The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

The way the food system is implemented is clearly intentional. Nintendo WANTS the player to be able to survive dangerous situations by just chugging down food. I mean they don't want the player to die. Why would they? They want to offer simple challenges that are easy enough to complete with little effort but still rewarding. Not to say there won't be other types of challenge but the game sure seems to be predominantly moseying along and winning with simple preparation.
Not to say the game doesn't look good. Wind Waker is a pathetically easy game but probably my favorite Zelda game.

I imagine some areas will have limited resources such as the desert, snowy regions and Death Mountain. This is a starting area after all so I think it'd have the most resources. That said, I do think the system as is makes Link OP.
But I wouldn't go saying it's one of the easiest Zelda game as strike puts it. Link deals with some powerful enemies/bosses that seem to do more than three hearts of damage first up in the game it seems. Most recent titles were afraid to do this and Skyward Sword gave you more than three hearts! Breath of the Wild still has potential I'd say to be one of the more challenging Zelda titles. And as they said, you can make the game challenging yourself; go for a minimalist run and don't abuse the system and use it as you see fit. You aren't obliged to go and collect the resources. After all, they did show you can brave Mount Hylia without cold resistance clothing. I feel this is better than the easy/normal/hard mode selection system.
That said, I feel the food thing is a cheap exploit personally. IIRC (going by foggy-ish memory here) they avoided Game Overs (or near game over situations) by quickly going into the menu to get food, right? That's definitely something they should look into for sure if that's the case. However, I feel if players took the time to hunt for resources, I feel they're entitled to use or abuse them (fairly without cheap exploits). Though some suggestions of improving the system in this thread have been pretty neat, and I approve of them. Real time eating would act like real time drinking a potion in Skyward Sword. It would also support Nintendo's idea of making the game as realistic as possible. Is it really realistic for Link to be able to eat without getting attacked during that time? No, so I hope they end up expanding on the idea... but unfortunately, I doubt they will, unless they confirmed they're still polishing/expanding the game.
I like a lot of what you've said here, my only argument would be: This is Zelda, starting with Ocarina of Time I've rarely had any deaths. The system can only be abused if combat has returned to the difficulty of LoZ/AoL/ALttP/LA.

No more dungeons
I'm pretty damn sure they confirmed there are dungeons. ![]()
BTW Cukeman, my point was enemies (well, mainly the guardians and golem) seem to deal more damage than usual. Possibly more than some of the "difficult titles" you listed. And this is just the starting area. Though I don't want to be 100% sure on that. Even the weather and environment is more of a threat now it seems.

I could be wrong. I just have a strong feeling this game is going to be pretty easy. Which is fine. And it can always be played in a harder way.

The only series i have played so far with the healing from the menu is the Elder Scrolls series, at least Oblivion and Skyrim. In those games there's a cap of how much potions you can drink at a time (i think it's 4 and you have to wait a little bit to drink more). Maybe it will have a cap on how much you can eat at a time.
Dungeons are pretty much the main core of a main Zelda game. I highly doubt they will ever remove them.

That way you can go into the menu to do this but you also can't just pause mid animation, chug some apple juice and avoid death.
They still have time to work with that though. And honestly, even if it stayed exactly as it is now it still looks amazing and I am super excited.

Treehouse confirmed that the game has traditional dungeons.
Anyway holy shit goddamn I am hyped for this game. This is what I want out of a new Zelda. I was reallllly craving a massive Z1 experience with all sorts of new stuff and well, HERE WE ARE. The setting is wonderful and it just looks so gooooooood. I love the technology vs nature theme and how Link has a symbiotic relationship with them. Sure, his eyephone can magnetize stuff and create techno magic bombs, but he still has to climb a tree or spear a boar if he wants to eat. The man with what is probably the most advanced tech in the world? He has to live like a caveman.
The biggest thing I'm hoping for is a return to Pig Ganon, which seems likely considering that Miyamoto said that the game is basically Z1 re-imagined.
Also a lot of questions y'all have would be answered if you paid attention the livestream. Just saying.

I see a lot of people saying that this doesn't feel like Zelda, but to me it feels overwhelmingly like Zelda 1.
As has already been said, these twin peaks are remarkably similar to these twin peaks or, as they appear in the game, these twin peaks.
I'm excited. This looks very fun.
The only thing that concerns me is the Sheikah Slate, clearly just a Hylian Wii U controller, and the central presence of 'technology'. I suppose we'll see.
It also has a plot that I SWEAR sounds like a reboot of Zelda 1.

Also, no one has talked about having the ability to freely Jump. That's cool and lends itself well to the free running vibe I'm getting here. I suspect that besides the runes which I'm assuming have their own button, each usable weapon or item will take the place of the sword. We know the bow is hardwired to RZ, so I'm just kind of guessing here.
And I think this is totes a Z1 reboot, and reimagining. If they still care about the time line this could replace Z1 in the main timeline.

Hopefully there'll be a limit to the amount of food you can carry so you can't just spam 20 1/2 heart buffs when you're close to death. Potions and fairies were good because they were limited by your bottles.

There's a limit to how many swords/shields/etc. you can carry, so there'll probably some sort of food limit too. Granted, it seems to be a slot limit instead of an overall limit.

I think it'll be just as OP as the Potions. Potions were full restore, and you could have 4 or more in most of the games. It's basically that, but divided into smaller pieces.

At least it's not the food system from Adventure Island (NES)
