I'm at the finale to Distorted Travesty. The part I'm now stuck on is (spoiler tags in case anybody else playing the game wants it to be a surprise)

Spoiler

Basically, it's the second-final boss battle. Words cannot describe this horrifying battle. I found a video of somebody playing against the same boss. Somehow, he managed to win the battle, so you can see every single part of what I'm up against. Check this out:

Shroud Lord Battle

Bit of mechanics explanation for those who haven't played the game. Dash-jumping gives you a split second invincibility frame in mid-dash, mainly used for dodging attacks or navigating solid (sometimes moving) walls of insta-kill spikes. It doesn't work on everything, and can only be used so many times before it needs recharged.

Also, by hitting an enemy or boss with a specific sequence of attacks in a single second time-frame, you can "cripple" it, reducing its defense to more manageable levels. I believe the cripple sequence for the Shroud Lord is "1: Any physical attack while mouth is open, 2: Full Swing attack". Unfortunately, the only times the mouth is open is when he's firing at you with a HP draining attack, so oftentimes, it's not worth taking the damage and losing progress.
I've still got to kill this thing, and then take down the actual final boss... Somebody pray for me, I'm going to need it.

Oh geez! That game goes full troll engine near the end...

There's two sequels. "Distorted Travesty 2: The Sequel to the Prequel", and "Distorted Travesty 3: Saved Game". Supposedly, they're both more difficult than the first one.

The second game gives the main character, Claire, the ability to wall jump indefinitely off the same wall, so later levels don't even bother with silly things like ground.

The third game is supposed to be more like a Metroidvania, where you have to earn all the different abilities and attacks, and equip them when needed. It uses the same HP system as Zelda (even down to the Heart Container graphics and magic meter!), and is supposed to be even MORE difficult. For one thing, you have to earn and re-learn the dash ability, a very essential part of the game mechanics.

Good luck with that nonsense. Beat it once, never again.

I got tired of the never-ending defeats from the Shroud Lord, so I'm taking a bit of a break from Distorted Travesty.

I'm still interested in studying different RPGs to see what different things make some better than others, so I downloaded a bunch of RPG Maker games to look through. Right now, I'm checking one out called "Alter AILA".

I'm also playing a new game that Yahtzee made. (The guy who does Zero Punctuation) It's called "Poacher". It's his first attempt making a game using Game Maker instead of all the weird tricks he uses to make platformers out of a Visual Novel engine. Because of this, the game mechanics are much easier to work with, and it's a really fun Metroidvania game.

It has two endings to it, so if anybody wants to try it out, I'll give a hint on one of the things you're supposed to need to do to get the good ending. Spoiler tags in case you don't want to know ahead of time.

I finally beat Distorted Travesty!!! I admit, I had to use a glitch to force the Shroud Lord to not use his final battle pattern, but if you've seen the video in my earlier post, you can't really hold it against me.

The Shroud Lord, difficulty-wise, is the real final boss of the game. There's another boss battle afterwards, but although it's epic as hell and worth playing through the entire game just to see it, it's really easy. I don't mean easy by DT standards, I mean easy as in absolutely anybody could kill this thing off in a matter of minutes.

I'm downloading the sequel as I'm typing this now. Let's hope that this game is at least half as good as the first one.

@Ventus
I swear, you need to hurry up and get to the ending to this game. You're going to absolutely love what happens, and it's taking everything I've got not to spoil it. Let me know if you want the glitch for the Shroud Lord fight. The battle's a nightmare without it. Even using the glitch only makes things barely manageable.

Diablo in Diablo III is a heck of a lot easier if you have a heaping pile of Fire Resistance and a way to (Spoiler -> ) kill your clones quickly. They hit hard. Really glad they drop Health Globes.

So I beat him. Found my first Legendary item (Thor's Hammer) in the Nightmare mode Cathedral Level 1 this morning. It was weaker than my Templar's current weapon. icon_shrug.gif Just a bit. He still hits like a pussycat, but eh, he occasionally draws fire from me.

you need to buy stuff at the auction house there are set items also which are green in inferno level which you need to level your equipment character blacksmith and jeweler to get to.

I got Melia to join my team in Xenoblade. Apparently she's one of the best characters in the game.

And it looks like in Devil Survivor that I will be taking Amane's Route. I was hoping to get Gin's Route icon_frown.gif.

Alright I'll try to get back to playing it sometime tonight, And Sure I wouldn't mind having the glitch handy, (I would like to try beating it without one first...But I might need it <.<)

And Congrats On beating DT Kurt91.

Well, here's the trick to fighting him.

Shroud Lord is weak against both Wind and Water elements, so alternate between the two to ensure you're always dealing extra damage with normal attacks. Kill off the hands to help make things easier for you, then stick with normal attacks until you've nearly depleted his first health bar.

Now, here's the trick. Use upwards Wave of Awesome attacks as the easiest way to Cripple him before starting the second health bar. (Cripple Point: Any physical attack when mouth is open + Full Swing) He absolutely needs to be Crippled when the rotating lasers appear for the transitional phase.

He won't attack while the rotating lasers are active, so ignore any damage you take and beat him down with everything you've got. Spam Wave of Awesome attacks as the Spirit Meter refills, and make sure you've got a decent element fused to your normal attacks. You need to deplete over a full health bar BEFORE the rotating lasers disappear.

If you do this correctly, the boss will not register that the extra health bar is gone, and will continue the fight as normal. This means that the final transitional phase and the last set of attacks will not activate and the Shroud Lord will always behave as though he's got more health than he does. The second phase of the fight is still tricky, but you should be able to survive easily enough to spam Nature's Gift and get your HP back up from the laser damage.

If you have one of the newer updates, you should have the ability to force a Game Over from the pause menu, if you fail to get the glitch working and don't want to wait for another chance. However ZephyrBurst fixed a few glitches in the latest update, but didn't say what they were. The Shroud Lord glitch was mentioned to him prior to the update, so he might have patched it. If you do intend on using the glitch, you might want to avoid updating until after defeating the boss, or keep a separate copy of the game (GameDetails file contains save data) just in case it was fixed.
