The number of cosplayers who HALF ASS their costumes (much less pick something so generic and mainstream) would blow your mind. Yes. I **** you not. CARDBORD.

I could go on and on. But I'll stop.

The show's brilliance is deduced in a rather amazing way even in the second episode, where Yagami's position is triangulated through the most amazing of clever ploys.

I haven't watched the anime, but two years ago or so I did read all the manga... and it's fine up until the last bit where I actually put down the book and just exclaimed to myself and to the ears of more studious classmates, "now that's just silly". No spoilers needed, but I had a hard time believing that all the characters really plotted that much ahead/knew exactly what the other person would do. I mean comon, it's one thing to predict a persons movement, and it's another to predict the next three things they will do, but like, an entire weeks worth of scheming?

I did really like the ending though after the explanations and Light just goes bat**** insane while Ryuk's just standing there chill. Suitable fate.

Oh, and funny story, I worked at a camp this last summer where we had a bunch of teenage "helpers". One set of these kids brought along all 12 books and got most of the staff reading them... right in front of the kids (7-12 year olds). It was a living hell trying to recollect all of them... but it was fun to watch the kids ask what Death Note was about and just looking at their innocent faces and basically giving the age old response "complicated stuff, you'll understand when you're older."

Death Note's about the only Shonen Jump anime I like, but, yeah, its mainstream popularity is a bit off-putting.

Sounds interesting. But not going to Heaven or Hell? That sounds like incentive enough for anybody smart enough to know how to use the notebook to stay far, far away from it.

That's stated early on, but at the end, if you pay attention, it mentions that no one at all goes to Heaven or Hell.
Besides, anyone who would actually use it would more likely be bound for Hell, yes? At least Mu is a step up from that.

Good point. But anybody who wanted to use it for good would probably be bound for Heaven, and that "no Heaven" part would certainly discourage him. Unless he manipulated somebody else into doing it...

The show goes through great pains to show that there is no "good" way to use the power to kill others. It's sort of like The One Ring; it corrupts the user, except not by any evilness of its own; it simply allows its wielder to show his/her dark side.

I love the show, even for all its ridiculous Xanatos Roulettes (picture related). It's sort of like "Well, as long as we've got paper giving people heart attacks, we might as well make 45% of the cast card-carrying supergeniuses." It's popularity was never really a big turning point for me since I'm not a part of the anime culture; out of the people I hang out with, only two watch anime and neither of them have watched Death Note.

As for the cardboard, half-ass is giving them too much credit. I'd say probably around a quarter-assing it. Maybe fifth-assing. Depends on the time of day.

Also, since I just linked you to TVTropes, sorry if you can't leave the computer for a couple hours.

Light thought he was using it for good...

it brings to question is total peace worth our freedom? Is it best for one person to be killing all he sees fit for what he defines as "the better of the world"? Of course not.

Besides, when they call in religion they certainly don't take on just one. They pull in their own beliefs. Take for example, the shinigami. Religion is, just how the group or society it is borne in interpets it.

I had a dream where I met a cos-player dressed like Samus. She was pretty cool in the dream...then I woke up icon_xd.gif I often meet weird people in my dreams... icon_razz.gif

Can't say I've ever had a dream like that before, though. icon_razz.gif

It started out with a group of people and myself at some run down houses. I could only assume we lived in the area and someone was opening a restaurant in one of the houses. Someone drove up in a red convertable, and I crawled over some tables to get outside. And, to my dismay there was a kid we HATED from VoTech that was driving

he came out and asked for two kids I know then turned into another kid that I know, and said something about "TurboCharger." It turned out to be a radio controlled car which he received moments later from nowhere. He complained that it wasn't all that great. Then I was at my old high school building. the next thing I do remember is that now I'm actually at the school I'm going to outside

there's the empty parking lot, except for me and 3 other people, and some big ugly three headed monster type thing with three heads(One was your generic lizard-like head, the other was a dolphin, and the other resembled Nightmare from Metroid Fusion except not Jello-like), and a bunch of tables and chairs

so this monster killed one of the people I was with, and suddenly I became Samus Aran and started shooting it. my arm cannon became a burst machine gun and I unleashed hell on the beast(the heads were on some rotating plate on it's shoulders, and each head had a different attack) it killed another guy and the last guy ran out of ammo, and stepped back.

The creature then focused its rage on me, and charged at me climbing over tables and **** until eventually it got too close and I FALCON KICKED(Yes, I said it in the dream) it into one of those generic cheap plastic chairs you see at most school cafeterias. This chair managed to NOT break, and the beast being likely 800 lbs and 10 to 12 feet tall. and then it started talking about not wanting to use this form until the police arrived

and then I woke up... I wish I saw it's second form. I WANTED TO UNLEASH HELL ON IT SOME MORE!

Think of it's second form, then put it as a secret boss in your quest. Think about how awesome that would be!

Let me know when Zelda Classic is capable of 3 dimensional capability and first person shooters without practically butchering the system with scripting, THEN we'll talk icon_razz.gif

You get the point. Transfer it to 2D and hit it with arrows or something. It's got potential.

So I attended my second Brawl tournament tonight... this one didn't go so well. I main Marth (as you may know) and the friend I play with most often mains Zero-Suit Samus; I also like to train against Falco and Meta-Knight CPU's (I know, I know, CPU's just aren't the same). So against light to middling characters, I do really well. Unfortunately, I really didn't expect someone there to be playing a completely kick-ass Ike. I got smeared in the semifinal round, mostly because I was using tactics that work really well on light-weights but absolutely sucked against a heavy. icon_frown.gif But I'll have a chance to redeem myself at another tournament this Friday (that the Ike player is planning to attend) so I'll be much more ready this time.

My Zero-Suit Samus friend took the gold, though, so that was pretty awesome. icon_biggrin.gif
