Actually spent the entirety of yesterday just working in ZQuest. And I'm still going. Though I admit, it's not that it's slowing me down entirely, but I need to take a break to let the juices keep flowing... Still though, feels good to do an entire village, graveyard, and half of a dungeon, and start on Hyrule Field.

I ironed the last bug that I've found out of the Z3 scrolling script I'm working on and got the sword working. Interestingly enough, the sword's x-coordinate is based upon the position of Link's hitbox, while the y-coordinate is based upon the position Link is drawn at.

Early this morning, I scripted the first half of the Withered Doll enemy, along with a shortcut routine to easily create ground-walking enemies' "ground works" (no pun intended) quickly using a template.

This little bugger is going to have a diagonal teleportation ability to avoid your attacks and it's (still) a pain to try and think of a foolproof system that will allow it to select a legal tile to warp to and not crash the game. I think I found one but ugh icon_wacky.gif

And, this marks my 1,999th post! Wow. I better save my single, golden bullet for something reeeeal special...

LoL's Active and Passive Subscreen

Proof I've been hard at work on my active subscreen. Proof I haven't touched my passive subscreen. icon_deformed.gif

EDIT: Just finished the passive so I replaced the top shot with the active and passive subscreen. icon_biggrin.gif

Top Left: Where the items will be there will be a total of 10 items.
Middle Left: Where the equipment will be there will be a total of 5 items.
Top Right: Heart container pieces/trading sequence items.
Middle Right: Where the quest status items will be.
Bottom: Tells the name of what item your selector is on.

Please ignore the white transparent dots, they're placeholders for the time being. Just gotta add items and I'm finished with the active subscreen. icon_biggrin.gif

Well, I have done up 3 screens of the town in my quest in the past few hours. Slow progress, but hey, it's better then no progress at all. icon_smile.gif I do have to say that I am really liking how this is looking so far. Let's hope that I can keep this up. icon_biggrin.gif

Yesterday, (And a little today, in the early hours) I scrapped my entire DoR quest file, and got a new one. I started organizing it, fixing it up to my needs! I made about 6 screens, and gosh darn they look great! icon_biggrin.gif

As you probably noticed from the video I posted (in the game thread and Quest Video thread), I have the first street of my city laid out and NPCs starting to work. They just move around for now but the next step is getting the talking to work as well as getting them to go into and come out of the houses.

I finally got around to finishing up my "get sword" dungeon. I blame Final Fantasy VIII, Katawa Shoujo, and Fate/Stay Night for making me take so long to finish it. All that's left before I reach the minimum amount for an expo demo is to beta test the dungeon to make sure my scripts work right, build and test the boss battle, and if I still have time, fix the subscreen graphics to match the rest of the quest.

I'm not entirely sure why, but for some reason a script that was working before stopped working correctly. The first thing I'm going to have to do is figure out why and fix it. I think it may just be that I've been using the same file to test it each time, and it's just remembering which secrets have already been triggered. I'll have to check, though.

Finished scripting the final boss of my quest, some visual effects, and am now moving on to the escape sequence. Of course I still have to finish the actual dungeon... icon_sorry.gif

Yesterday, I finally finished my title screen (my very first one, for my very first quest).
Earlier (I think it was last week), I had finished it in Paint, but I had to tweak it so there weren't so darn many colors. I got it down to 2 CSets worth of colors, and then I had to import the picture. I had to completely rearrange the pallettes because they aren't very import-friendly (if you have more than 16 colors, that is). I had to separate my picture between background (water, mountains and sky) and foreground (all the text) and that's what took so long - going tile by tile and recoloring everything to match how the new pallettes were arranged. icon_sorry.gif Quite time-consuming. But it's done!

Yesterday and today I've finally been able to work on my introduction. My back story includes Zelda 1 and 2, so I decided to take the end scenes from each one, remake the Zelda 2 ending with Zelda-1-style characters, and do it all in sepia (not black and white, but a yellower version of black and white) as if it were in old-style photos.
Just a few moments ago I finished my Zelda 2 ending remake and submitted it for SotW! Hope I win. It's a bummer I have to wait 'til next week for that, but oh well. I'm busy in the meantime. icon_smile.gif

That's all for now. Hope to get more done soon.

I touched up some of the spells I'm using and added some sound effects. I've finished all the spells save for the first spell in the game: warp. It'll let you go to any save point in the game for a small amount of magic. The script should be simple; I just need to make sure I leave it open so I can go back and add new entries whenever I need to.

After that, it's the misc weapons and then I'm done with the major scripting for now.

EDIT: Looking at the list of misc weapons, a lot of them are very simple. I honestly think the biggest hurdle will be this warp script, one of the misc weapons and a system to exchange which weapons you are carrying.

So after finishing up the basic NPC behavior, I've been setting up the other streets of the city. Then I'll start working on house variety and interiors.

Almost done with my 3rd dungeon. Just 7 more rooms and then I get to design the boss.

Last night I wrote a simple experimental raycaster for ZC, you can try it out or read more about it here.

And my warp script is done. It wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be but still proved to be difficult at times. (Mostly the menu stuff) There's still a few small, cosmetic changed I'd like to make to it but I can say it's done for now. I do have a video of it in action (sort of) but it's coupled with a glitch that I came across from using it. (Though I figured out the problem and know how to avoid it. :3) At this rate, I may have something to show at the expo. Possibly.

...I hope. D:
