K, few updates here Shadow.

1. The water is enterable but I'm unable to leave it here:

IPB Image

2. In the sav file you sent me, the shortcut entrance to the deku tree lvl 2 sin't opened here (and I'd REALLY like that opened, I have to restart a whole mess of times and I really dont want to traverse through lvl 1 deku after the statues etc. every time I want to continue)

IPB Image

3. The new warp you just put into the hall of statues to supposedly warp you to the end of it just teled me to the top left of a screen in the hall, stuck in the corner wall : (

Thanks so much for everything. I'd really appreciate an updated sav file with that deku tree shorcut opened when you get the chance

Whoah, you got the lens early. o.o! How did you get the lens? Even I have trouble getting the lens. x X. I mean don't you need a lot of Relics to get past the archaeologists in the excavation first?

Anyway, you go to the very northwest to get the dream whistle. From the swamp, pretty much hug the left side of the map upwards for a bit until you get to the lost hills. I think the maze path there is south north east north. Then it's pretty much linear to the Dreameater city.

Once you get the Whistle, you can go into Pulchera village and start using the whistle next to sleeping people.

-------------------------------------

EDIT: Aww, I even did the hall of statues miniboss to unlock the cliff entrance. D: Man, that sucks. I'll have to go fix that. Okay, I'll upload a new version in a few.

------------------------------------

'tis updated!

Even included ... er ... quite a few shortcuts to various places in the Deku Jungle. I included a permanent secret trigger just outside the cliff-side entrance, so you don't have to go fuXx1ng around the hall of statues to get that thing open again.

Oh. Fun fact: The L4 sword now does 9 damage instead of 8. Say goodbye to those annoying blue wizzrobes and like likes. >:-p

But just to be clear, in that save file, I really did defeat the hall of statues miniboss to open the cliff face entrance. I guess it didn't take or something. I never even touched it before.

Pre-2.5 non-local secret triggering is really weird. It's based on level numbers and boss rooms and secrets being triggered. When you have so many level numbers to keep track of, stuff gets all wonky. I'm glad we're in 2.5 here, so the end-solution will be simpler.

EDIT again: Okay, I think that the cliff-side entrance is actually opened when you defeat either the first or second of the boss-repeats in the Deku Tree. I didn't defeat the third one yet, and when I went to the entrance of the Deku Tree on F-1, it opened. icon_shrug.gif

-------------

I just beat the game. ^-^
woo

So yeah, it's beatable now, from Deku Tree onward.
(Download the above file again, as of 10:33 PM EST, 5/3/12.)
There was a nasty layer problem on the last repeat-bosses, where layer 2 was fully solid so you couldn't walk. That sucked. D:

Think I need the second power bracelet to enter that city,,,, any hint?? thanks
some darker blocks I can't move - blocking the entrance to dream eater
those dungeons at the swamp are inaccessible --- can't enter the main dungeon there
mmm ... maybe I'll wait some updates to continue ... icon_blink.gif

Oooooh SO CLOSE shadow. The cliffside entrance that you put in does indeed put you in the correct spot in the deku tree, only problem is that you get stuck on the door when you enter it and cant move, not even "continue"ing works, still stuck in the door. You almost had it! Lol.

Thanks.

Wow this is all great to see, thanks again Shadow for all the updates... I simply messaged him because I haven't been around in awhile due to school and all but to see him update all this while he has other projects is great! Keep up the good work!

I downloaded your latest update. The land to water transition in the swamp appears much improved. However Lost Hills and Dreameater City still have water to land transition problems. Do you need a picture of each area where there is a problem with the flippers?

Enjoy Life!

Thanks - Joe

Thanks for the reports, everyone. I went through the quest and fixed what I believe to be every single instance of water in the quest, or at least similar formations to those. Everywhere from Crystalia to the Dreameater Village to the Deku Jungle to the Swamp to the dirt-water transitions of the Lost Hills. Hopefully it'll take. Yep. A lot of changes.

I also added a warp in the middle of the (full) Lake Hylia to lead you up to the Dreameater village, or at least just underneath it. Should speed things up a bit. Yeah, once you get the flippers, you can warp around the world a lot easier. Just use the lake warps. They should work.

Also fixed the starting positions for the Deku Tree cliffside entrance. All warps are actually on the floor now. icon_razz.gif

Oh, for those users just starting the quest, there was a Heart Container Piece just near where you woke up when you started the quest. You had needed the sword to get it. Because it's an HCP that you couldn't go back and get if you missed, I swapped it out with a Magic Shield, which you can buy much earlier in the game. I actually swapped it with an instance of a shield that you can actually find. It's in the Lost Hills. Ironically, I also added a magic shield into the game a few screens away where I swapped the shield with it. You'll need a candle to get it though. (Or the hammer, but which are you more likely to have at that point? icon_razz.gif )

Anyway, Download again for awesome fixes.

Nah, you don't need a L2 bracelet. It only helps. The raft (Flying Boots that you can get from the desert well for 255 rupees if you super-bomb it) can get you there too. But basically to get to the Dreameater village, you have to go through the Lost Hills caves. I'll give you a hint - there is a screen with a walled-in chest that you have to defeat every enemy on the screen to make stairs appear. It has four lynels (The bird creatures) and three keese on the screen.

Thank you for all the work you are doing on this Shadow. I've always been fascinated by this game and started it a few times but never got that far. It's a brilliant, difficult game. Once we get to a definitive, final version I'm going to finally try to take this thing down.

Sure thing. Hopefully by then I'll have modernized it completely. I'd be adding new content in, but this tileset is a real ^@#%$ to work with. x X. I really can't stand slapping down one combo at a time. It takes ages, yo. Ages. I'm not working without Dungeon Carving mode handy.

But I'll have plenty of new stuff to mess around with. I'm planning a new area for each of the new items innate to 2.5 that will make your final ascent to the Deku Tree a lot easier, due to the inherent difficulty of the final areas.

Bug-fix version. Fixed a little corner of water in Crystalia, and did a few other maintenance things.

At long last... An old, great quest revival that will get me start playing again!

Thanks for updating this quest, ShadowTiger. It frustrated me enough to quit it years ago, but remained interested in seeing it to completion. Hope to finish it this time around. Thanks a bunch for another exciting offering.

No problem. I remember when I was playing it too. Every time I found a bug, I just tried to find a way to work around it. It was a challenge I imposed on myself. I didn't even think to report it as a bug. icon_blink.gif I thought "Someone must have beaten it, so so can I!" Eventually I did. Eventually. Though to be honest, I took advantage of this really weird bug in 183 where after I had gotten a clock, the invincibility never turned off, ( icon_heh.gif ) so I bargained with my sister to let me have the computer for the rest of the day. Oh god I played for hours and hours. XD

Also, I am absolutely confounded by the relative depth of the excavation. It's huge. I mean it goes on and on. At first I thought it had 3 layers. Then it had 4. Then later I found out it had 5. Then this morning I found a 6th layer. Now I can't even find it again. @ @. I'm so flummoxed.

From a post I wrote above:

If it's a walkability bug or something, let me know. I just made the full trek through the cave and went to the Dreameater village, so there's definitely a path. icon_shrug.gif The place you're looking for is in the cave one screen east of those two heavy blocks.

Oh, one more thing: Bug Fix for that swim warp. I forgot to make it a Swim Warp [B] type warp so it'll use the second tile warp. When DoY was made, we used to only be able to have only one tile warp and one side warp per screen. Now we can have four of each.
