pokemon with increased speed but even like that the plot is far too empty. Btw, the Bye, Bye Butterfree is always the first episode I remember if thinking about good pokemon episodes ;)

I think the early Pokemon series was (for little children) pretty nice, the story around friendship and a lot of small but interesting background storys for all the pokemon, I especially liked the first movie and Jessie/James, but I honestly can't stand how his Pokemon and best buddys are switched out in any new season. Same with Digimon (not that they have much in common), though I cannot really rate the actual seasons since my interest has gone down to zero

[Edit] Finished half of Gurren Laggan and am quiet disappointed. It is still pretty good, but I dislike how they just add Nia to avoid resolving the Team-Problems and how the Team (grown man) is all over her (little girl) in the swumsuit episode. The most disappointing thing though is the old "MC suffers from a loss - MC has a made-up and not really reasonable change of mind - everything is OK again", for a good anime this is really cheap. Even more the "He has to get over it alone"-talking, there are dumb people that make a suffering even worse and you need time for yourself, but leaving a suffering person alone is the worst you can do - not to mention that such media once again supports the opportunity that people suffering are just too weak to get over it. I know I am taking this too serious, but as someone who has a lot of unresolved problems such statements make me feel even worse and there are many people in my shoes.

To be fair, that could just be a Japan thing. From what I understand, they tend to look down on things like counseling, so that probably translated to the show as well.

[Edit] deleting my spoilering little shitstorm.

Finished Gurren Lagann, liked it a lot, the middle part included a few standardthemes for anime that I do not like, that were executed unoriginal and poorly and that slightly tainted the series for me.

The beginning and ending is helirious without being too silly and the show is a nice little fun-experience. Ignoring the middle part mentioned above this show is pretty great since it manages to mix up a typical shonen-action-comedy with death-content. There are tons of action-shounen-comedy- shows but most of them have in common that they speak a lot about fighting to death and enemys with killing intentions while actual death-content is avoided so far possible - obviously not a good combination.

Alright, I've gotten through seven or eight episodes of each of these shows I'm watching right now, which could be anywhere for just over midway to a third of the way through each of them; I'm not sure how long all of them will be. I'm going to finish them all, but I'm gonna give my thoughts on them so far.

Ace Attorney - This really feels like just a show for the fans of the games. There's some events changed around and rushed through, no doubt to further fit the first two games into one season, and it feels light compared to the games. It's nice to see some scenes expanded on through actual animation, instead of just being informed of it through text, but it could benefit from less cutting and more use of game music. The new, original music is mostly bland and forgettable, when remixing the game music would have worked just fine. Overall, it's fun to see these games animated, but other than that, it's not really that special.

Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress - Unless things start to really fall into place (and that would be pretty convenient), don't bother with this show. Another overhyped action series with a plot that doesn't make sense and characters you couldn't care less about, and the one character you do care about starts acting like an asshole and an idiot. This show draws a lot of comparisons and parallels with Attack on Titan to the point it feels like elements of it were lifted and rewritten to thinly-disguise the fact that this show isn't an original idea. The only thing it does better is it's faster-paced, not slow as ass, and not full of recap. But that doesn't save the show. Just watch Attack on Titan instead.

Kiznaiver - Probably Studio Trigger's best-animated work so far, other than Little Witch Academia but that was a short film rather than a series. It also certainly carries some strangeness, wackiness, and zaniness, but compared to the studio's other works, it's more down to earth. It also seems to care less about an overarching plot (so far) and is more of a character study, and it's a decent one. Three of the characters aren't the best, but the rest are fun or interesting enough that I want to learn more about them and how they're dealing with this experiment they're being put through. Not sure I can quite give it a recommendation, but I'm certainly having fun with it. Also best opening theme.

Kuma Miko - I do recommend it if you like cute shows. It's cute without going overboard, it has some good humor, and it's pretty humorous when the titular miko (shrine maiden) Machi tries and fails horrendously to grasp the concepts of life outside of the shrine. There are elements of it I find a little odd, but on the whole, it's a charming series. Also talking bear.

My Hero Academia - In a sense, My Hero Academia is little more than your typical shonen action series. It can be predictable, but in spite of that, it's just so much fun. The animation is colorful and nice, the characters are enjoyable, the music is fantastic, it's a good series to kick back and enjoy. Of all the series I'm watching this season, I think this is the best, only rivaled by the one just below this. It's a really solid and fun show and I highly recommend it.

Haven't You Heard? I'm Sakamoto - This is becoming one of my favorite comedies ever. It's not quite the same level of crazy as, say, Nichijou, but it almost carries a similar feel. The shenanigans Sakamoto gets into (or people get him into) lead into some hilarious situations and comedic moments and it's overall a blast, definitely recommend.

Space Patrol Luluco - This is the complete off-the-wall shit you expect from Studio Trigger. It makes no damn sense and it's insane and it's wild and I love every minute of it. Each episode is only about eight minutes long, so it's easy to recommend. It's crazy and fun and good for killing a short bit of time.

"I dunno TS, I'm not really into cute shows..."
"It has a talking bear."
"I am into cute shows."

And that sums up my thoughts on Kuma Miko.

You know there is a 2nd and longer movie of little witch academia? Also by "witch" witch hunter robin comes to mind. A great anime you should try out if you don't know it already.

Had a few bad days last month and watched through tytania. A rather bad anime but shockingly I enjoyed it. I also watched another series, but that I cannot remeber it anymore should say enough ;).

I don't like watching unfinished anime. HxH (manga) is back from hiatus btw. Also should finally start with owari (?) monogatari, the hilarious adult outfit of a certain main charakter kind of killed my mood for the series. (Actually watching 2nd season of gravity falls).

Yeah, but I haven't gotten to it yet. I wasn't really that big on the first anyway, but I might watch it again as well as the sequel since I've been trying to follow Trigger's works. Haven't seen Inferno Cop or Ninja Slayer yet though...
