Once you get over the initial difficulty jump from Expert mode, your real hurdles are Skeletron, Plantera and Duke Fishron. The rest of the game isn't too bad with patience and practice. Good luck!

Don't forget a million deaths Evan!  We all know the real goal is to decorate the world with gravestones for a Halloweenish effect though~

Not sure if this is a new item or not, but you can now get a portable piggy bank from blood moons. It's called the money trough, and using it summons a flying piggy bank for you. Extremely useful, and pretty easy to get. I got 2 of them out of the 3 blood moons I had in my expert world.

Moon lord is tough, but if you have a magic mirror and lure him away from the spawn, he gets pretty easy. About to die? Teleport home and go to the other side of the map.

Also, Red's Throw and Valkyrie Yoyo are now obtainable in expert mode.

Your teleporting strategy no longer works as of the latest patch. Get too far away and he teleports to you. It was funny, being able to just teleport back to the nurse, but now you can't do that anymore. However there are still a lot of ways to exploit Moon Lord.

I think it would have just been easier to make the Nurse die instantly when such a boss spawns and she cannot respawn until after the fight, or make it so she refuses to heal you when a boss is active. I'm surprised that they don't just make the Moon Lord despawn if you try that trick. I don't know about other bosses, but I know Destroyer can't be teleported from; it'll just follow you to your new location and Wall of Flesh, well, you know what happens.

Honestly, with Heart Lanterns, Campfires, Regen Band or equivalent, Regen Potion, Worm Scarf, Endurance Potion, Lifeforce Potion and Honey buffs, as long as you have decent evasion, you should be able to survive anything and be able to outlast Potion Sickness if it comes up. Doesn't hurt to have Vampire Knives or Spectre for back up healing as well as Heart Statues. Tack on defensive Beetle Armor if tanking or offensive Beetle Armor for more melee DPS and you should be golden.

Shrimpy Truffle and Cosmic Car Key alone let you outrun the final boss and just shoot him dead while running away (You can even outrun the laser with a mechanical cart or asphalt highway+Lightning Boots). The nurse strat was honestly never really needed. I'm actually glad ReLogic is actively weeding out exploits that completely change the flow of the final fight away from what their initial vision of it was.

I also liked when they removed the exploit where you could just stand on a piece of Meteorite/Hellstone Ore and BS your way through the Mechanical Bosses in 1.1 such that you now get a burning debuff and trying to use Sand gets you suffocated. All that they need to do now is fix that with spikes so you can't just tank minor damage from spikes. I noticed that EX Mode made a lot of other cheesy tactics not work, such as Plantera's shots now piercing solid objects so you can't just snipe it from a hidey-hole and teleport between two of them. And IIRC, EX Mode Queen Bee's minions can go through platforms. I mean Minecraft changed the enemy AI to be really smart instead of them being like "Hurr durr, me gonna kill Steve" (walks straight into a hole right in front of them). Terraria's enemy AI has really improved since I first played it in 1.0.4.

While I originally made this for the people on the Terraria forums, maybe you guys will get some use out of this as well? Couldn't hurt to crosspost it.

Well, here's my world. I'm at my grandparents' house where the wifi works. I've only beaten the Eye of Cthulu so far. Bosses in expert mode are definitely a lot stronger...

*Disclaimer- These are not MY house designs. I liked them so I replicated them in my own world, with a few minor tweaks!*

EDIT- I updated the picture- now includes the whole town!

Apparently, phantasm has been nerfed, and I can feel the difference. Thanks Re-Logic, I am certainly going to win my next moon lord rematch now that I do 2k less dps -_-. If I wanted less dps, I would've gone with the vortex beater.

Anyways, I personally think we should do an expert mode server from scratch. It would be a fun experience to try out. Well, fun if I don't rush everybody into doing the next boss before they are ready :P

I still can't beat Skeletron in Expert Mode.  I have been playing around with a Minecart roller coaster for the sake of avoiding him more.  It has been working up to a point, but I need to work on it more.  If it just is a flat rail with two bouncy ends, you end up hitting his head too often.  I created one that bounces at the ends (except the one that goes at the top), has the track go upward after that, repeat, until you get to the top row, that has you fall back to the bottom row, just shortly before bouncing back the other direction and starting over the riding process.  But even with that, I had the battle end for getting away from him too fast.  I have done well enough to eliminate the arms (without a track method, I die within less than a minute for being too slow, even with good accessories), but I have not completed the entire process.  If I ride too slow, I die.  If I ride too fast, he loses me and the battle ends that way.  I need to find that ideal speed that is in between.  If that can't be found, I will need to look for another strategy.  I think it can be done without putting the world in hardmode first.  I'd like to be able to explore the dungeon before hardmode.  Even with molten armor and ironskin potion, your defense is going to be too low against expert mode Skeletron, so strategy has to be highly dependent on having the right sort of mobility to avoid getting hit.  I'm not sure I could even pull that off with a standard arena that uses layers of platforms, since you still move slower that you would on a minecart.

@Nathaniel: Do you have Campfires and Heart Lanterns setup at your arena? They make a big difference in boss fights. Also, if you're on foot, have Sunflowers setup as well since they now bestow a speed buff on you. Other than that, my only suggestion is try to put a bigger emphasis on evasion. Try to avoid contact with the head at all costs, since that can be 70+ damage with poor armor and you could possibly get comboed to death. Other than that, I don't know what else to suggest. It seems that you've reached the Underworld layer of the map. Have you tried using a Phoenix Blaster, possibly with Meteor Shots? I don't have too much other advice to give though. A video I saw beat Skeletron using a new bow called The Bee's Knees. Just curious, what's your accessory setup?

In other news, I'm still watching that Expert Mode playthrough by Ningishu and the character made it to Hardmode without dying so far and the player announced capping at 200 HP. Here's part 1 of the series: https://www.youtube....h?v=FaMUg8K-G6Q

Note to Nathaniel: This guy/gal's fight with Skeletron is in part 2. Perhaps it can give you some more ideas to help you?

Good news:

I beat him!  I beat Skeletron in Expert Mode, and it wasn't even a close call either!  I took nobody's advice, and came up with my own plan.

No need for a lot of special gear or even potions!  It came to me to design a Minecart track in the shape of a hexagon, above and slightly to the left of the dungeon entrance (the dungeon is on the east side of my world).  The hexagon was roughly large enough to fill up a screen, or perhaps slightly larger than that.  Only two bouncy ends on the left and right sides, with most of the straight path being at the top and bottom.  The design has you pretty much going in circles, as long as you hammer the transition points correctly.  At top or near top speed, I kept doing circles around Skeletron.  I was sometimes running into his head when I was at the top of the hexagon track, but not nearly often enough to be much of a problem.  In fact, I only had to heal once early on, most of that damage coming from the process of getting to the track in the first place.  Nothing special when it came to weapon choice.  I alternated between using a Demon Scythe and a Molten Fury with Hellfire Arrows, although I am sure there are plenty of other good choices of ranged, magic, or thrown weapons to pick from.  The only downside is that the battle took a long time, taking most of the night.  So the strategy might be a bit of a problem if your shooting accuracy isn't that good.  But it turned a nearly impossible battle into something perfectly possible.  I tell you:  Minecart roller coasters have a way of messing with certain AIs, even generally tougher ones.
