Does the quest have to be harder than quest 4?

From the rules, as far as I can tell, it doesn't have to be harder than fourth quest.  But it can't be monotonously easy, either.  I'd say that something tougher than first quest would make a good minimum to shoot for.

I am going to enter the 5th quest contest.  But I have a feeling that even though I am staying in the rules you guys will disqualify me for too much puzzles. >_<

Haha, that's awesome.  Even if the rules discourage too much deviance from the original NES quests, I'd still say that a few, say, push-block puzzles wouldn't be pushing it to the point of disqualification unless you really shift things around which, if you're aiming to follow the rules, shouldn't be that much of a problem.

Plus, I'll take a good puzzle over thousands of darknuts in a kill room any day of the week.

I'm shooting for harder than the second quest but easy enough to playest my own game.

So far I have failed in beating level 1 in quest 3 though I really haven't tried that hard.

Are there any rules with custom tiles or screen specific midis?

Custom tiles, as long as they maintain the spirit of the Classic style (four colors, no clear outlines, etc.), are tentatively okay.  Judges will decide whether or not your tiles are 'classic' enough on an individual basis, and if a majority of the people who play your submission feel the tiles don't fit you will need to adjust them.

Screen specific midis are not explicitly against the rules but probably are not okay.  That doesn't mean you shouldn't try though.

Remember, if you encounter a disqualifying rule violation you may adjust your quest to correct the issue and then resubmit it (provided you do so in a timely manner during the judging).

Due to popular support and mild confusion the final deadline is back to Nov. 5th! :) Note* This is not to be confused with the sound of a fish out of water. *flip-flop, flip-flop*

Stocks in quality control should go up 3 points so get out your checkbooks.

Also, new rule: The first person to make a ridiculously large moldorm with over 2048 HP that always returns after death wins! :P Good Luck!

Hey do we actually have to submit something to win, or can I just bake you all cookies and we call it done?

I know the Moldorm thing is a joke but can we make custom enimies and bosses without scripts (like stronger Aquamentus or Moldorms) using the enemy editor?

I'm pretty sure that you can as it is implied by Gleeok, "However, blatant overuse (or otherwise obvious misuse) of the Enemy Editor will likely result in rejection. The goal is to extend the first four quests, not create something completely new. Adding in unedited Death Knights and Octoroks on Crack is probably not a good idea."

Gleeok, I have three additional questions:

1. Are Mirror Wizzrobes OK? (with greatly decreased health and attack of course)

2. Are Summoners that summon Teleporting Wizzrobes OK?

3. Can we put enemies on cave screens?

1, 2) Sure.
3) No.

Just to reiterate a few concepts though: You can pretty much do almost anything within the confines of the rules, however NES consistency is a large part of your overall score. Making the best custom quest does not mean that you've made the best 5th quest.

Yep.

Quick question, are we allowed to change the heart requirements for the White and Magical Swords?

Good question. I honestly don't know!

The existing items need to be present since it is expected that the quest contain what is advertised in the item list. Variants are also OK. I suppose changing a built-in NES item's attributes may or may not be allowed depending on what it being altered. Heart requirements sounds fine to me though. So...yeah, that works.

Can participants change the end game string?

Thanks Gleeok, but considering NES consistency thing really does seem like a bitg deal, I might want to change a few things I've done.

By the way, if somebody really does do that Moldorm thing, they don't win, right? I personally want to at least try it, but I don't want to unfairly win if I somehow succeeded. This seems like a stupid question to me, but I would feel better about it if I got an answer.

Sorry, that one is off-limits.

Heh.. that was a sort of inside joke which was either strange or hilarious depending on whether or not you got it. Please do not make a Moldorm with over 2048 HP. One is enough! :P
