Beat the Tower of Hera, that was quite a linear dungeon. And that Moldorm was much much easier to beat. I didn't get knocked off.

Moldorm? More like Nerfdorm.

The bosses aren't all that difficult so far. Fun, but not difficult. Well, Eastern Palace's boss was fun. Thieves' Town's boss was fun too. I like their designs, they just, so far, aren't that challenging. As for Tower of Hera itself... I can't really decide whether it wasn't all that fun on its own merits or because I was already familiar with it thanks to demo footage. I want to believe the latter, but I dunno. To be fair, the original Tower of Hera was very linear too. Ah well, the other dungeons were still good so far.

I'm trying to talk my friend into letting me borrow his 3ds a little longer. He wants it back. If he says yes, I'm so buying this game. (Yes, I do buy games for systems I don't own... Lol)

I got the 3DS bundle with the game today, and I'm just before the Tower of Hera.  So far, I'm really enjoying it.  It seems like it'll be a bit challenging, but no where near frustrating.  I think it'll be a pretty good difficulty for a Zelda game.

Honestly, the main thing I don't care for is the fact that it's based on ALttP.  Not that I dislike ALttP or anything, but the game uses it as a crutch a bunch.  It also makes exploration a bit... well... useless.  It's nice that they made the game really open, but what's the use when there's really no need to go exploring?  The overworld is really, really similar.  And not just in layout.  Just about everything is in the same spot as it was before.  There's just not a whole of "Oh, that's neat that there's this secret was tucked away over here." simply because if you're familiar with ALttP, you'll know that it's already there.  Even a lot of the enemy placement is the same.  I realize it's only like a hundred years after, but I feel like they could have done a bit more to change up the overworld.

Still really enjoying it so far, though.

So yeah I got it earlier. (due to the fact I learned that a giftcard I had was going to start taking money off it starting in December If I didn't use it up. It apparently doesn't care I used it in August and it's supposed to do that after a year of inactivity.)

Just finished Tower of Hera. Rented everything from the shop and still have about 3000 rupees without grinding too much. Dungeons have been okay, first one was better than Hera though. Hera was so short. Bosses have been pathetic as well as Enemies so far. I hope it starts to get a little difficult later on, because it hasn't done anything challenging yet.

Man you were lucky I died like two times fighting Moldorm... Man I must be getting rusty at these games.

See, I was worried about the same thing, but, at least from my perspective, it hasn't seemed to be the case. Bits of the overworld are different or rearranged or changed entirely, and even if most of the secrets are in the same place, it's a surprise to us veterans when we find something completely different in there. I mean don't get me wrong, I'd have loved to have a full new overworld to go along with this new gameplay experience, but I think they did pretty well with the old overworld we know and love.

Anyway, I played a whole lot today, and a good chunk of it wasn't even spent in dungeons. I played five dungeons, originally intending to do A Link to the Past's order but ended up doing Thieves' Town then Palace of Darkness, both of which were really great. Had some fun bosses too, if not simple ones. But the most fun I had was scouring the two overworlds, looking for new secrets, the new minidungeons, and collecting Maiamais. And man, I had a lot of fun rediscovering the worlds. I'm so far very impressed with the game, both with its new dungeons and its emphasis on exploration, the core of Zelda. The item rental shop doesn't seem like it decreases the experience either to be honest; after a while I sorta just forgot about it. The wall merge mechanic is really fun and has some clever uses. All in all, really loving the game.

I was also watching FlareRDB stream a bit of it blind (though if he gets to stuff I'm not at yet I'm closing it), and uh, noticed something peculiar about Thieves' Town that is admittedly a bad move on Nintendo's part...

Spoilers for dungeon details and boss of Thieves' Town

Beat my first Lorule dungeon, played for around 6 hours straight. I didn't know what to pick I'm that used to Zelda games being linear. This game is so far amazing. It's well paced, open, challenging from time to time and fun. The world and dungeons are well designed and far from being considered "rehashes". The story is really leading to something interesting too it seems.

Also digging the OST. Especially Yuga's Battle Theme, because I didn't see that coming. It sounds like something from Final Fantasy. :P

But yeah, the open exploration is something that needs to stay.

Well, don't get me wrong.  It's a minor complaint, and I still really enjoy the game.  I can just imagine how much more fun if we had been given this open world with entire new places to explore and find secrets in. :(

I've played a little bit of three of the Lorule Dungeons, but have made the most progress on the Dark Palace, which is done very well. It may not seem like it at first, but this game does have some pretty nice visual effects, I am playing Turtle Rock right now, and it is a pretty cool dungeon. It feels like a solid fire dungeon.

As far as the saving goes, I actually don't mind it too much. I thought it would bug me at first, but I really don't mind it. There are so many save spots, and you can quick travel to them at any time on the overworld to save quickly. The only time the lack of a menu save feature matters is in dungeons.

Well this is only a problem to those of us who were priviledged enough to experience LTTP when it was available.  To the newer generation who more than likely have not played it yet, it IS a new world for them.

@Shane:  Yes, games that claim to be about exploration absolutely NEED open worlds to compliment such a factor.  I'm glaring at you, Pokemon Gen 5.
