Our trash only comes once a week. We have those big, round green dumpsters. Every time the garbage truck lifts it into the air, I run outside and scream, "Finally, a weapon to surpass Metal Gear"!

Wait, what's this thread about?

Guys, we expect a certain standard of quality out of the posts here. We've been trying to be tolerant in the hopes that things would turn around here, but posts that are like text messages aren't something we're okay with. Your posts should be few and substantial. There's no need to react with the equivalent of an "lol" or an emote in a forum thread, nor to respond to every single post. This is meant to be a discussion, and if you don't have anything substantial to add, it's best if you don't post at all.

As for the subject at hand ... I have trouble understanding why this is even a thing. Why does this person matter at all? Why is everyone so focused on her? I just don't get why she's in the spotlight. Isn't she just a bratty teenager with respect issues and a car-stealing compulsion? There's unfortunately more kids out there like that than most people would like to admit. What makes her so special, that she's apparently gotten under so many peoples' skin? It just sounds like something not even worth giving attention to at all.

As stated earlier, it's more schadenfreude than anything.

From what I know about her, it's her mom that's terrible.  Dr. Phil had her on his show a second time, and she cleaned herself up a bit.  The mom was insane though, and hadn't changed at all.

I don't really care either way about this family, but clickbait is a powerful drug.

Why do you all use the german word "schadenfreude"?

I suppose it must come across as a little weird to a German speaker. Are you from Germany, or just never heard the word before? English tends to borrow all kinds of phrases from other languages. This is true of any language, really, but from what I understand English does this a lot more than most. Except for maybe Japanese ... The amount of English words and phrases they've imported is kind of scary. We don't really have an English word as handy as schadenfreude to describe the concept, so we steal from German!

Because schadenfreude is an amazing word that perfectly describes a feeling that English doesn't have a good word for. Actually, that's true of a lot of German words, but schadenfreude in particular is a feeling that a lot of people have. :P

Didn't know that. German has also a lot of anglicisms, mostly words where it makes more sense to just take over foreign words instead of creating new ones, though there are also rather bad tendencys, mixing up english and german called "Denglisch". Since the majority of germans is rather bad at english (far worse than me), school teaching of english sucks but the use of english is seen as cool there are many people that mix english words into german in a way that is neither in german nor in english grammatically correct, including the creation of nonsense words that try to fullfil german grammar. To make things even more complicated, there are a bunch of people that create either hilarious and unpractical new german words to protect "our language" and few annoying woman that misunderstand emancipation in a way that includes not allowing words with a clear gender (and the majority of german words has a gender)...

Since we're on the topic of Germany, why don't you guys use Fahrenheit to measure temperature?  Isn't that a germanic word?  Why do only Americans use that to measure temperature?

(In advance, I'm terribly sorry for ruining a pleasant discussion about languages. It seemed rather nice.)

I wasn't really going to write a post and I will admit I kept writing one but scrapping it halfway because I couldn't word it perfectly, but I probably should just say it and get it over and done with. This discussion kind of disturbs me because here we have a person who was magnified by a show and the internet, and what do you know, she's a dumb rebellious teenager (as others already mentioned in this thread) who said something that the internet found funny and made a meme out of.

I will admit I didn't look into this because frankly this is too silly to get emotionally invested in. In fact, looking her up and giving her your time of day is only doing the opposite of wanting her to fall out of her celebrity status. The internet and to an extent us are giving her the power we don't want her to have by talking about her and looking her up to see what the fuss is all about. The hacking stunt just proved she can manipulate the internet for attention quite easily because people are just too into seeing her suffer because again, she was a dumb rebellious teenager with no respect on TV for the world to see. We gave her this power, we still are. I am too by writing a post about her. I just don't think a thread full of insults is really going to knock her down, not making a thread insulting her will knock her down. It's about the attention and spreading the word. I'm not saying this thread is going to do it as this is minuscule in comparison to what the rest of the internet is probably doing but I'm just saying mentality-wise, this thread is doing the opposite of what we want out of all this: to make her irrelevant. Spreading her name and talking about her only makes her relevant.

That said, shame on the people who decided to do this publicity stunt, there's no excuse for it. If you want genuine fame, you should try working for it and who knows, it might last longer and you might end up getting actual respect. But to me, this is just a result of exploiting a clueless teenager who got big by chance. It's not entirely her fault she's been clouded with visions of fame and celebrity status but that's just my two cents.

On the subject of languages, why do we have to make such convoluted differences with the English language in general? A classic example is colour vs. color, I don't quite understand. :( I also should really study a language or something, I have no clue how German works unfortunately.

Ohh no, Polaris has completely fallen for her. Just why are young boys always soo enchanted by joung maidens in need.

If you really want to learn another language you should start with latin. Since it is a dead language you can learn it well without speaking practice, in your case I think you will really like to be able to use latin and it is a great base for learning many european languages.

Instead of breaking your head about such petty topics like this you should try to write something more professional. You have the talent for it.

And I shortly looked up Fahrenheit. I am really happy we don't use it, what a mess. And there I thought Celsius is a pain and why we can't just use Kelvin in Germany.

Literally the only thing I've seen people care about from her is finding the phrase "cash me ousside how bow dat" amusing.  Like, that's basically it and I feel like nobody actually takes the situation as seriously as some of y'all.  Honestly, some of the responses and the obsessive hatred I've seen in this thread are far more embarrassing than seeing what she did.  They're just finding some amusement in a brief clip of a shitty show and most people probably didn't even watch the clip.  And are we really acting shocked that a teenager did something stupid?  Teenagers are hardwired to be idiots.  I mean, so are children, adults, and the elderly, but you know.

Quite the contrary actually. ;)

Truth be told, I'm neutral on the subject as I don't really care. It's just some meme to me I don't find amusing personally. Just wanted to point out that being invested in this is exactly what they wanted out of this whole publicity stunt. This is how she's keeping her fame, through the people wanting to see her hacked and send her hate comments. It's not the best way to gain attention but it's still giving her relevance which people are so desperately trying to take away but aren't cause they're talking about her and spreading the word causing more people to be invested in this. :P

Also as for the meme, again, I don't find it funny. Maybe I'm growing out most memes. Anything becomes a meme it seems. Maybe this post will if it got enough attention lol.

Aaand... you obviously still can't get her out of your head, going on and on about it ;)

Can give me someone an explanation for "meme"? I thought they were just dumb faces like the potato-smiley, but after reading this thread it seems there is more to it. I mean for once I am happy to live behind the moon and barely now anything of the things todays youth is interested in in regards of the internet, so I absolutly don't want to look it up myself, it seems horrible things lurk on the other side.

Actually, once I leave this thread she's out of my mind. I have real problems to worry about.

As for memes, they're pretty much anything nowadays. Those were the old memes but now memes are... well, we're talking about one right now, really.
