They're hidden under the overhang trees. I'd fire them, but it'd cause the whole forest to burn.

Seriously....what? First off, it's a Tektite. Second of all, Gameboy mountains had those stone edgings from the start. And trees? What the hell do you expect from Zelda Classic? Dude, stop criticizing everything. ESPECIALLY things I don't have much control over.
Alright, this is ridiculous. trudatman's criticism is legitimate, and as far as I can tell, the "mechanical jumping spider" comment was a joke based on the tektite's appearance. Honestly I can see it too. As for everything else he said, it's just his opinion, take it or leave it. Jared, your comment about the trees was also kind of shortsighted; there are tons of tree types in the FireBird tileset, so I'm pretty sure that is what he was expecting. I'm not saying you should agree and never use only the same type of tree on each screen, but again, it's just his opinion.
All I can say is, if you can't take criticism, don't post in a thread where people give criticism. ![]()

No, it is not ridiculous. I'm not one to get mad at comments like his, and it's not fair to me to just be slammed like that.
Also, I'm preeetty sure criticism isn't just putting down EVERYTHING about a certain object. Criticism is supposed to help someone improve aspects of a screen, etc. It's not supposed to basically be a slap in the face, basically saying "Your screen and tileset suck" and not offer any sort of help at all.

that's quite pretty. the colors are a bit weird, but I generally dig it.
Oh yeah, he sure did slam everything there. So yes, it's ridiculous. I seriously think you may need to take a step back for a moment and realize not everything trudatman does is out to get you and just relax. As I said, he's free to give criticism, and you're free to completely ignore it instead of let it get to you. ![]()

holy wow, Batman. again, it's a great screen. I like it. I like it enough to offer up my opinions on how it could be better. just put me on ignore if you are going to get bent out of shape by my fairly standard offers of CRITIQUES. in fact, if all you want is empty praise, this might not be the thread for you. you have this irrational bias against me, which is fine, but you are letting it get you worked up over nothing, which is not so good. take the proverbial chill pill and reread my post without hate and anger. I was trying to offer a way to make the screen better, which is THE PURPOSE OF THIS THREAD. the enemy clashes and the trees all look like clones, which is weird. it is still a great screen and it looks like a very playable area of a well designed game. do you get this mad about critiques from other members?
Shane, that dungeon is very different. it's quite a style you have. I wonder if it would get old fast or if a whole quest using those looks would work. you should be putting out a quest a month with all of these screens you show off. you and Jared together would make a killer team if y'all could actually get full quests done before tiring of them and moving on to the next project. the pits are a bit strange because they don't really have an appropriate vanishing point angle, but the whole Zelda genre suffers from that, so it's not too bad. kind of like how most quests use the same tree over and over... to me it's a flaw in the approach, but it's traditional, so it's not unexpected. anyway, good stuff lately, y'all. keep 'em coming!

Well, my main GB project is still in the works since last year, and my side project that uses Firebird is still among the living. The classic screen was kinda something I found laying in my ZC folder, I have zero idea where it originated from, probably from the ill fated swag.qst.
Me and Jared haven't really attempted a group project. We were planning on one, but it never happened. My GB project then came to life and we parted, making our own projects.

I really like the coloring on the trees and the water tiles. The palette is perfect for this kind of landscape. Good job!
