It seems like they are is some kind of stasis similar to what Link was in but that keeps them conscious and waiting for Link in some kind of sealed altar. I kept wondering, did the whole Sheikah civilization sacrifice themselves just to aid Link in the distant future?
Something like that wouldn't surprise me too much. Throughout the series, we've been given these nods, and hints that something terrible, and dark happened to the Sheikah at some point. OoT's Shadow Temple says stuff like "Here lies Hyrule's bloody history of lies and greed", and the Shadow Temple is associated with the Sheikah.
We also know the Sheikah were very close to the Hylia, and as it turns out quite technologically advanced. What's with all these 'ancient' civilizations having vastly superior technology anyway? That seems like it happens a lot in games.
As far as the open-endedness of the game, I like it a lot. I wasn't sure how they'd find a way to make it worth while to trough the world at first. The survival, and crafting mechanics are a good way to make it feel important to explore, and also to take advantage of your environment. The attention to 'vertical' sections is neat too. Being able to freely climb is really an awesome concept. I'm not so upset about the stamina bar here cause you have freedom to go anywhere so there must be some sort of challenge or limit, unlike SS when you could only ever really climb to one area so it was pointless there. This game almost seems like what they really could have wanted to do with WW/ TP/ OoT, or any game really, but couldn't at the time.
The shrines look interesting and remind me of the Tower of the Gods. They also seem to pay slight homage to Z1's dungeons with their geometrically simple design, and large, flat tiles. I feel like even some of the color schemes are similar to Z1's dungeons. I still would like to see a "real dungeon" in this game though, but these do look quite cool, and remind me of the treasure chest grottos in ALBW.
Lot of good stuff here, and it is still kind of sinking in. Plus, I had a really long day, and watched all 4 hours of that stream. Good stuff here, color me (even more) hyped. I haven't been this excited for a Zelda game since TWW/ TP.
And Zelda was light years ahead of its time. IT really was the first truly open world game, besides Adventure so I'm glad to see a Zelda twist on the 'western style open world game' which conversely might not even exist without Zelda in the first place. (Ok, ok, I'll admit, it's a little pretentious to imply that no one else would have ever thought of a game like that had Zelda not been created
)
