Is the poll supposed to be fixed now? It doesn't look right. I think Sharon Daniel is short about 50 votes or so...
No. Someone told me that I had 2 votes originally and that was the only real change besides the silly things that were easily recognizable. Stupid forum software!
Anyway, let's get back on topic, people.

I didn't know LTM was even in this week's entries... how he suddenly got -599 votes is beyond me.
I'll have to look into that.
Well, that's better than some people who didn't even enter!
Anyway, thanks to those two people who voted for me.
Edit: I can't read!

If it wasn't obvious by the time page 3 rolled around, this was an April Fools joke. So for those that actually thought this was a real SotW, April Fools!
The idea for this joke (along with the first "submission") came from Radien. I liked the idea, so I pushed for it. Other staff also contributed screenshots (though Relic was fashionably late). I particularly liked this joke compared to some of the jokes we performed in the past. Granted some would consider this "watered down" or something like that, I think it's a nice change from the chaos that usually ensues during this day of the year. It wasn't that difficult to figure out it was a joke (or I don't think it was). I'll be honest... April Fools for the last two years gave me a headache at this site due to how insane and out of control things became. I particularly stressed that this year would be different several times... and thankfully it has been different (from what I've noticed, anyway).
Unfortunately, we were unable to contact Hero Link soon enough to get him in on the action (the plan started last week). As such, that's why SotW 157 was never closed and a winner hasn't been declared yet: it's actually still running. For those wondering about the real SotW 158, that will appear whenever Hero Link gets around to posting it (which... I dunno when that will be). Hopefully it will be this week. Sorry for the confusion relating to that.
On a final note, while this thread has been revealed as a fake, that isn't the entire story. I'll leave you on that note since it would be more appropriate for someone else to reveal (though it's not that difficult to figure out if you look).
Edit: BTW... I suck at subtle hints. Just thought I should let everyone know that. Also... someone is going to kill me for saying that stuff before the previous line break.

I have, however, actually ripped the same image into ZQuest only in greyscale. This is a real screenshot:

I'm using version 1.92 beta 184, which is why there was no mention of 256 color mode.

Also to note that the map is just a resized copy from Sue's Workshop, to just take up space. Whole thing took me about 40 minutes to do.
Remember the time WB resigned the forum to Tei, and at the same time Tei made General Malcontent and everyone was so "I DON'T WANT A FORUM WHERE YOU CAN FLAME" and "THE END IS NIGH" and "I'M NOT DEAD"? Man, those were

If you check the "demo" I posted, you'll see that my shot is an actual screenshot. It's nothing more than a background image, but it's still legit. I was tempted to enter a real SOTW contest as a joke, but I and the others decided that would be unfair to the non-joking entrants (and besides, SOTW is usually posted on Monday, which would be April 2nd).
P.S. -
I think a lot of you missed out from seeing Taku of Miso's (Dethl's?) mock screenshot before he came up with the real one.
Give me twenty minutes, and I'll have a more real shot.
I dunno... I thought it was pretty awesome as-is!

I started out with this. It's a shot from Kirby SuperStar (Milkyway Wishes game). That's pretty self explanatory.

I pasted the shot over a shot from my quest in GraphicsGale. This was the result. I originally wasn't going to concern myself with the palette, but I realized that it might be interesting to try fitting the shot into the DoR palettes. This is essentially why the colors look so ugly.

And finally, I stretched the bottom image (too lazy to do some cut and paste work from additional screenshots) and added the HUD from the original shot. While the design is pretty outlandish, I did at least attempt to make it seem more realistic for a custom subscreen by flipping the health meter and replacing the power display with a generic sword item (from Radien's BS Zelda tileset). Besides the font, this subscreen may very well be possible... but I've not messed with that feature.
As far as the action... this is quite obviously not possible in ZC unless someone used tons of code. At this point, it might be better to make your own game engine if you have to use that much code.
So yeah... there is how I made my submission.
