Short answer: no.

So true.

I'm in agreement with Noel. This whole thread is a little. creepy? The responses almost make me scared at what type of people there are in this world.

Clearly you haven't seen some of the sick psychopaths in this world. I wish death only on those who would bring harm to the innocent.

I'd never be able to. It's just not something in me. I can't even intentionally hurt another person, let alone (nearly) kill them.

I have, man. It's just, I find that people on the internet can be a little bit more in-to-detail on things then people IRL would be. It scares me a little bit, because it makes me think more about what people are seriously thinking on the inside.

I disagree there. Death as a punishment makes no sense. I'd only consider it as an option if there was no other realistic way to keep people safe (in practically all cases prison is adequate).

I never said anything about as a punishment. You're talking to someone who has little to no faith in the justice system. Whenever I see a murderer, or just a psychopath in general, I think to myself how much better things would turn out if some pissed-off renegade would kill them before the government could put them in prison.

Dude please, that was horrible! I almost threw up, and I almost burst into tears. I hate what people can get away with with farm animals. There is a video of a farm ripping living chickens wings off, throwing them at the wall, and stopping on them.
It's just terrible.

Those people are heartless, and sick. I rather have them locked up forever then killed though because it's making them live the rest of there horrible lives.

I don't mean to offend anyone, but I wanted to post that from the very start of this whole debate when I saw the first "No I won't, I don't have it in my heart" post.
It's, well, wrong. And I don't mean that on a personal level, I can only emphasize what I said once or twice before: every human being with a working brain is capable of murder, circumstances given. I mean, I can see how everyone would think he (or she) wouldn't, but there's empiristic research prooving the opposite (again, Stanford Prison Experiment and Milgram-Experiment as examples). I don't consider myself a cruel or hateful person either. But being homo sapiens I can't deny that I might act like homo sapiens might act. What's the deal with admitting that?
I dunno why, but I really would like people to understand this. Hm.

But doesn't that also make it hypocritical to kill someone because that person is capable of murder?

(I know I just made this conversation more convoluted than necessary AND defeated my own point, but the thought occurred to me...)

I could kill somebody if I really needed to.

I'd regret it for a while, but I could.

Yes of course, I agree wholeheartly. And I never said killing murderers was a good idea. In fact, I despise any sort of unnessacary violence and the act of killing especially (which also makes me an enemy of any kind of war, by the way). It's probably the nastiest thing our species is capable of.
But who cares how we feel about it? That you dislike something does not make it any less real. icon_shrug.gif
What am I'm supposed to answer on the question? I guess it burns down to the fact that, yes, I can act in manners I disapprove of. And I can act in manners that I'm not proud of. So what? I don't claim to be perfect and I try my best not to act against my own principles, but I know that I can fail.

I'm sure I have the capacity to kill people, mentally speaking! I just don't want to unless the circumstances are absolutely extreme. Like, immediate self-defense or defense of a loved one. Otherwise, it would completely go against any moral code I have. I think that's what most people mean. Right?

Many would disagree with the part in bold. A swift death is said to be painless. True evil is in pre-mortem torture. To bring someone excruciating and senseless pain, and let them live through it for a while, that is the true evil in the world. Death is unfair, but pain is bitter.

Yeah, let them disagree. Doesn't change a thing about my opinion though. By my book no human has the right to end the life of another human. And that's why no one should. Period.
You can do horrible things to a person. But killing the person is worse. Because you end a life. A bitter life is a life at least.
