They look just fine to me. Maybe use a little less tall grass and add another tree in the first screen you showed. Otherwise I like it like it is. Especially that bridge looks nice in that place.

Any place in on the screen that needs a few more trees and less grass? I think I can see a place for a few more trees if I can fit them there (Bottom Right on the first screen could possibly have a few more trees). Could possibly change\remove the tall grass on the cliff link is on. I'll see if that works.

Edit: Made the changes in those areas.

Are any of them better? Both have a few more trees in one of the corners as well.

Yeah looks great. I wouldn't use that different grass though, I like the normal one better.

Ok, I'll use the 1st screen. Thanks for the advice!

It looks pretty good! I can see that you're a beginner here, so I'll go easy.
I think it could use a little bit more trees. But the screen is a bit filled so not to many. I also think there should at least be some dirt paths. It's a bit to green you know? But the layout and design is very solid. Great man icon_wink.gif

A good rule of thumb with the GameBoy tilesets is to always use two terrain types; look at this Oracle of Ages map. There are very few areas where only one terrain type is used, and those areas are really bland.

Speaking of GameBoy...

The top-right screen isn't done, but the only other "in progress" thing is the water borders. I need to edit those to match the terrain but I just don't want to do it right now, haha. Otherwise, fire away!

Ok, i'll try to lower the amount of green on the screen. However, EZGBZ doesnt seem to have much dirt paths. It does have some tiles like it though:
IPB Image

Any of them look good enough to use? I tried to use the one selected for a previous screen but there might be a better tile somewhere in there.

Thanks for the advice!

Edit: The tiles on the second strip might be good for a dirt path. I'll see if they work later.

To Ebola Zaire: That is a brilliant manp so far. I especially like the custom made pillars and arches. The map also has a really good colour set. It's a lot easier to look at than the standard GBC colours.

Just dropping this here. Head over to This Thread if you're hungry for an explenation of what exactly is going on here. By the way, Ebola Zaire made this screen, not me, so... I don't know, I'm a cheap rabbit or something.

I like how it's not even in the right palette. icon_frown.gif

To be honest, I don't really like this screen, it's too cramped.

I kinda prefer it when the GB/GBC trees are solid on all four tiles.

Making half walkable is... well. It does not work super well as the layering always look rather bad when fighting around them.
It's kinda just a preference I guess. icon_razz.gif

I've tried two types of dirt path on the screens now. Are any of these better?
Dirt path 1:

Dirt Path 2:

Isn't that what the whistle normally plays in note form (on the pillar)? Either way, it's a cool detail.

On one hand, I agree, but on the other this is not a GameBoy specs restricted game, and we decided that doing that would simply take up way too much walkable space (which is something I can't stand myself, morose than layered trees). We might end up making only half of the half walkable, but then we're back to the same issue about walkable space.

Also, Yoshidude, just as a sidenote; the water is walkable and there are no enemies on this screen (due to the fact that it's a warp area), so while I see what you mean about it being too cramped, when you look at it that way there's actually plenty of free space for Link to sleep on a golden mattress of love :3

Mudkipz - to be honest, i dont like either (dirt paths, not screens). Why dont you just recolor the one in the first screen? icon_wink.gif

Robin / Ebola Zaire - love the screen, love the ocarina of time script, but for some reason i dont really like the music it plays, the end feels quite abrupt for me

Ok, I'll try that.
