IDK about you but if you're going to have a "joke quest" category you should rename it to "comedy quest" since PureZC generally thinks joke quests are bad and effortless. ![]()

One way you could disguise this is by forming a sort of "Brains over Brawn" award or "Best Mental Workout" or a "Head-Scratcher" award. I think it's a category worthy of inclusion, though. We ought to evaluate potential categories independently of the nature of the quests that were submitted.Rather than having people pick their 1st, 2nd, and 3rd choices, I think I'm just going to have one poll where you can vote for multiple options, and tell people to vote for their favorite two. Then, I'll use the results from that to award 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place. I definitely like all the poll ideas you suggested, although The Avataro Award Favorite Puzzles might be kinda unfairly learning towards Avataro's entry, so... I dunno, I'll figure something out.

Hm, I think it's time for the polls already. Seems like most people played all the quests by now ![]()

I think having different awards by categories would be a great idea for a contest with a lot of entries. Here, however, I think it's more fair to not have categories because it gives an unfair advantage to certain quests.
For example, Avataro would be almost sure to win in the "best puzzles" category because his quest is the only one that is truly puzzle-based. And I like his quest a lot, and am always looking forward to his new quests, so don't get me wrong about that, I'm just using that as an example since it's already been mentioned. It would be a bit like having a ceremony for the Oscars with a "best Asian film" award, when only one Asian film has been submitted. We could also have a "best nostalgia game" award that Dcsyxx would surely win (again, I love that quest), or a "toughest challenge" award that Gleeok would win, etc.
For the amount of entries that we have here, which is great given the context but limited when you consider it objectively, I think awards by categories would be clunky rather than interesting.

Sorry, I meant to have those up on Tuesday, but then I got sick and I've been in bed for most of the last few days with a fever. Still kinda sick today, but getting over it. Hopefully I'll have the polls up tonight. Sorry for the delay.

Alright, it's no problem. Get well soon! What Jamian said about the categories is true. I have a good idea for next year though. Maybe the categories should be decided BEFORE the contest actually started. That way everyone knows what will be coming and has the same chances for each award. I don't know..

Eh, the problem there is that people would try to make a quest specifically to win a certain category, which I don't think is the kind of behavior we should be encouraging.

How long are you keeping them up? Hopefully long enough for me to finish all of the quests soon. I've finished Tales of Chirstoph after a couple of days. Anthus's quest looks short, and I think I can finish Avataro's quickly, but then there's still some more that are long and since school is starting for me on August 14 and I have to prepare things for it, it might take some time for me to finish all of the quests. But I'll go as fast as I can! ![]()

I'd say a week or 2 of voting should do the trick. Even if you can't finish all the games in that amount of time, you should at least be able to get a good idea of how each of the games play.

Yes, I agree. I should be able to finish all of the quests within a week of today, hopefully. But ya, I've already seen what others said about the quests so even if I don't finish all of them I'll have an idea of which to vote for in the categories.

Please don't put the poll in categories.
Because that would be totally unfair to quests that weren't supposed to be special but rather simple and plain. Like my quest. I say just make a poll on your overall favorites. That would work a lot better. And it'll be a lot more fair.
You see. If you make a best puzzles category. It won't be a surprise who the winner will be. Because a boy and his cursor is the only quest that's actually in the puzzles category.
Making a best comedy quest wouldn't work either. Because The Russian quest is the only one that's supposed to be funny.
Making a "best scripted" quest would be SO unfair to the quest makers who doesn't know a lot about scripts.
I say. Just make one category. "Which is the most fun overall." Since all quests in here are trying to make us have fun.

I wouldn't mind different categories, as long as they're somewhat oblique. Instead of things like best puzzle and best action, you'd have things like best presentation, most memorable, most deserving of expansion to a full-length quest or a sequel, etc.
Of course, you'd still have the overall main 'best entry' - I just think having a bunch of little awards scattered around would be fun, too.

I think there has to be category's to some extant (Like First best quest overall, Second best quest overall, Etc...). Though that is just my opinion. And also what grayswandir said.

I like this idea because it doesn't have categories that present a clear winner in any category. It's still a matter of pure opinion, whereas voting on favorite game types, etc narrow the possible winners significantly(sometimes down to only 1 obvious choice, such as best puzzle quest). Those categories would work better for either a larger pool of entries, which isn't likely due to the size of the community, or year-long superlatives. Things like best music, best graphics, best quest idea, most ambitious, or anything that doesn't lend itself to an obvious winner would be nice to have.
