All in all, great game, it doesn't rely as heavily on A Link to the Past nostalgia as I worried, and was well worth the day-one purchase. Any doubts you have about it should be put to rest as soon as you get lost in the experience. Job well done, Nintendo.

Honestly, I completely disagree. :( The fact that this is so similar to A Link to the Past just keeps being a thorn in the side to me.  There's so much in the game that's just like ALttP that it gets annoying that they're trying to label this as a new game.  I really just feel like they wanted to make a remake of ALttP, but they were worried that fans might not like them changing so much.  I mean, even the story setup is the same as ALttP, it just has some plot details swapped out.

 

It's still a fun game.  It's just most of my gripes about the game come about because it relies on ALttP.  The dungeons are short because they're the same length at ALttP dungeons.  The story isn't fantastic because it's ALttP's story.  The exploration aspect of it isn't as fun because it's ALttP's world.  I just wish they could have either flat out done an ALttP remake or made the game entirely new with the new gameplay mechanics.

 

But, oh well.  I still really enjoy the game.  The dungeons are really well designed and fun in my opinion.  This is probably going to end up being my favorite handheld Zelda game.

Hey, Ventus?  We have something on this site called a spoiler box.  Please use it when pertaining to dungeon items or any spoilers of the matter, considering that not all of us have finished the game.  For example, I hadn't done the Swamp Palace yet and I knew nothing of any of the Lorule dungeons I was headed to.  Aaaand now that's been spoiled for me. :sweat:

Well, you just have to think about it. :P The biggest element of this game is allowing people to tackle the dungeons in any order they want without knowing what to expect from them.  So when you put in stuff like that when people aren't expecting, you're sort of taking away one of the high points of the game.

Right now I'm in the palace of darkness, man this place has got the name right. It is a dark mofo in that dungeon.

And also has anyone found any new shield yet other then the one you can buy in the Light world?

You know, I had no clue that they even existed. I beat the whole game with just the green tunic. :/

Anyhow, I'm stuck with a full wallet and wish we had more uses for Rupees now. I bought everything ages ago and there's nothing to spend it on... I still have the Tempered Sword atm and it didn't even really feel like much of an upgrade. It does 1.5x the damage the Master Sword did. The Nice Hammer still does 3x more damage than the Master Sword, so I'm confused why it's so weak. Maybe i'm just too used to ZC with 2x, 4x and 8x damages.

While I can understand how you feel, from my perspective I tended to look at it in a different way: I get to rediscover this old, beloved world, see what hasn't changed and what has, being pleasantly surprised when finding something new where something else once existed. My only complaints are about how some new areas feel too small, for example where the Zoras live (and I haven't found anything interesting in the Lorule equivalent but maybe I haven't looked hard enough). As for why they reused it, well, I saw a quote (but now can't find the source) where Aonuma said Miyamoto wanted him to remake A Link to the Past but Aonuma wanted to do something new instead, so they compromised on this. But a recent Iwata Asks that talks about the game's origins doesn't seem to make mention of this. Kind of strange. But in the end while I don't think it's too big a deal that the overworld is being reused, I do agree that I would love to see this in a whole new world, though to be fair in the past other franchises have reused game worlds and no one complained then. :P

 

As for the story... After thinking on it some last night there are quite a few holes in the story thinking on it...

100%'d the game, found all overworld HCPs on my own apart from two; one I completely forgot about and another I felt kind of stupid for not finding on my own. The others I had to confirm were minigame ones, which honestly two of them have stupid requirements for obtaining them; I don't know how anyone could figure that out on their own, but then maybe you might actually like those minigames unlike me.

Random note: Man I'm glad this game didn't pull a Twilight Princess/Skyward Sword and end up explaining what every item you picked up is after turning the game back on. Probably the best part of this game. :tard:

For treasures in SS, yes. Rupees I'm not sure.
